Very good. Active self rescue is so important. Often over the years, I've seen so many passive swimmers. I would add, in dangerous white water, that hanging onto your boat can be a life saving advantage. Example: I one time ended up swimming in a rapid. That had a lot of underwater sieves. I stayed with my boat. Used it as extra floatation. I could feel the sieves pulling on my legs. If I hadn't had that extra floatation of my boat. They probably would have sucked me down. And I wouldn't be here now.
