My solution to transport Kayak and other things on the roof of the Tesla Model X. SeaSucker is the way to go. www.seasucker.... I am in NO way getting paid for this. Just spreading a word about a great product!
Thanks for this - the lack of roof bars was the only thing that was holding me back from buying a Model X as I have a small kayak that I like to take on trips etc. One question - obviously I understand that I can't open either of the gullwing doors when there's a kayak on the monkey bars, but will I be able to open the tail gate? I have a 5 seater model X so kids could still access their seats through the trunk of the car when there's a kayak on the roof - is that right? Thanks so much for the great content 🙂
@johncarver3106, It all depends on how long the kayak is and how forward it is positioned. I was able to get my tandem kayak well balanced, and still be able to partially open the tailgate carefully. I would recommend to try it out but be careful.
Thanks for the video. Are these bars wide enough to support a kayak flipped upside down? I was also looking at SeaSucker's "Monkey Bars" instead of what you got since they're wider, is there a reason you went with the board rack?
James Hudon thanks for the comment. My tandem kayak would be too large to be flipped upside down to fit on the bars. Part of the reason I went with these bars is that I wanted to be able to transport other items besides kayak. Made more sense at the time. It is possible to attach kayak carrier to these bars, they function just like regular car roof rack.
One question: Do you know if the doors could start attempting to open if a kid hit the button ( even if I accidentally hit it on the screen ) for instance once you arrive to destination? Thanks for the post! I have been looking for a proper video on this issue video thanks.
FD B I have always made an effort to not open the doors by accident, but since the censors are directly under the kayak, they won’t let the doors open. But it is a constant though running through my head. And honestly not sure if I’m ready to even attempt this to test the theory.
DO NOT DO THIS. I used the seasucker on the Falcon wing top, just like him. It worked a number of times, then it cracked. The top window of the falcon wing door is not actually glass, rather its a clear plastic. $1000 to replace BTW. Not too mention I could have lost my bike when it cracked and done who knows what other damage. If you're going to use seasucker, keep it on the glass.
I attach it to the glass of the falcon door not the plastic. It is actually wide enough that it reaches and I agree, plastic would easily crack and best to avoid.
Do you know what the weight capacity on top of the glass is? I am not thinking on anything huge, but reluctant to put something too heavy for the glass.
Thanks for the video! Question: do you know the measurement from the inner edge of one suction cup, to the inner edge of the other? Trying to figure out if this will work on the roof of my BRZ, as the roof has a 'valley' (for lack of a better term) running down the center. Hope to see if I can use one of these without the risk of the suction cups hanging over the valley.
Kristen Von Ville , if you add the kayak attachments to the bars, I think it could be possible. The bars aren’t as wide though, gotta play around with that.

Haven’t had the need. The two strap die downs provide enough security to hold the kayak down. I don’t go faster than 60mph on highway just as a precaution.
Steven Wang model X doesn’t have the ability for a roof rack and it is quite secure. No issues at higher speeds and been using the past year without any issues
