Dear Catrina, Thanks so very much for this wonderful video, it's making a beautiful improvement to my life. Unfortunately, the last few times I've used it, near the start there are some really loud adverts that play automatically and they don't have a 'skip ads' button. Not sure if other viewers are having the same issue, it's very naughty of YT... ❤

oof, that's a bummer. hopefully, I can get more agency over ads as the channel grows.

Hello, thank you for your message. I don't as yet create Ayurvedic herbal formulations; however, I can recommend a kumkumadi powder you can add to your oil, cure in the sun, then use for your practice: most of the herbs on this website are prepared by our vaidyas; but, a longtime practitioner friend in Australia also makes: vitalveda.com.au/product/kk-powder/

Why is it left for ladies and right for men ? Any particular reason behind this ?
@sensualselfx

Apologies for the delayed response Doreen. You caught me in the middle of a move to Mexico. The microchannels of energy, or the nadis (sanskrit), on the left side of the body are said to be feminine and lunar, whilst the right side are said to be masculine and solar. The nadis are akin to other systems of microchannels, for example, the meridians in TCM; but not the same. They are subtler than our gross physical channels. You can start on either side, as you feel charmed. It is not a rigid system in any way. With the intention of tuning into my feminine embodiment, I tend to favor the left. You can choose as you wish. Whichever side you do start with, stick with it for at least a few weeks, before experimenting with the other, to tune-in to the subtle differences or shifts each bring.

Great video! question: why is it important to end with downward strokes?
@yt4ash1
@yt4ash1 2 года назад
Hi, In other videos of Abhyanga the direction of massage is towards the heart that is upwards but here your emphasis is downward direction. Now I’m confused. Please advice.
@CatrinaArmendariz
@CatrinaArmendariz 2 года назад
you can do either. the aim of downward movements is to enhance the vata pacifying effects of the massage.
@SoulSoundEnergy

Thanks for sharing this wonderful practice, but as an Ayurvedic massage therapist l have to mention that to cleanse toxins and replenish prana the strokes need to finish towards the excretion section of the body. ie top section goes down and bottom section goes up. This is how we've always worked with the energy lines , marma points and lymphatic system. 🙏🙌

Great video! Thank you for sharing this. How do you cleanse the oil off the body? Do you need to use moisturizer after cleansing?
@CatrinaArmendariz
@CatrinaArmendariz 3 года назад
Hi Poulomi, thank you for tuning in! The recommended cleanse is to use a gram powder (chickpea flour) mixed with water. The traditional method is an ubtan prepared with finely ground pulses and herbs, which you can curate according to your vakriti (your current constitution). Best not to use a commercial soap, if able to avoid it. You can re-apply an oil on the skin after your post-Abhyanga cleanse. I favor Jojoba post-Abhyanga because it works well with my constitution. Moisturizing with a cream or lotion is fine, if you find you still need it; however, best if you can prepare your own moisturizers to avoid parabens and other such compounds typically found in commercial skincare. The ideal is that with a balanced diet and lifestyle and consistent Abhy practice, you wouldn't need to use creams/lotions, but adapt as needed.

Can I leave the coconut oil on the body over night?
@CatrinaArmendariz
@CatrinaArmendariz 11 месяцев назад
Yes, after first applying and leaving it on for 48 minutes. (Also, if you don’t mind oily sheets). If not, the toxins will be reabsorbed and you’ll get oleation benefits only. In many cases, the skin imbalances seen during detox may exacerbate as the toxins are pulled to the surface of the skin and remain there / reabsorbed vs. cleansed off the body. Best to wash it off after letting the oil sit for a while, then reapply, if desiring oleation whilst asleep.

Hi Does direction of movement matter ?
@CatrinaArmendariz
@CatrinaArmendariz 11 месяцев назад
yes, downward movement supports downward movement of apana vayu (subtle air associated with elimination) and grounding of the nervous system.

Do i need to moisturize body after shower even if I done abhyanga?
@jakec5618
@jakec5618 Год назад
A question, I'm a little confused why one would take a shower after applying the oil? Wouldn't that just wash it off. Perhaps I am mistaken but I was under the impression that one should take a shower 1st, Then do abhyanga. Any thoughts. Thanks
@agata2754
@agata2754 Год назад
Because the skin throws out toxins at night, during oil massage they are collected so it is worth washing them off

Benefits of Abhyanga are two-fold +. Oleating and detoxing. The oil is lipophilic and, esp when herbalized, it pulls toxins from the seven layers of tissues below the skin surface to the skin surface (in Ayurveda, they’re referred to as the seven Dhatus). These toxins should be washed off around 48 minutes post-application. Then, you can reapply oil and keep on the skin throughout the day.

Is there a recommended amount of time for this to take?
@CatrinaArmendariz
@CatrinaArmendariz 3 года назад
Hi Carlee, apologies for the delayed reply; I've just arrived in Mexico after an extended relocation here. The ideal amount of time is 48 minutes total. Otherwise, anywhere between 7.5 - 48 minutes is the next best. Hope this helps.

Hello, this varies according to each individual's physiology + health. If physiology is strong, you may begin after the 1st trimester and stop before the 8th month. You can check-in with me if needed: info@napua.org. Happy abhyanga :)

Does speed matter? You’re going quite fast
@CatrinaArmendariz
@CatrinaArmendariz 3 года назад
yes, it makes a difference what speed you do this at. i'm going fast for the sake of instruction (i should have noted this - and will make a note for future edits). if you're vata vitiated, which most of us are, start slower and gently. your pace may build in time. it will certainly shift with you, and let it. whatever your pace, let it come naturally, see how you respond, and adjust as needed.

and can i do this while i have menstruation
@CatrinaArmendariz
@CatrinaArmendariz 2 года назад
Hi, apologies for my delayed response. No abhy during menstr. Best to avoid abhyanga during menstrual cycle and simply take rest from activity. Abhyanga is moving vayus (air element in the body) in a different direction than menstruation. During menstruation, it is best to support apana vayu, or the downward flow and movement.

Can it be done without oil? I’m not used to use a lot products on my body. Yes, oil from time to time is great but more time per week is too much for me.
@CatrinaArmendariz
@CatrinaArmendariz 2 года назад
Hi Nadja, you can def do this massage without oil, the self-referral consciousness practice still applies (bodily awareness), as well as the effect of the motions on circulation; however, the detoxifying and nourishing effects of the oils, esp. when medicated, will not be gained.
@nadja9674
@nadja9674 2 года назад
@@CatrinaArmendariz Thank you so much for the answer! :) I do believe oil helps but I can not do it everyday. I have very sensitive skin and the less I put on (even the most natural products), the more good it is.
