Thank yo for sharing this! I went to Walmart to purchase a spray adhesive sealant. Came home and ran across this video today and this is a game changer. I have put the vinyl sealer in my amazon cart to purchase.
The Vinyl Shield is awesome stuff! Be sure to offset it so it's larger than your decal and give it at least 24 hours before washing to achieve the best adhesion possible :-) Did you know we're live every Monday night 8pmEST on our youtube channel? Hello again, so I did the tumblers but I messed up the first one I did. I eyed balled it and the vinyl shield stuck to the vinyl and when I tried to remove it it left a residue on the vinyl. How can I remove it? I will start watching your live videos. Also I bought a light board too so now I think I will be good to go

Just found you on TIK TOK and now RU-vid. I don’t have any of these supplies but one day want to get one since I just started a small clothing business. I’m limited with iron one and tie dye but gotta start somewhere. So definitely following and subscribing for lessons for when one day I do get the different equipment for this stuff.

Likely not if the regular adhesive vinyl won't stick. There could be multiple reasons why: Is it a powder coated cup? Is the surface not clean and sterile? Is the vinyl 631 vs a 651 or our ColorSpark? The Vinyl Shield likes to apply to smooth clean surfaces, same with regular sign vinyl. We use Vinyl Shield as an extra protective layer, like, well... a shield. It keeps opals from scratching, and very delicate designs from lifting, etc. -TRW Crystal
No epoxy needed. The Vinyl Shield when applied in an offset will get stronger the longer it sits. Be sure to wait 24-48 hours before washing so it can get a really good bond first. Make sure the surface is sterile, dry, and of no texture (such as powder coating, etc). -TRW Crystal
We don't use clear vinyl. ColorSpark Vinyl Shield can protect your smooth adhesive vinyl creations from lifting, water and even the sun with the UV protectant we had built in. :) -TRW Pilar
Hi!What is the best vinyl and adhesive tape?I have problem,my vinyl doesnt want to stick to resin, what can I use to seal it?And vinyl lift after I pour resin top coat
It will. However, condensation happens on the outside of the bottle, not in between the vinyl and bottle. It's developed when cool meets warm in the atmosphere. If your regular vinyl is peeling from the sweat, then there may be a bad bond (as in powder coated or other forms of texture) which allows little cavities for water to invade and weaken your bond on the cut edge of your decal. Be sure to clean the surface and have it sterile first as well before applying and do not touch (finger oils are the enemy.) If you use our Vinyl Shield, then cut it in an offset larger than the decal you're protecting. You want it to fully encase what it's covering to form a "shield". The same rules apply for texture, Vinyl Shield likes a smooth clean surface. Leave it to sit a day or two, as the longer it sits the better it sticks, before washing and handling. If applied correctly, and to the correct surface, it will be top rack dishwasher safe. -TRW Crystal
I do have a question though. The vinyl shield material on the web page says it's 12"x12" but it shows a roll ? And what you used in this video is on a roll. Is it available in a roll for us?
I have a coated tumbler that I'm put a decal on with the vinyl shield and I've had it on tumbler for a few days and now the vinyl shield isn't sticking. How can I fix it?
Thanks so much! Trying out new things and sharing our tips/tricks is important to us. Do you come to our free Live trainings each week? Mondays here on RU-vid, 8pm EST. -TRW Pilar
We prefer a cure time of at least 24 hours. The longer it sits, the better it sticks, just like regular decal permanent vinyls. This is just much thicker, so it needs a bit of time to come into it's full grip strength. It won't work as well on powder coated or any kind of textured surfaces. -TRW Crystal
Try the Light Cardstock setting. We do always recommend you do test cuts on any new material, as the life of your blade and your own machine calibration can affect the cuts. Hi Matt just stumbled onto your vids , Can you advise me of where I can get Vinyl Shield in Australia ? Unfortunately buying it from the US is a bit expensive and the postage is way out of my budget thanks Julie
Hi there! Sorry about that :-( Unfortunately our products are based from our warehouse in Florida, we don't have any branches overseas at this time. :-( -TRW Crystal
It will. Vinyl Shield works best on smooth clean surfaces, glass will be great. The longer the shield sits, the better it sticks, and be sure to avoid wrinkling on the edges of your decals, warp your design before cutting to fit the curve of the glass. -TRW Crystal **We're live every Monday night, 8pmEST on our youtube channel showing how to work with various materials, and giveaways. Great video. Is the vinyl shield used with either permanent or removable vinyl? If used with removable vinyl, does it hold up as well and sort of make it more of a permanent application?
Hey there! It can be used to cover and protect a variety of surfaces and materials. It could definitely increase the lifespan of a removable vinyl. - TRW Haley
Wondering if this would be useful on plain everyday mugs... I always think you need sublimation mugs, but using the Vinyl Shield you should be able to use any kind of mug, right?
You can sometimes get 1-2 uses out of your tape on one project, but the official answer is that you shouldn't reuse your application tape. 😊 - TRW Haley
Good question! There's no need to add it to htv, but if you do, make sure the offset is a bit larger since it likely won't stick to the htv very well. Vinyl Shield likes a smooth surface, even powder coat makes it finicky. The longer it sits the better it sticks, so give it some time after applying to regular surfaces. As for permanent vinyl, yes, we often use it to protect delicate vinyl such as opals that scratch easily. -TRW Crystal
You mentioned making print cut stickers that can go through the dishwasher. I got the vinyl shield and it made it better but what brand of vinyl sticker paper do you use so they don't curl up on the ends or come off because the adhesive has softened?
We use our brand on site - ColorSpark. To use Vinyl Shield you'll need to offset it to fully encase the decal you're protecting. This will help with the edges as well. :-) -TRW Crystal
@@TheRhinestoneWorld OK, I got on your site and I'd like to get some but I want to make sure I'm getting the right thing. I see rolls of color spark vinyl But I'm not sure if this is printable. Do you have a link to a product I could print and cut?
Ah printable...ok, for layerable Adhesive Vinyl, we use our ColorSpark permanent adhesive vinyl. If you are doing print then cut, the only printable adhesive vinyl we carry is the Siser ColorPrint Easy, which we use with our Roland Versacamm. This printable vinyl is a professional vinyl which only works with ecosolvent printers. Hope this helps! -TRW Pilar
I did the light card stock settings for my cricut explorer and it cut through the backing. This made it so hard to remove from the mat. Is there a better setting to use when cutting the vinyl shield?
The guide chart on site recommended the light cardstock / 272. Might want to test cut with some other settings, not certain why yours cut all the way though :-( www.therhinestoneworld.com/colorspark-cut-settings -TRW Crystal
Hi there! We recommend 2 things: You can try using a rubbing alcohol mixture before applying your decal, which is 9/10 water and 1/10 rubbing alcohol. You can also try using a heat gun on the decal to get the bubbles out! -TRW Bri

How well would the Vinyl shield adhere to shimmer/glitter vinyl? I often struggle sealing shimmer/glitter vinyl. Will definitely invest in this product nonetheless 👌. Thank you for sharing, stay safe.
We have textured glitter as well as a smoother surfaced glitter on site. We prefer to apply over smooth surfaces, it just decreases the amount of air pocket space you see and helps with the grip of the shield. We have quite a lot of vinyl shield videos, if you'd like to search the keywords on our channel it'll take you down a fun rabbit hole lol! Side note, be sure to offset the shield larger than the thing you're out to protect. You want a smooth non textured tumbler as well. The longer this material sits, the better it sticks. Give it at least 24 hours before washing. We're here if you have questions along the way. -TRW Crystal **We're live every Monday night, 8pmEST on our youtube channel showing how to work with various materials, and giveaways. Certainly! Just be sure (as with any vinyl) that your size is suited for your shape. Example, a wine glass. If you're needing any kind of larger size you'll have to contour shape your decal first, such as in silhouette, there's a conical warp option. Just something to be aware of so you don't get that dreaded edge curling :-) -TRW Crystal
You can but it is more difficult to line up after the decal is on the tumbler. Matt had done a full cup with some of our adhesive vinyls and tested them out, washing the cup to see how they held up. A few months later, he added the Vinyl Shield over the top of the whole cup, since it was a full wrap around design. Parchment paper will be your friend trying to line things up. -TRW Pilar
No need to seal permanent vinyl as just a decal on a cup :-) But if you have a delicate design, or something scratch prone like opal, then yes, that's when we use vinyl shield. -TRW Crystal
Yes it should, and this video will show you a close up example for how it should look: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XpgabjPsVZE.html -TRW Erika
I used the ColorSpark vinyl shield on the Manna color changing cups (which is linked as an Amazon favorite on the TRW website). Followed all the steps, let the cups sit for 24+ hours and the vinyl & shield peeled after going through the dishwasher. Do I need to let it cure longer? The material seems similar to the Starbucks cups.
Hi there! There could be a few different factors that could be causing problems in application. Please call us at 941755-1696 so we can try to rule out what it could be! -TRW Bri
This was an interesting video and I like the idea of the vinyl shield but it also appears that the overlaid edges are not sticking to the tumbler almost like things could catch on it. Am I just seeing this wrong? I think I would cut them the size of the lettering when I try it.
We're glad you asked, we love questions! The vinyl shield is a material that gets stronger the longer it sits applied. You do need to give it at least 24-48 hours after applying before tossing it in to wash. You want the vinyl shield cut in a decent offset so it can perform correctly. It's the "shield" that is protecting what's under it, so by offsetting you don't get any vulnerable points with cutting it flush. Think of a layered cake. Where the vinyl is at the bottom and the shield is at the top. If you slice them then you have the exposed edges of both materials where water, etc can easily reach and separate them. Now if you put a cover over the cake with a dome cover or a lid, it's perfectly sealed and protected by that "shield". That's why you want the offset. :-) We're here if you have any other questions! - We go live every Monday 8pmEST on our RU-vid channel! This week we'll be making rhinestone shirts! Thank you for the reply. I watched the video again and this time took a snapshot of the finished tumbler so I could enlarge the picture to see that the edges of the ‘shield’ are sealed down to the tumbler. I’m looking forward to trying it out. Thanks again for sharing. I did subscribe too. :-)
Hi Matt, just discovered your channel here in The Netherlands. Question: how thick (in micron) is most of the vinyl you use for your projects? Looks like it is much thinner than the ones here (70-100 micron). Do you also ship to The Netherlands? Great to watch all these video's, learned a lot in just a short while. Keep up the good work!
So happy to have you here! Siser EasyWeed HTV is 110 microns, this is the HTV we mainly use for projects on our channel! We do ship to the Netherlands just not chemicals or cutters! -TRW Maegan
do you have a video showing how to apply vinyl shield onto a wrapped tumbler? Is there special way to apply the mask? Do you cut it and apply it to the wrap prior to application to the tumbler?
I'm sorry, I just saw this comment! Sometimes they get buried fast. Yes, assuming the surface is clean, do not touch the shield (use transfer tape), and be sure to account for the curve of the glass. You may need to warp your design so there's no edges that crinkle on the taper. -TRW Crystal

Do you mean does the Vinyl Shield have uv protection? Very minimal, but adhesive vinyl will generally take a long time to fade anyway. Vinyl Shield is to protect delicate designs, and opals from scratching. -TRW Crystal
Not certain what photo top is, sorry about that! Vinyl Shield, you cut as an offset, apply, give it a few days to really adhere, then it protects your opal vinyls from scratches, your printable vinyl (for tumblers) and is top rack dishwasher safe! -TRW Crystal
It sure would. Be sure to offset the sticker so the Vinyl Shield fully encases it with some overlap. You want a really good seal over the edges to what it's protecting. -TRW Crystal ******Did you know? We're live EVERY Monday night at 8pmEST on our RU-vid channel! @@TheRhinestoneWorld hi one more question..This can be cut in cricut right? If yes what settings? Sorry for so many questions but i wanted to know before buying as i use cricut for my projects
Sorry for the delay in reply! Vinyl shield should be overcut (larger) for sure. You want it to fully encase the vinyl it's protecting, even the edges. I personally like to be roughly about a quarter inch larger than my design. -TRW Crystal ******Did you know? >We're LIVE -- EVERY Monday night at 8pmEST on our RU-vid channel! >>We TEACH how to use our products, have some pretty awesome GIVEAWAYS (Even Cameos!), and if you hit subscribe (FREE!), it will open up the chat option during the live. >>>You can hang out, ask QUESTIONS and have FUN as we go! >>>>We also offer tiers of paid MONTHLY subscriptions that have a variety of PERKS, sneak PEEKS, extra TRAINING, free DESIGNS, first DIBBS on new products, extra COUPONS, and FONTS all depending on the tier level selected!
Hi! I just purchased your vinyl shield and I was wondering if it worked on wine cups as well? I tried some last night on a stemless wine cup and this morning I checked it and it peeled right off. So I was wondering if maybe I did something wrong or maybe it just doesn’t stick?
What happens to the vinyl sheet if I heat press it? I’m thinking about my process and would love to heat press the whole decal in one step to the material and the initial material needs to be heat pressed.
This is for adhesive vinyl, not htv. We have other material to turn htv into a decal: ColorSpark HTV Anything. With HTV Anything, you can press htv to it and break some of the typical pressing rules--you can layer glitter htv on glitter and even layer hotfix rhinestones on top of the htv! The HTV Anything is the bottom layer, it's clear and has a strong adhesive backing. This is what we use to make our full glitter and rhinestone tumblers. :) -TRW Pilar
I just got my first order of the vinyl shield and I LOVE IT! And it makes applying the vinyl so much easier too. I do wonder if you have any suggestions on what to do about the gaps in the letters, like the roundish spot in an R. When you push the shield down in that small spot, it doesn’t completely stay adhered. Still love it though. Will be buying more soon!
This is our ColorSpark Vinyl Shield and is exclusive to TRW. You can get it on our website, TheRhinestoneWorld.com. Great timing, since our Black Friday sale is currently going on and it's discounted! Let us know if you have any questions. -TRW Pilar
Think of Vinyl Shield like an actual shield. You want it cut in an offset to fully encase what it's protecting. If the edges are flush then you've only layered vinyl :-) -TRW Crystal
Why not cut registration marks, with the bottom layer, then laminate over the letters, then cut the laminate using the registration marks? Wouldn't it be easier than trying to overlay the weeded transparent laminate onto the bottom layer? Just curious

Can i use this over a sticker? I make snowglobe tumblers and those are on thick plastic tumblers so i cannot epoxy them and everything else i have tried still makes the image bleed eventually...or fade or smudge. Its a round customized image will cutting out a to size circleml over it protect it feom the smudging and wearing the color off? Peeling also eventually the sides started to peel up after a few hand washes 🥲
We use Vinyl Shield on many types of items, just like the helmet he demonstrated in the video. The ink on the decal looks as brand new as the day he applied it. With Vinyl Shield, you want to overcut to fully encase the decal you're protecting. The edges, everything, do not cut it flush, water etc will creep into the exposed edges. Next, the longer the shield sits after applied and the air bubbles are worked out, the stronger it sticks. It needs a touch of time, and heating gently with a hair dryer works as well to get that initial bond. Do not make decals larger than they can accommodate on a tapered, curved surface without warping to size as this encourages weak edges and bubbling on just about any vinyl. So size properly is needed. Lastly, as with any decal, wipe down your cup with rubbing alcohol or wash with blue dawn soap and dry really well. Then do not touch it, finger oils are the enemy. Oil will remove or weaken adhesive on any decal or sticker. So, yes, it will protect your ink if all used properly. Give it 2 days or so and let the adhesive strengthen before attempting to hand wash :-) We're here if you have more questions! -TRW Crystal

Does anyone know if you have to mirror the name/image (with htv vinyl and htv anything) when cutting if you're going to put final product on a tumbler?
@@TheRhinestoneWorld perfect! Thank you! Also, I haven’t heard you mention that in any videos so it would be helpful to others, I think! Thanks again. Love your tutorials!
We don't recommend having any vinyl touch where food will touch. If you're decorating the outside of the tray or dish, this would be great to protect the vinyl. -TRW Pilar
You might consider using HTV Anything instead of Vinyl Shield for a project like that! You do have to use HTV + heat rather than adhesive vinyl, but I think you would get better results that way! - TRW Haley
