Just to clarify 2 things; I haven't serviced it every year since it was purchased. This is why the 1 wheel is seized (the previous shop never anti-seized the axles). As for the Briggs Spark Plug in a Tecumseh engine, I just meant that it's an "original Briggs plug" and I probably used that last year in place of an RJ19LM or BR2-LM. Additionally, for anyone interested, I have a cool new tool (induction heat gun) that I now use to free up seized wheels. The issue is, it's time consuming, so I would have to charge my customers for this additional service. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x3tUpiHrD5I.html

Hey man, love your videos! About the seized wheel, the way I got mine off was using a of rebar about same diameter of the axel butt to butt and hammered at the other end of the rebar while a helper used a crowbar as a lever on the other side of the wheel. Also sprayed in wd40 along the way

It works better when you have the 'ON/OFF' switch in the 'ON' position. I was wondering why it would not start. It's a good thing that nobody saw me trying to start it. Old age!
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance 3 года назад
That's why when I shut them off, I always wait for the engine to stop, then flip the switch back to ON. That way, the next time I'm ready to start it, the switch is already in the right position.

Excellent video. Something you also could include for older machines, whether it’s snow blowers or lawn mowers: every few years I’ll take the housing off where the fly wheel is, and I will sand the magnets on the flywheel and the rust on the coil pack, and then stick a few pieces of paper in between the coil pack and flywheel as I re-attach the coil pack, to set the gap between pack and flywheel. This really helps improve the spark and my 17 year old snow blower still starts on first or second pull.....I would always rather pull start because it’s easier than getting the cord out and hooking it up.

A lot of really good info, but you could have sprayed some kind of rust buster on that wheel and let it sit while you were doing everything else. After you were done, one slight tap with a rubber mallet might have worked.
@wayne57chevy53
@wayne57chevy53 4 года назад
Very good basic info before snow season although I have found changing to a new spark plug will help starting in very cold weather. You should have asked the owner about fixing the rusted / wheel problem just in case there was a flat tire later. Spray oil lube to throttle cable which is a wire in a wound wire housing that get wet and can rust up. Check tire pressure too.

@mellowfellow9
@mellowfellow9 3 года назад
As he stated in the beginning of the video, this was a tune up - not a repair. I'd imagine that he's used good judgement on wether he could 'spin' the wheel off. If one wheel came off, why spend extra time and charge the customer to get the other wheel off, if that wasn't what was requested?
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance 3 года назад
Finally someone who gets it, I service it and keep the other wheel coated so it always comes off. Bushing replacement won't be an issue as long as the axle can be removed from 1 side. It's on there way to tight and we're currently working on getting an induction heat gun that will allow us to do seized wheel removals easily.

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I just serviced my newly aquired Toro 826-OE that is circa 2014, and only been used 3 times. One wheel was siezed on the shaft so I removed the shaft, drive gear, and woodruff key. The key didn't come out easily. Using penetrant, a brass hammer, and a bench vise I was able to remove the shaft from the wheel. I agree with your statement to grease the axle shaft annualy. It's interesting you filled the auger gear case with a grease. My manual for the Toro 826-OE states: "GL-5 or GL-6, SAE 80-90 EP gear oil lubricant" and the correct fill level is 3/8" below the opening. My gear case looks just like the one you worked on. Do some of these cases use grease and others use gear oil?

We had a snowblower for over 10 years and the only service it's had was replacement of the friction wheel once, maybe twice. The engine oil was serviced regularly. Last week, I replaced all the belts, friction plate, some springs, and some bolts. I also lubricated everything. It took approximately 15 minutes to remove the left wheel and 40 minutes to remove the right wheel. I degreased the axles, cleaned then with steel wool, then applied antiseize compound. The differential was not working. So I had to diagnose and repair that also. I knew nothing about snowblower prior to this and now I feel like an expert. But there is still one mystery: how to drain the gearbox oil?
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance 2 года назад
So the gearboxes now you just add grease, I have a video on that; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0hjBUBvx5DU.html

A note on how I managed to break free my seized wheel. Fire up the blower , pull out the axle pin on the offending wheel, and move the blower to a high traction area. Concrete is best. Put the blower in 1st gear and engage the drive while trying to hold the blower from moving. This , in my case, broke the bond that the rust had on the shaft and it started spinning inside the wheel. Then it was just a matter of wiggling the tire off , cleaning the shaft and lubing it properly so it won't seize again. Hope this helps.
@muzikmon2267

According to a lot of snow blow repair places they say It's not necessary to lubricate the gears in the chains on the left hand side there just where you put the grease on the shaft. I wonder why that is It's interesting..

You might have put some penetrating oil on the stuck wheel and axle at all spots available. Sometimes an impact gun will loosen them. I have tried an acetylene torch on one stubborn one with no success. Cut the axle in the middle and reconnect using a sleeve and roll pins. In Ontario Shell Premium does not have Ethanol. I use it in all small engines. I always radially sand the drive plate for additional friction. Spray the inside of the chain as well.

Good overall maintenance. Should spray some WD40 on that wheel that is stuck and let it soak in even if you didn't want to spend the time to remove it. At least by next year it may free itself on it's own when you do that years maintenance. Funny to see an original Briggs spark plug in a Tecumseh engine. Obviously it was replaced at some point in time. Most people forget to grease the impeller gear box, good to see it being looked after.

Wow, very good video, really to the point and extremely clear instructions... You wouldn't happen to be located near Montreal 😅 We could use a pro such as yourself ;)

Fuel additives dont do jack...nothing more than snake oil...best thing for small engines is non ethanol gas...and if its not available to buy locally then you can extract the ethanol from pump gas...plenty of videos on the tube to show how :)

As a motorcyclist I would like to mention when lubing a chain it has been said that it should be lubed to the inside o it, that way the centrifical force with push the lube to the outside.... Just saying.

@@TorontoAreaNestBox Really? Clever? Centrifugal force? On a snowblower? Would that be in forward gear above 50mph? That is one magical snowblower!

Yea maybe on a motorcycle it makes sense, these chains on these snowblowers spin very slowly in comparison!

I have a simplicity 2 stage is only one wheel for traction the right does not spin when the left is moving
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance Год назад
It's probably pinned to the outside of the wheel to make it easier to turn. If you want pozi traction, pin the wheel through the axle.
