I use spray fixative that is used to seal pastels. It works great! Just FYI for something else to try and see if you like it.

Thanks from me too!!! I learned the hard way about the Matt medium when trying to seal watercolors. It was my first encounter with Matt medium and I was having a grand ol time in my new mixed media life and art journaling until then! I immediately wrote not for water colors on the cap in a sharpie marker!

Very helpful! I love to see how other people seal their inks. So far I have had the best luck just taking a brayer and applying gel matte medium on my gel plate and then pressing the artwork into it. But I don't add any water to it first and I spread it out very thin. I know exactly what you mean about substances not getting down into watercolor paper. I started using Bristol smooth paper and have had a lot better luck. Also I tend to use both distress inks and Delusion spray inks on the same project.Thanks for making this video. Thank you for experimenting with the Dylusions to find a way to seal those babies! I will try the airbrush medium, as I feel that spraying the pages will be so much easier than using my Gelli plate. Hi Ceecee, i did a video some time back on using a matt medium as a sealant and although it sealed, it did leave a kind of rippled effect in the sealant itself. Thank you for your video, it was most helpful indeed, enlightening in fact. BTW, im going to send you a postcard! Lol. Hugs Tibby xxxx

FYI I have put down mat medium down on the gelli plate and then sprayed ink through the stencil onto the medium on the gelli plate.... remove stencil and pull print... gets nice effect, no bleed later

Thank you so much for this! I love my Dylusions, but haven't used them much because they are difficult to seal. I tried the artist sprays for sealing charcoal and I've tired hairspray. Neither was successful. Now I will use them more since I can layer them and use them as background in my art journal. Again, thank you!

Clever lady; I normally would have tried brushing on the medium which would cause the inks to bleed. Genius, lol

Thanks for this information. I like the air brush system. However, I only use Dylusions when I don't worry about them blending. it's what I like about them. I have used Matte medium spray with rubbing alcohol for sealing and Kryon fixative (very smelly).

Thanks for showing your experiments-- I love learning new things, because you never know when they are going to come in handy. For what it's worth, I heard that you can cover your paper with a coat of transparent gesso (gel medium might work as well) and while it's still damp, spray your Dylusions. After everything is dry, the spray should be sealed well enough to work with, without any bleeding.

I ran out of spray fixative once and used hairspray. It actually worked ok and later I saw someone do a video comparison against actual spray fixes and it did ok there too. I wish I could remember who it was, anyway, yeah, cheap ole' hairspray LOL

Interesting tests, especially with the airbrush medium. I am just discovering airbrush medium and this is something I will definitely try. Good to see that after several hours you could still spray with it. I was reading on one airbrush paint site where they recommend turning a can of airbrush spray upside down and spraying out the excess to keep the nozzle clean. That might help too. I did wonder if your pages that were more successful would react with water even though they did not react with the paint or modeling paste. That might be a good test too. I actually did a similar test in a video I posted a while back, only I used Mod Podge and I think glass bead gel and glossy medium. I found all of those did not seal, but my seal test was with a wet towel rubbed over the area, not by adding other medium such as paint over the seal. My observations were based on how much color came off on the towel. Then I tried spraying with a Krylon 1311 fixative before sealing and found that worked best even though I thought there was a little color still on the towel. I basically was just playing around while doing my backgrounds and really did not plan out any tests but here is the link if you want to take a looksie. What about brushing the soft gel on.

Would these methods (especially the airbrush medium) be good to also seal journal pages that have things such as pastels or certain markers or other stuff that would blend if you add wet mediums over it? Ive been told to use hairspray.

Ranger micro glaze applied with Tim Holtz mini blending tool seals inks and watercolors. But then it resists ink so I can not apply ink over it. I have applied paints and pastes tho without a problem. The product can only be removed with alcohol so designate a sponge for that product only. There is a RU-vid 2017 where Tim Holtz uses the micro glaze where u can watch him use the product. Good luck

But spraying a quick coat of airbrush medium....genius! Would love to know how your spray bottle is doing after a few days. Still no clogging?

One reason I use Dylusions not that often is that I can't work on it with a lot of other stuff. It's a shame because I like them a lot. Sometimes I use spray varnish to seal it but I have to go outside and the pages will smell even after a long time, I think they never stop smelling. I knew about the gelli plate but.....all this hassle, does it sound lazy? So the airbrush medium is my choice, I have it and I'll go straight up into my workspace and give it a try. Thank you so much.

I have used hair spray to seal the ink sprays, and it does help. I think I want to try putting mat medium over the hair spay to seal it better. What do you think? Blessings.

Did you dilued Air Brush Medium with half medium half water? Thank you for the tests . It was great info.

I wonder would it still work the same if you applied mod podge or gesso to the page before spraying with the Dylusions sprays?

jave you tried using krylon matte spray fixattive.

Dyan explains in her videos, that you need to allow the paint to dry for 24 hours before using a white pen on it, otherwise it will draw the colour through. no need to seal.

CeeCee: I haven't tried airbrush medium (looking forward to doing so). BUT, I have tried clear gesso applied with a rubber spatula. Have you tried that one? It works for me. But I'd rather spray something. LOL OOXXOO Linda
