Anyone who tries to repair a watch needs to have a good patience & memory to disassemble & assemble the watch mechanism back. Minute attention to detail is amazing. Truly a piece of art

True. These days one can use own phone to take a lot of pictures during disassembly, or go online for a picture or diagram, but no technology will help one develop patience and motor skills to work with tiny parts.

Thought you should know. I've watched this video and part 2 over and over. I just did the same job on a 955.121 with the day/date function. Doubt I'd ever accomplished completion without this video. Thanks!!

I’m a vehicle mechanic,(or was) people used to say how do you remember where all the parts go.Particularly on Auto boxes. Well some of us are born mechanics. It is all I ever wanted to do.I’m talking about when we repaired things. Not replace them. But! this is a different level. I can honestly say! How on earth do you remember how to reassemble a watch? I could certainly strip one,but that is where it would end, a pile of parts. 😁😁. Watchmakers! Born, not taught. Brilliant vids.

I have never seen the complete strip down of a quartz watch. I service my own quartz watch by replacing the batteries and if needed, the seals, but I never ever had to break it down into little pieces- this is quite fascinating to watch and learn, not as many parts as a mechanical, but there are parts for sure.

Hi Ferdinand. It helps to use non-magnetic tweezers, I recommend a decent pair of brass tweezers (Dumont are excellent). Use insulated tweezers when picking up the battery. I have an L&R cleaning machine (automatic with ultrasonic) and an Elma SuperElite cleaning machine (manual, no ultrasonic). I prefer the cheaper SuperElite as I have more control and it's less messy. I use cleaning fluid in the first jar and rinse in the second and third jars. Both cleaning and rinse fluids are made by L&R

Great video, thanks. I just replaced a rusty movement in a hi-end wristwatch that has an ETA 956.112 movement in it. For the experience I disassembled the rusty one, figuring that I'd never get it back together. Well, now I can probably put in in my cleaning machine and have a shot at getting it back together, perhaps even working again. That would not be remotely possible without this video. You're providing great information, and presenting it extremely well. Thanks again. Cheers.

You are very smart by using a pair of brass tweezers. All quartz watches contain a magnet 🧲, which would cling onto regular tweezers. That is one ☝️ precision quartz watch movement you’re working on. All my watches contain a plastic movement. They keep time very well, but will only last a period of a few years. Your friend, Jeff.

Hi Mark, Many thanks for some interesting and informative videos. I've learned a lot from them. My limited experience is of wind-up mechanical movements and I'm familiar with tightening the cannon pinion when hands are slow to move after setting. I have a 1980s 13 jewel Cyma cal 131 that takes almost a minute for hands to move, then keeps perfect time. I haven't taken the dial off. How do you correct this problem. BrianB.

Thanks yet again on a very clean and clear tutorial. Like your videos a lot. I am wondering if you need to use different types of tweezers to work on Quartz and manual movements? Also, would be great if you actually show the cleaning process of the parts as well; the type of cleaning machine, type of cleaner / rinser, drying process, etc.

Hi, great educational video! Thanks for sharing! As I see it from here, this movement was in immaculate condition. Just curious, would it be really necessary to take a nice movement like this apart for cleaning? Another thing, lubrication of the quartz movements. I am going to search on your channel, as you've mentioned there is a video on that topic. Thank you!

Hi there, I have a £200 HUGO BOSS quartz watch. I changed the battery today as the watch had slowed down. Battery was replaced maybe a year or so ago. Even with new battery out in this morning, I noticed this evening it was 10 minutes behind the actual time... seems fine again now I've readjusted. But does it sound like my watch needs a service? It's either or approaching 3 years old and I haven't serviced it yet, only replaced a battery once since this time now, which shocked me really as I thought batteries should keep a watch running accurately for at least 2 years. Also how much would I be looking at for servicing this type of watch? Thanks, Peter

first time seeing the quality quartz watch movement… I thank you for that… I just bought a Timex expedition scout your obviously an expert and I already know it's not the quality of what I see in the video. May I please ask an expert a question? What do you think a Timex life expectancy of the movement is approximate? If you can answer may I say I would be grateful. So interesting learning about watches. I have mechanical antiques but now I'm just learning how quartz works and its unique very interesting. Anyway I hope I hear from you and thank you

I have an Omega with a Cal 1444 movement and it has an erratic seconds hand, it lines up with the dial markers from the 6 to the 11 position but jumps and goes out of line between 11 and 6, does this sound like one of the cogs is worn inside the movemement ? By the way it keeps good time..

Hi there! Firstly , I am not a watch expert. I got a new watch as a gift and it had not battery on it, the battery was in the box and I tried putting it on my own. I somehow opened the wTch but, when I put in the battery , there was this small thing near the battery hole, I think it is called a spring or a contact, I'm not sure. In this video at 5.22 you remove the whole thing by holding on to an arm like thing (it has 9.5 written on it) The one that touches the battery terminals. That part broke and I don't know what to do. This part is really small and is there was way to fix it back to the watch? Thank you!

Hi, a own a HEUER 230006 and the coil is damaged. I figured out the movement is ETA 555.112. As I saw in the video, if the circuit board is damaged it has to be replaced. Therefore I've looking for the replacement but there's no replacement under the same reference number, instead there are circuit boards ETA 955.112. This last one would work for my watch? Thanks for your time

Hello. I have a men's Geneve 14K gold watch with a ETA 955414 movement. I wanted to replace the battery and ran into a problem. I pulled on the stem to remove it and the crown separated from the stem. The crown has a female end while the stem has a male end. Very similar to the way a grafting tool creates a male and female end. Do I replaced the battery and the watch runs fine. The problem I have is that I can't reattach the crown. When I push the crown onto the stem, the stem recesses into the movement too far and I am unable to engage the crown onto the stem. Do you have any idea how I can fix this problem. Thanks
