A year later and this video helped me a bunch. Just bought my first set of coilovers brand new and had no idea how to set anything this helped me a ton.
Wish I would have seen this video a couple hours ago. Now I gotta undo what I’ve been screwing up last couple hours. You definitely Made it simple looking and easily understandable. Definitely got a new subscriber. Thanks
You? LOL... At least you didn't do what I did. I put them on straight out of the box and they didn't come preloaded. I didnt even know about preload. Bruh my car handled like shit lol. I wore my front tires down and needed an alignment after putting the stock stuff back on. But now that I have them set it's just a matter of not being lazy and reinstalling them. My car you have to take out the back seat to get to the top of the housing.
Dude. Thank you 🙏.... I bought some K2's and threw them on straight out of the box thinking it would be fine. My car drove like shit and it threw off my alignment. So I took them off and put them in storage for 2 years and I watched your video the other day because I was ready to give them another go. I followed along with you, and I set my preload. My car rides like a dream bro. And I went to get an alignment done directly after. I will make my own video for my channel using the K2's I put on and I'll be sure to mention you if you are ok with that. I copied a link to the video and posted it in a FB group because another guy is basically trying to learn as well. Thanks bro.
Awsome helpful video.. just bought a set of Mono SS and tripped out that you don't lower the vehicle by the top perch. I was so used to Skunk2 coil sleeves lol.
Thank you man great video gonna save this video for when I order my coilovers . Gonna get some god speed coils for ek civic . Just for riding low not track
Mr_Robear long story short I put on some coils thinking that while adjusting the preload was lowing the car which i did but just realized i was also messing with the preload. Can I return preload to factory setting and also lower/ raise the car without taking the coilovers off?
I have a 2001 Honda Accord with a Spyder package and cold air intake Headers, dual exhaust. I just rebuilt the front end. I watched the wrong video. So I will readjust them the proper way thank you. Also I am 71 years young.
Good video man thanks I might have to do mine all over had someone else do it my car bounces like a rabbit now lol. I like it but figure it's not safe for the wife and kids.
Whats the maximum amount of height a person could safely adjust the "fork" or "knuckle". I've heard the full diameter of the tube your working with and also half of the tube diameter.
This helped alot lol I had bought some coilovers and he was saying adjust the ride height with the top perch. And it didnt make sense to me if the bottom fork or knuckle is adjustable. So pretty much the two bottom rings are locks right ?
I have fitted some coilovers to my car but the ride is very hard. No preload set. Spring compression is 20%. The dampeners are not adjustable. Can you give me some advice. Would the ride be improved by changing the springs to lower tension ones and or would the ride be better improved by changing the dampeners to adjustable ones?
ive heard from a race shop you want to hand tighten the collar up to the bottom of the spring. install the coilover, and set the car down. measure how far down the shock travels, and use that measurement for preload. (if your car travels 1 inch then use 1 inch of preload). have you heard anything like this before?
This is correct, but this would mean you would have to disconnect the bottom bolt every time you want to make an adjustment. The correct way is to turn the top collar to the left to lower and turn the bottom collar to the right to raise, of course you have to loosen the locking collar first to make adjustments.
Is this the proper way though? It eont affect the way it rides or anything or the way it sits? Im trying to install my first set of coilovers and having a hell of a time lol.
heyy i got the k1 by k tuned but my front end is sooo stiff yes i got it camber out and slame to the floor but the shit dose not wanna move when i jump on the hood it stays stiff plz help
Ok so I find that whenever I hit a pothole or bump at high speed I get a rear finder rub only on the passenger side side I add preload or reduce preload?
So I have a problem the spring on my coilover are loose it makes a hard sound when I drive. I don’t think the guy preloaded them. So how can I do this if the shocks are on the car?
I’m new to coilovers .do I have to reset the preload each time I raise or lower the car.i had someone adjust them for $250 and now I I’m going for a 265/45/r18 all around with spacers.and want to raid the up agin and he charging $150
250? Damn son. If you're able bodied, grab a nice aluminium jack and axle stands from Harbour Freight or something and do it yourself. There's a wealth of knowledge online if you run across any issues and could save yourself a small fortune in the future.
Preload is correct but Nobody ever sets their ride height by taking the lower mount off and spinning the whole tube. With the coil over fully installed you simply spin both of the upper lock collars at the same time. That will thread the entire unit in or out of the tube body. Then lock in the lower collar.
They came with a third. I have 2 extra in my kit amd was wondering where they came from. Im am going crazy trying to get a ride that doesnt feel like I am driving a coverwd wagon.
HELP. New edge mustang. A lot of coilovers come with legit front coilovers and for the rear it’s separate springs and struts. For the rear would I want to make my springs as high as I can? For better comfort. I’ve had mine installed for over a year now. When I first did it I did all my research to do it right. I was happy then but man the comfort part is catching up to me big time. Sucks to daily it. So should I raise springs then adjust struts to fit? Or what for comfort. Not gonna see track use again anytime soon
Preload should be set with the vehicle ready to race on the ground. Manufacturer should specify what SAG range it should be driven at. Anyone knows what should be the SAG in a car for road/track use? 20-30%?
I bought my friend's used coiler over kit, noticed the spring was loose on all four, should I adjust it so that the spring is nice and snug (not moving)? or was it from previously being ridden 3k+ miles and leave it alone?
Umm once the coil overs are installed it is impossible to turn the bottom part, you will have to turn the collars. So I guess his method of adjusting the height is you have to remove the whole coil over. What if you want to adjust the height a year later without having to remove the whole damn thing? You would have to use the top part
@@ter405 1: Unlock bottom small perch 2: Unbolt the bottom bolts from knuckle/ hub assembly 3: Remove coil-over from the bottom knuckle/ hub assembly 4: Spin the lower shock counter or clockwise to adjust height 5: Install back to knuckle/ hub assembly 6: Install bolts 7: Lock lower collar Not a hard concept at all. Too much work? Get lowering springs.
I have type 1's in the front of my Audi A3. I upgraded from 350in/lb to eibach 450's with 2" longer springs. My ride height is too high compared to my rears. What is the max i can add additional preload?
holy crap i tightened the springs alot so now i know i need to back them off that prob explaines the bouncy ride and the wobble front to back when i stop
@@Ghostsamuel did not work so i put the stock ones back on the front, im going to get 1" front spacers for the front from gorilla offroad car rides nice now but my spine goes through my chest when i hit a bump cause i still have the rear coilovers in. but thats fine i haul stuff with it so i can live without the sag
@@seanstewart6292 I just fixed mine yesterday my preload was way off so I readjusted the preload and got it right which surprised me but I have to take off the left one cause I ordered another mount the one I have is bad
@@Ghostsamuel my preload could be different because i put coilovers on it for a '10 forester, to lift it, so i think that's why i could not get it right because the spring is not for the Impreza its for a forester whitch has a different spring.
The pre-load will not affect the height. If you follow the video, it shows how to set pre-load first, then adjust height from bottom fork or knuckle. I hope that helps
the pre-load does not make a difference in how smooth or hard it will feel. It simply connects the spring and shock together so they can function as a whole unit. If pre-load is not done correctly, you will here popping and other noises when it is extended too much. I hope that makes sense.
Well 4-5 mm is for 200mm spring then you can assume that 150 would be 3-4 mm since 200 divided by 4 is 50 meaning that every 50 mm you gain you add a mm and if you havw on 50 mm shorter you subtract a mm
