Just got my new humidor for Christmas. Like my instructions that came with the humidor, it also says that I shouldn't wet the inside of the box. But I'm going with the step by step instruction in your video. Thanks for posting.
Thanks so much for this. Mrs bought me one for Xmas and I followed this and now have my collection sitting in 69% (the ambient humidity is 35%). I had to wipe it out 5 times to get it ready but I'd have been lost as the instructions with it didn't cover this at all. rgs.
Hello thanbks for the question, Our Tropical Humidity solution comes pre-mixed you can just add it to your humidifier. I would only use distilled water to season the inside of the humidor. Hope this helps you out. All the best
At around the 4:35 mark you mention that this seasoning has to be done "3 to five times", but how often should it be done? Once per day for 3 to five days, or can the distilled water be re-applied as soon as the prior application has settled in, or somewhere in between? Thanks!
Good question! You can put them in the same humidor... this is where Spanish cedar dividers are good to have inside your humidor. As when cigars age the tobacco marries together creating a wonderful tasting cigar. If you have many different cigars all together touching they will indeed pick up the flavors and aromas from the other cigars beside them. Cedar dividers will allow you to store many different cigars in the same humidor together, but apart.
@datfunk101 Not sure what happened We only recommend that you use a PG solution on sponge base humidifiers or Gel cyrstals with distilled water only inside our humidors. Sound like the Ci gel is the reason your cigars became ruined......
@finnstralian Our pleasure! Glad this video is helping beginners get started in this great hobby of collecting & enjoying fine cigars as cigars only get better with age..... IF STORED PROPERLY :-)
The new upgraded humidifiers with the magnets are all standard with our humidors. You may not need to use the magnet with a glass top humidor, as it can be placed upright on its side.
how long in all did it take to season your humidor? and also sis you mean season it like how you did 4-5 times in one day? and again the next day? and ne more help would help... TY
You should only really have to season a new humidor a couple of times. Have you calibrated your hygrometer to make sure that it is reading the proper humidity? If your using the crystals it should have no problem keeping the hproper humidity. What humidor do you currently have?
Can anyone help me out I bought a brand new humidor after getting rid of my cheap old one I followed every instruction on the video and it's still not keeping the right humidity and suggestions on re seasoning or if I'm using too many crystal gels I currently have 3 inside. Thanks
@JOJOMIII you should only need to season your humidor once to get it started. If you are having issues you can add a shot glass with a wet paper towel inside the humidor, leave it for a couple days to boost the humidity inside the humidor then remove it. This trick will get humidity levels inside your humidor to a perfect level if you drop below your desired level.
@CIGARSTARCA i just bought a humidor on craigslist but it doesnt have the key. it is a humidor supream limited edition 2000 but its missing the key where if i can can i get a new one?
Hey, I've got a big problem. I've been using a Ci-gel humidity regulator in my humidor and now all my cigars are covered in a salty chemical residue inside and out that has completely ruined my cigars. I was told by the guys at my local store that this ci-gel which is a crystal gel regulator works well and i'm supposed to refill it once a month with a humidor wetting solution once a month which is what i did. any ideas what the hell happened? thanks!
He didn't soak the tray, he just lightly wiped it down lightly with a moist cloth. The separters for the tray were more or loss "soaked" a little more than a light wiping but not submerged in water like the humidifier itself.
@reyes7ho2 I do your right. My speech needs some work. It was harder then I thought it would be shooting the video. Basically I can only get better! Thanks for your feedback. :-)
@joli66 If your humidor is not holding humidity, then the seal might not be good anymore as if you follow these steps your humidor should be at a perfect humidity level. The wood in your 15 year old humiodr may have warpped, thus making the seal poor allowing the humidity to escape. I would suggest you start with a new humidor.
JUST AN FYI. If your humidor is too moist this could cause the formation of mold so you want to make sure that an analog hygrometer is reading properly. AFTER YOU SEASON YOUR HUMIDOR FOR THE FRIST TIME YOUR HYGROMETER SHOULD READ 80-85% HUMIDITY, IT WILL THEN DROP DOWN AS THE WOOD ABSORBS THE HUMIDITY TO THE IDEAL 65-70% IF YOUR HYGROMETER IS NOT ABOVE OR AROUND 80% AFTER YOU FIRST SEASON IT, YOU SHOULD CALIBRATE YOUR HYGROMETER
@kubsun You can never rush a good thing. Follow the video. In the mean time buy a large tupperware dish that locks closed and use the humidifer inside the tupperware dish until your humidor is fully seasoned, and ready for your cigars, sure would hate to see anyone ruin 100 fine cigars.
Do not use propylene glycol to season the inside of your cigar humidor. Only use the solution in your humidifier only. Just use the distilled water to season the inside of the humidor.
They all say that, because technically theirs is a better, and safer, way to season your humidor. The problem is that it takes far too long for wood, even bone dry wood, to absorb standing water from a shot glass. This method, when done carefully and properly, will do the job just as well and in far less time, although it may void your warranty, not sure.
1000's of Cigar Star humidors have been seasons this way. Some cheap humidors use very thin Spanish cedar veneer with MDF board behind the veneer. We all know what hapens when you get MDF board wet......."it expands" which is why some cheap humidors say not to use the wipe down method.
@JetSetterSOS If your seal is good then your humidor should be ready. IMPORTANT: AFTER YOU SEASON YOUR HUMIDOR FOR THE FRIST TIME YOUR HYGROMETER SHOULD READ 80-85% HUMIDITY, IT WILL THEN DROP DOWN AS THE WOOD ABSORBS THE HUMIDITY. IF YOUR HYGROMETER IS NOT ABOVE OR AROUND 80% AFTER YOU FIRST SEASON IT, YOU SHOULD CALIBRATE YOUR HYGROMETER. We have a video for this . :-)
You dont want to wet the inside, just wipe down the inside with a damp rag.or you can place a bowl of water inside the humidor and let it sit for 10-14 days.
Good question, cigar aficionado has rated cigars that were over 40 yrs old. So as long as they are stored properly they can be aged for many years. The older it gets the more mild they become. Check out our blog. cigarstar.blogspot.ca/
@brandon12084 Yes you are correct my speech needs some work. It was harder then I thought it would be shooting the video. I can only get better! Thanks for your feedback. You should try working on your spelling,,,lol
Cigar Star Humidors will perfectly replicate the tropical paradise in which most exquisite cigars are grown, fermented and rolled. Cigar’s are like fine wine. When stored properly they will only get better with age. www.cigarstar.ca
@80591593030 You should only need to do the wipe down a couple of times. If you are having issues you can add a shot glass with a wet paper towel inside the humidor, leave it inside for a couple days to boost the humidity inside the humidor then remove it. This trick will get humidity levels inside your humidor to a perfect level if you drop below your desired level. Having cigars inside the humidor will help with maintaining humidity as they will act as a humidifier.
@CyclesOvHate NEVER use the PG solution for the wipe down method when first seasoning your humidor. USE ONLY DISTILLED WATER. ONLY USE PG SOLUTION IN YOUR HUMIDIFIERS!
I have a humidor which is about 13-15 years old, in spanish cedar I would guess, It wasn't seasoned properly from the beginning and has not been humidified well following receipt. My question: How can I get it to work? Will I need to re-season it in a special manner? If so how? Thanks
Hope you didnt put your cigars in right away after seasoning the humdior, thisis why we say that you should do it before you go to bed as you need to let it sit, if you place your cigars in right away they will get damp and thats when mold can form. Dry cigars will suck up the humidity as each cigar will hold 1.5 grams of humidity. Re-charge your humidifier, you should be god.
The instructions that come with this particular humidor need to be improved. My wife got me one for xmas and the instructions say "take a new sponge...and wet it with a liberal dose of distilled water." I happened upon this video after I already used a LIBERAL amount of water. It wasn't dripping wet, but it was damn near. I did this 5-10 minutes before watching this vid, so I immediately tried to dry it up with another sponge and left the lid open. I hope it doesn't warp.
And for the love of Christ please make one of the first things you do be to get rid of that humidifier and replace it with a crystal/bead/gel based one.....anything but the foam.Or just remove the foam from inside of it and replace with beads, that's what I did.
This video is 5 years old all Cigar Star humidors now come with crystal humidifiers as a standard humidifier in all of our cigar humidors. cigarstar.ca/store/cigar-accessories/crystal-humidifier/
Most humidors will only need to be seasoned a couple of times before they are ready for your cigars, Some may only need to be seasoned once all depends on where your humidity level is on your hygrometer.
Why?? Cuz it's fucking annoying! I was thinking it the whole time! We know what it is. We looked it up. Rewatch your video and try to not want to punch yourself in the face. Your welcome.
