I can't tlek to you how helpful this video has been. I've been searching trying to find a video that explains the actual publish process. Thank you so much!
This was an excellent presentation. Exceptionally good for beginners such as I. The steps were presented in an easy to follow and understand way unlike so many tutorials that seem geared to the understanding of experienced techies. Can't thank you enough! Blessings.
Thanks a lot for your eye-opening video on Amazon KDP self - publishing. I really enjoyed it. I have problem getting my book pass the review stage. The very first work book I submitted for Amazon review passed the test and was published by Amazon. After a day or two, it was blocked. Since then, I have submitted two workbook for review, and were equally blocked . What do I do?
Great presentation thanks, I'm just starting to think about this as I've just finished my first book. What kind of money do you get for publishing a book??
Thank you. Very helpful. I am writing a novel with two or maybe three planned sequels. After downlading my first novel into Amazon KDP can I make editing changes and iclude chapter headings and add correct page numbers etc. Also can I add information about the sequels and planned launch dates?
Yes you can update an already published book, just edit and re-upload the manuscript. A note that if this changes the page length, you'll need to remake the cover in the correct dimensions.
I appreciate the info, it's been very helpful. I was just wondering about the book cover/wrap. I've hired a friend to do the book cover and we've already settled on a design for the front. I didn't realize that I'd also need him to do the spine and back but I don't think that should be an issue as he's a talented artist and has done artwork for people's books in the past. I was curious about the information about the book on the cover itself, mainly on the spine and the back cover. Is that all info that I should give to him to add or is that information I add in the KDP program? Again, thank you so much for the info!
If it's an ebook you just need the front cover, if a paperback then you need the wrap :). Go to kdp cover calculator for the dimensions and you can include whatever you want really on your book cover! But there are industry standards that most follow... And yes that all needs to be on the cover by your designer as a printable pdf file
Hi! Thanks for a very nice presentation! Your books look fantastic! I have a lot to do before I release my trilogy via "Rapid Release" and I want to have all three with front and back covers. My front covers I had a pro design, but can't afford back covers and must design my own and the spines. I want POD in paperback and hard cover. The ideal for me is get all three books ready but not publish for a while and keep them in reserve. I'm not sure how long it will take to make my own author/musician website. I'm thinking its better to have a website than just an author page on Amazon, right? Also how can I get all three books ready but not set a date? If I set a date then there's pressure to get all ready in time and I don't want that. Plus I will leave with copies of Book One to give to relatives on a 650 mile bicycle trip to visit them and also get three gift shops to sell copies and maybe newspaper and radio interviews on the way. I want to have a sign on my bike noting "Author Selling his book!" or the like. I want to get things ready and publish in reasonable time but in my newbie case there are a lot of unknowns. . Does KDP allow for that kind of situation? AI read my whole trilogy but did nothing but praise my story all the way except ChatGPT said to shorten some of my lengthy dialogue at the start of my Book One. AI didn't do any editing, grammar... nothing else. Is ChatGPT designed to only praise writer's stories, or will the be critical when necessary? If ChatGPT likes my story very much does it mean my story is actually good? Do I have to say AI helped me with my story? I wrote my trilogy entirely by myself with comments from free lance editors and several beta readers. Any input from anybody is much appreciated!
Thank you for a clear instruction. It's my first time and I spent the whole day on the process. Finally everything went through, but after going through all the bank info, it got disconnected itself. What should I do besides doing it all over again? Please give me advice. Thanks in advance. Ida
@@selfpublishingempire Thanks, it keeps asking me to do the same thing, to update my bank info, which I have done it already, over and over again. I couldn't go back to press the "publish" button.
@@selfpublishingempire yes I did. Should I go to my Amazon account that I created for this process? Would all my info and download of my book still there? Or I have to start everything from scratch? Thanks.
Not 100% sure of the issue so just make sure your account is all set up, bank details entered, tax interview completed and then go to Amazon kdp sign up, go to the bookshelf and create a book. Enter the info and upload your manuscript (which should be on your computer so no need to download from amazon?) and cover . If there were errors before the book should be in draft state and you can edit.
make sure to look through Amazon's KDP guidelines as to what's expected/accepted and then you'll need to use a program, either free like Canva or paid like Book Bolt/Adobe InDesign to format and export your manuscripts in the correct formats/settings :). If you're just writing a book then Word will be fine too.
Thank you! Where are you looking to upload pictures of the book to? If for Amazon a+, then you'll need to wait until the book is finished and uploaded to amazon
Thank you. Very helpful info. I am a published author of 2 books (Random House) which are sold on amazon. And I really want to get into self publishing on Amazon. Do you know if this will impact me in any way? or can I leverage off this? Susan
I think you'll be absolutely fine. If you were to publish under a new pen name then there's not really any conflict and/or benefit really. If you wanted to use the same author name, liklihood is that you wouldn't be able to link to the two trad published books, but people may find you by searching for your name - I'd just check any contracts to make sure you're allowed to do so!
If I want to add my affiliation where can that be added? As I'm currently working at a University and want to reflect it as one of my research progress at the University also. Please advise.
I'm new to Amazon KDP and I have made a series of 30+ coloring books around one niche. But I and I have made over 50 color books total in different niches. And today I decided to upload my very first one on Amazon KDP and I can't get the cover page correct. 😢 I'm so discouraged.
Well done on creating the books that's awesome and the hard part! Go to kdp cover calculator to find the exact specs for your cover and then it should be relatively plain sailing, especially once you've made one!
@@selfpublishingempire ya I figured it out yay 😁 now I can load all the other coloring books I made. All are kawaii but hopefully some of mine stand out in the crowd 😉
Awesome video. Can I self publish on my own website and also have it publish on Amazon? Is there a way I can advertised my own website on the book I publish on the Amazon website? Can I put the buying options as 1. direct from me or 2. Amazon and out both options on my website?
Double check the terms of service but as long as its not an ebook in kindle unlimited i believe you can sell on your website as well :). The only thing is you’d need to print it somehow yourself if not selling through amazon (eg ingram spark)
Hi, I was using Canva's free elements to create my KDP books, which I understood was fine as long as you modify and make you own design from them which is what I did. however, I've just seen videos from a few months ago saying that we can no longer do this as we have to tick the copyright box when uploading our book. Can you confirm this is the case as I have just been creating another book with Canva elements. Thanks :)
Sorry I can’t be more helpful on this, I don’t use Canva! But I’d recommend reading through their usage guide and maybe google where those elements come from to make sure you have tights to those elements!
Thanks for your reply :) I'm now getting the impression from a couple of other videos I have seen that the problem is with using Canva's paid elements. The Free ones may be ok to use.@@selfpublishingempire
Thank you for this walkthrough! I had a writer approach me to illustrate her picture book, but it seems like she would have all the sales information, and I would just have to take her word for it. I think I'll just publish my own picture books 😅
Thank you very much for this excellent, clear and well-presented how-to video. Definitely helped ease the worries I have about this new (to me) process of printing books. As a designer, I usually work with printers directly which leaves me with more control over the project. This video gave me some of the straight answers and examples I needed. Thank you again!
Great video, thanks. If my paperback has just 6 pages of photos of 172, can't I get the writing in cream? do I have to pick white so photos are colour?
Sorry Dean I don't completely understand the question... If you want to only have a few pages colour and the rest black and white, I think it still needs to be a colour book (which is more expensive) - if that helps at all? Else if it's between cream and white, you can choose cream and still have colour I believe?
I am struggling to get sales.. I have already published 29 books. I have got only 3 unit sold. I am working on this from last 6 months..Can you give me some free marketing ideas that I can implement? As a beginner I don't have much money to spend on amazon ads
Unfortunately amazon ads are needed from my experience to scale your business. So for now just continue with adding more quality books and lower competition niche research
You just publish it to Amazon and it'll be available where amazon publishes self published books. Other marketplaces may take a little while to be available after it being approved.
Thank you for this informative video. Does anyone know if there's a threshold for what is considered "low content?" I'm working on a book in which I've created illustrations and original quotes that are placed throughout the book (sort of a motivational ledger of sorts), but other than that, it IS a book to be filled out by a user (it has pages and pages of blank lines). So despite my content additions, is it still just a "low content" book and therefore, in the Amazon upload process, it MUST be indicated as such?
Yes it might end up expensive but definitely a possibility. If you know how long it'll be use the Amazon royalty calculator to find out what price point you'd need to place it at.
Thank you, if you no longer have a paid subscription to Creative Fabrica, do you lose your copyright license for a product that was published when you were a paid subscriber? Thanks!
Yes, double check the subscription type but from the rights FAQ you can "Keep selling products after you cancel your subscription. For example, you are allowed to keep selling existing "Quotes / Banners / Shirts / etc" that you created while you had an active subscription."
Very informative video..thank you. I am hoping to self publish a non fiction book on health coaching in the next couple of years, with the view to also marketing paper back copies in a shop outside UK. I am certain I will go the KDP way but was wondering if there's a best way forward to print the actual copies ? How do I engage a printing company to print once I go with Amazon? Any advice will be most welcome pls.I am a little green in this area😊 Thanks
Thanks! There's two main routes. 1/ Self Published through Amazon KDP. Thjey supply an ISBN for free and you sell only on Amazon (for the majority) and whenever a purchase is made Amazon print it in their warehouse and ship it, and they take a fairly decent royalty for that. 2/ Buy your own ISBN and then print via a third party like Ingram Spark who also help with distribution and then sell 'wide' - on Amazon and other areas. 3/ If you're looking for physical copies to sell on and not worried about distribution, I'd google and get quotes from people and get a sample done :)
Hi, great video, just one question on the name section. I've seen a lot of note books that have "Insert niche name here" (e.g Kawaii characters) NOTEBOOK : (then the subtitle etc) but the only WORD on the cover is NOTE BOOK although it has Kawaii images on the cover. My question is if i start out in Journals etc is it ok to have the COVER text just state Journal while the cover design has the images of whatever niche im targeting (As i seem to be finding on amazon) and to have the Description name be for example Kawaii Character Journal : A cute daily journal of my thoughts, Or would that cause problems? Sorry if this seems a no brainer but i don't want to cause issues before i even beggin, Thanks :)
Thanks for helping to clear this up for me, and anyone else who may have the same thoughts. Thanks again and, Hope you have a great Newyear@@selfpublishingempire
