How to seamlessly integrate Apple Reminders + Tick Tick

If you switch this setting on, you can easily add tasks to your Tick Tick inbox by saying, "Hey Siri, Remind me to X."
If you're like me, the benefit of adding tasks to your to-do list seamlessly with this phrase should be a nice little quality of life improvement! It was one of the things I really missed when I switched from Things 3 to Tick Tick.*
I definitely prefer it to the alternative default method of adding tasks to Tick Tick via Siri (without using Apple Reminders as an intermediary), where you have to use some specific catchphrase via Shortcuts. That default option never quite works since Siri will ignore or mishear the catchphrase 4/10 times.
But Siri is really good at understanding the core commands that feed into Apple apps themselves -- like the commands for adding tasks to Reminders.
So we can leverage that to make our Tick Tick task management experience better! Hope this helps you!
*I used Todoist in-between but never found a good solution for this problem in that app, only janky IFTTT solutions.

As someone who is thoroughly jealous of your inhuman time management skills, I'm really looking forward to seeing under the hood of how you make it all happen! This was a great how to episode, maybe a broad intro video to Tick Tick would be great and also would love to hear your philosophy on task management itself as well as approach etc!

Thanks man!! Doing a general TickTick configuration overview is definitely something I’m considering - the app has a ton of potential to help with different sticking points.

They have moved this feature to Reminders section. Under Siri is only the "add tasks via Siri"

This is such a great tip. I was looking into doing this using the Shortcuts app, but this is way more convenient. Thanks for this!

You’re very welcome! Thanks for watching! If you run into any other TickTick questions, let me know! It’s a great program with a lot of capabilities - as your probably already know - but I find it can lend itself to quite different workflows based on how you configure it.

I just used Siri by saying something like " add take out garbage to ticktick". Siri asked if I gave permission to access ticktick, and it was added to the inbox. Maybe it is an iOS 16 thing, but it worked really well. What I am wondering is why people use tick tick over reminders. I am not seeing the benefit. Help me out?

That's great! It's definitely possible that the precision of the voice recognition is getting some kind of boost in iOS 16! That said, the reason why I prefer using the workaround from this video is that my experience has been that whenever I need to tell siri something like add X to "TickTick" (or "Todoist" or "Things; whichever app) Siri doesn't properly recognize the last word in the sentence sometimes. This happens maybe 40% of the time in my experience, and that's enough to make it unusable. Could also be that Siri struggles with recognizing my voice. Either way, if direct capture into TickTick via Siri is working for you consistently then definitely just do that instead! But if you run into consistency issues with it, then doing the workaround from the video could be worth it. As for why Tick Tick over Reminders, it's a longer discussion (maybe an upcoming video!) but a few of the things I like better about Tick Tick are: - You can take tasks and plot them out onto a calendar view (while still having the ultimate unit be a task, even a task with subtasks) - Better quick capture for text (Todoist and Things 3 also have this feature) - More consistent smart recognition of dates, times, projects, and tags (although maybe there's some finesses of how to get better at this within Apple Reminders and I just don't know them yet). All that said -- capture into reminders directly works really smoothly, which is a huge plus for reminders. That's why I decided to try to just make use of that really good function from it. I do also keep my grocery list in reminders though, which I add to by saying "Hey Siri, add Y to the GROCERY LIST". Works well!

I personally use Reminders for reminders (laundry, check on something, etc.) and TickTick for GTD task management. I also like how if I delete something in TickTick there's a recycling bin where as Reminders (and Passwords surprisingly) doesn't have that in case you deleted something.

Doesn’t work when you auto-import reminders from a third calendar app, unfortunately :( The only thing you can do is to import manually through the “Reminders” button mentioned in the beginning of the video Works well when you add tasks straight to Reminders though Anyway, thanks a lot!!

Yeah, I'm not sure whether there is a way to also import reminders that are attached to a third-party calendar app (e.g., google tasks associated with a google calendar). This was moreso just about trying to figure out how to get apple reminders imported in. Would be cool if they added even more import features. They do seem to be actively adding new features every few months, so it could happen
