How to Sell A Board Game - Start To Finish 

As a note, my copy sold within 25 minutes, with 2 more people interested before I had a chance to mark it as sold. Don't always expect that, but the point is the system works.

This is fantastic, I love to see the start to finish and this type of thing is what I do for my work every day, showing the process start to finish but not going super in depth on every detail because that would just take forever!

Watched for your shipping recommendation happy to learn of a new one. For packing I also will use cling wrap to basically reseal any used games to keep covers from slipping.

excellant tutorial, very concise & to the point, thank you! In the recent past I have sold a number of games to BoardGameCo & the brick & mortar store Noble Knight Games (located here in the US). I recommend either of those routes for people (myself included) who prefer a minimum amount of work & hassle & don't mind taking a few bucks less (vs direct sale to individuals) in exchange for those perks/tradeoffs. You do need to sell a multiple number of games at once to make it worthwhile, typically 10-15 at a time has worked for me. But again, thumbs up for this tutorial!

Your timing is impeccable :-D . I just went through my collection and have a stack of 40 games to sell in the upcoming weeks. I always enjoy your channel and it was your recommendations on how to treat my collection and what to keep or get rid off, that helped me in getting this big stack ready for sale.

A the good old 'Volumetric' shipping. It is something that a few people don't fully understand. Great video as always. I've sold through BGG, eBay and I think another site. Really should go via Face Book. But yes eBay will take the biggest percentage from your sales, they'll also take a percentage of your shipping as well. Even if you don't use them to ship through.

Great video! What do you do w.r.t shipping a game/many games that weigh a ton? That usually makes shipping costs pretty high. Do you pass the whole shipping cost to the customer, or do you eat part of the cost to make shipping more reasonable for the buyer?

I was a powerseller on Ebay in other categories and did enough volume to cover the losses from buyer's scamming the system but have been worried about selling some of my old games because one $100 loss could nullify a whole lot of work.

As someone who sells several games a month, I approve of this video, with one addition: this is purely focused on the US Market. For Europe, you have other Facebook groups and other methods of shipping for instance. But the basic ideas remain the same. Nice video once again. How do you find the time to make all of them?

I may have missed it, but do you get estimates for shipping prices prior to making a listing? We all have games of varying sizes and weights so there's no way to get accurate shipping estimates other than going to shipping site and getting an estimate. I really hate if if I undercharge shipping as that is directly cutting into my profits.

Hey Alex, thanks so much for this *excellent* video! I'm one of the people who have been asking for it, and this video is exactly what I was looking for. I have one question about shipping: how did you come up with the $10 charge for shipping? I assume that the amount you charge will depend on the size and weight of the game. How much would you charge to ship Codenames? How much would you charge to ship Gloomhaven? How about the All-In for Bloodborne?

I'm having a hard time finding the Board Game Exchange group you use in your video. I see that it says it's a group by BGR but I don't see it on their page or anywhere really.

PayPal Multi-order shipping is another good option, the rates are often the same as Pirate Ship, but pirate Ship gives you the regional rate box options and PayPal doesn't.

How do you distinguish between Like New and Very Good? I'm always torn when I have a relatively unplayed game. I want to positively promote the game but I also don't want to create unrealistic, unfulfilled expectations.

Did things change in the past 2 1/2 weeks? Tried sitting down and using your walkthrough today and there are a lot more questions asked (ex: shipping) and Facebook says it will take 5%. Is listing on BGR powered my Facebook marketplace or something now?

I really wish you would have gone over shipping a little more. Maybe when you sell it, you can show that process? The reason is shipping prices for board games are pretty expensive and go past $10. Since the boxes are heavy and big. Fedex and UPS are WAY more expensive then USPS, so I'm curious how much of a discount you get from those sites you mentioned.

Great video. A few weeks ago I started selling part of my collection. I listed on FB marketplace and some local groups and sold 20+ games in a couple of weeks. Since then - crickets, even though I still have more than two-dozen that I'm trying to sell. Do you notice ebbs and flows in sales? Did I just saturate the market?

How do you take your payment?

So, I guess eBay it is, since I avoid Facebook on principle. I guess there aren't any hints on selling on BGG either.

I would also say that being clear about return policy and refund policy might be a good idea...

Alex I need help thinking of a Kickstarter game unless I dreamt it! I swear I remember almost backing a bee hive / honeybee game where I thought you sort of layer tiles to build a nest. Does anybody know a good site or group to sell Boardgames in Europe? Im from Vienna (Austria) and i mostly have a tough time finding a buyer

I could be wrong about this, but I never price-check with eBay...for some reason eBay's prices seem inflated WAY beyond what games usually sell for. The BGG price history in the Geekmarket seems to be the best estimate for what a game actually sells for, since it shows recent sales, etc. I usually price check with that and can usually sell any game I put up for sale based on those prices!

BGG is not reliable for checking prices unless you really dig in. It's all over the place, and that's largely because someone might sell an insert, or promo, under the listing for the game since there's nowhere specific to sell the insert on there otherwise, so unless you really look into those sales and exactly what was included, looking at them at a glance can be very misleading.

I found for me (in Belgium) the fastest way is to place them in local facebook boardgame groups.

You have to pay attention to the shipping also, the $125 sale was free shipping and the $95 was not. So in reality those two were a lot closer than $30 apart.

One thing I've seen other sellers mention is if your home is smoke-free and/or pet-free.

For anyone that buys way too many games you probably have the disposable income to just donate the game. If you're less set on the money you might just get that nice feeling of giving to a charity.

In 2015 or so I lost interest in boardgames and around 2018 I sold almost my entire collection (kept Battlestar Galactica, luckily) to afford a fullframe camera which I used almost every weekend since. This put me onto a minimalist journey, further getting rid of stuff I don’t need. I got back into boardgames recently, do not regret the sold games except a few I sold to a friend after being persuaded by a friend (mansions of madness 1, Chaos in the old world and tragedy looper, already got them back), but boardgames and Kickstarter make owning less and spending less money really hard haha :D The boardgame community is a bunch of hoarders. „I haven’t played 60% of my collection“ here, „this is still in shrinkwrap, when was that Kickstarter, 4 years ago?“ there. It’s so refreshing to see somebody like you who curates his collection and really thinks about what he needs and keeps and isn’t afraid to get rid of something. I also tend to buy a lot used, that way I can usually sell it for a similar price not losing to much money. „Does it hold its value“ is something I think about as well.
