Applying the correct chain lube is vital for the smooth operation of your bike's drivetrain. If you use the wrong kind it may wash off in wet conditions and your gears could begin to squeak, or it could attract a lot of dirt and cause premature wear to your chain, cassette and chainrings!
How do you lubricate your chain? Let us know. 👇

I use wax based lube. It does wonders. It's not the best lube for extremely muddy conditions, but it doesn't attract dirt, similar to the dry lube, and at the same time it is also water resistant as water tend to just bounce off wax. A lot pf mud can ultimately take it off, but it take a while, so it's my (very) happy compromise

The problem with squirt as i noticed is that since it's not a liquid, once the wax film between the contact points in the chain is damaged then wax particles don't rush in to fill the void.

How about the regular city riding guy ? For city ride in dry weather, I like the wet lube (green bottle) because the chain stays cleaner and because I can actually see when the chain needs lubed again. The Dry lube (red bottle) is basically invisible, one day after application it's hard to say if the lube is still there, plus it clearly packs up much more dirt and fine dust on the chain.

Surely wet lube will attract the same grit if not more than dry grit in the wet that sits in the rollers of the chain? Wet lube creates a horrible grinding paste that coats the entire drive train that wears the whole lot out rather than just the chain. Dry lube all year round for me.
@michaelb9664
@michaelb9664 4 года назад
gonga tots totally agree! Wet lube is horrible stuff.
@rupedog
@rupedog 4 года назад
Its doesnt wash off easily. In winter, dry lube will wash away quickly, and u have no lube, just the mud etc. Lube should sit inside the rollers, not on the chain surface, always wipe xs away.
@gongatots4115
@gongatots4115 4 года назад
@@rupedog a perfectly lubed chain only lasts as long as it stretches anyway. Using dry lube means a squirt of bike cleaner and a rinse and the whole drivetrian is gleaming after every ride. Less grinding paste means the cassette, derailleur jockey wheels and front chain ring last a lot longer. Even if the the entire dry lube washed off in the first 10 mins of a ride , water is still lubing the chain.
@michaelb9664
@michaelb9664 4 года назад
gonga tots again I agree. It’s got nothing to do with wiping off the excess wet lube. It still ruins your entire drivetrain turning it into thick black grinding paste, because it attracts every piece of grit once the chain rollers have passed over your cogs. Dry lube every single ride if you have too, at least the drivetrain isn’t covered in grinding paste and it is much easier to clean. I’ve never had an issue with dry lube on wet rides. It’s only a problem if it isn’t reapplied for the next time.

Assuming a 1x if not then put chain onto smallest front ring then check the following. Do you think dry lubricant PTFE actually sticks to a chain that was previously covered in oil? The truth is that lubricants only serve to keep your chain from rusting. Even wet lubricants don't penetrate into the roller pin bushings unless you soak it perhaps. Better off spending your money on new chains and replace them regularly to protect the way more expensive cassette. As long as you're not rusting, you're fine. But I guess you're not going to get a corporate sponsor for a boring lab video...
@rupedog
@rupedog 4 года назад
Totally incorrect. Diff chains have diff tolerances in manufacturing and some rollers will thus accept lube easier than others, but lube absolutely reduces wear and friction in a drive train...measurable and meaningful levels of watts

This episode should be called "Stating the bleeding obvious".... I'm a motorcycle rider and mechanic my whole adult life, but a mtb newbie aged 60. My road motorcycles get aerosol chain lube, but a cheapskate could put a 90w gear oil on and it would lube just as well. Test proven. My off road trials bikes get.... Nothing Nada Zilch. Just be prepared to change components every year or two depending on useage. Anything i put on the chain will attract crap and wear everything out quicker. So i don't put anything on... Regards,

I hear ya. But in my experience with MTB if i ride a lot without any lube, things will start to break and my drivetrain will shift poorly and I'll go through like 2 to 3 chains per year. Lube definitely makes a huge positive difference.

Nice looking bike but poor quality control or poor transport.Rear wheel has major issues right out of the box. ru-vid.comUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Rear axle is bent! Derailleur is misaligned.Since the rear wheel comes assembled I would have expected better.Assembly instructions poorly written, but that was not unexpected...just annoying.I just had the bike checked at a shop and was told that I should contact the seller about getting a whole rear wheel assembly with cartridge. (The bike shop could not do anything to help me).Not a good experience with this bike, so lesson learned.Added 3 stars for excellent customer serviceUpdate Sept 8 2020Just received a complete replacement wheel for free. Great service and an otherwise fine bike.

this whole video was way over produced... Just tell us that Dry lube attracts less dirt but is washed away easier & wet lube dilutes and gets thick but stays on longer.
