I saved $900 doing it myself. You can too. Sealing a concrete, tile, or stone surface involves a 6 step process. Watch here and learn how.

Acetone will only spread whatever you’re trying to remove if you don’t wipe it up, you have to absorb the resolved contamination with cloth or something, if the acetone evaporates then you just moved the contamination.

That’s great info for a DIYer on a very tight budget. The professionals who do it for a living are worth their cost too. However, some folks time may be way more valuable than $800-$900 so they’d rather let the pros do it. Plus it helps our economy when we support the small business people in our communities.

Klean Strip Acetone thins and cleans fiberglass resins and should only be used as directed on the product label. Do not spread this product over surface areas greater than 1 sq. foot because fire and health safety risks will increase dramatically. This product is extremely flammable. Use this product only with adequate ventilation to prevent buildup of vapors. If the work area is not well ventilated, DO NOT use this product. Avoid breathing of vapors or mist and contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Personal protective equipment should be worn when using this product.

Should have used a acetone sealer. You could have diluted the seal with acetone that you bought an did two coats that would last for years. That white milky wax you got requires a lot of maintenance. The concrete acetone sealers are the best. You also could have used a 18 in wooster roller or actetone sprayer to apply it for $300 or less. I would have charged $650. I also would have used a leaf blower and opened the door to blow everything out then close it and do a quick mop. Would have taken about two hours to do the job.
@christianpapageorge8028

I'm under the impression that it is pretty dangerous to use that amount of acetone in a space without ventilation.

Cleaning the floor with acetone is HIGHLY DANGEROUS. This man is lucky to be alive and still have a house to live in. I was waiting for the BOOM and huge fireball and seeing the RU-vid video of the fire department putting out the fire and scrapping his butt off the sidewalk across the street..... Wonder how his liver test results were.

This has helped me no end - we're just about to move into a place and we've cleaned the floor - now we just need to apply the sealer! Have you been able to buff out any of the scratches, or possibly wax over them so it looks better? Great video :) Thanks!
@LetsTalkShop
@LetsTalkShop 9 лет назад
Instead of buffing out scratches or peeling I clean the area and apply another coat or two to those spots. Buffing might work but I haven't tried it. I DO like my shiny concrete floor but it does require touching up a couple times a year (we park in the garage so right where tires sit is where it peels). My neighbors painted their floor. He hasn't had to do anything for upkeep (aside from occasional mop).

The only way this coating will last is if you don't use the floor. What will kill this coating the fastest is wet/hot tires parking overnight, pulling off the coating once dry and driving off. Only takes one time. Grip additive - Shark Grip Use an acrylic sealer for easy recoat. I do this for a living and will NOT install this sealer for anything but foot traffic patios and sidewalks.

Hilarious, loved the simplicity and the dry humor. Question, after i sealed the floor, is it ok to paint it if thats something i wanted to do?
@LetsTalkShop
@LetsTalkShop 10 лет назад
I'm not sure about that Zaneta. I wouldn't paint over the sealer. It's been one year now and my floor has lots of scratches. The spots where car tires persistently rest is missing its sealer. Little by little, the sealer cracks and lifts. If I had to do it all over again, I would paint instead of seal. Or I might delve into a highly polished surface which is what I was after, but it hasn't lasted.

Correction..Acethone is not a degreaser and your floor will not be properly profile for a good quality sealey.The Behr sealer is a cheap non durable sealer that most likely will be gone in a few months and you will end up with bad floor. For a floor with high traffic as a garage you need a high solids good quality sealer. Waterbased are low solids sealer. Good thing you dont have a water heater in your garage that would blow the house up.

Just curious: when you 'lift' the dirt/grease with acetone, what are you using to remove it from the floor? The broom just pushes it around until the acetone evaporates. So all you've done is relocate the dirt/grease with the broom.
@LetsTalkShop
@LetsTalkShop 9 лет назад
specialk22tt The effort was made to start at the back wall and pull (or drag) dirt, dust, & debris toward the door. I did small sections so the acetone wouldn't dry before I could finish an area (otherwise floor dust would then be airborne - was hoping to keep it wet and manageable with the broom).
