How to set timer on Combi Boiler.
Gas Boiler Controls and Setting a pin time Clock.
In this simple to follow video I will show you;
Setting the clock on a Combi Boiler.
Setting the Timer on a Combi Boiler so the heating goes On and Off at the time you specify (basically How to auto set central heating clock timer using pins) .
I don't like the digital timers as they are prone to power spikes and can reset themselves frequently.
This video shows you all about the Grasslin mechanical central heating Combi Boiler timer although Setting a Pin time clock on a different manual clock will be the same.
Hopefully this video on how to set the timer on boiler has been helpful.

This is the Grasslin Timer setup.
Please be aware some of the new Grasslin Timers the switch is upside down so the OFF switch is the Up position and Permanently ON is in the down position. Why would they change it round for Set Heating Timing?

Thanks man, you saved my life, I'm at work and it's 1 AM and the maintenance guy won't answer me, the defrost heater in the refrigerated container won't go off, it has a similar timer to the one you showed in your video, and I was able to fix the problem after watching your video. THANKS

Great stuff. My boiler’s official support document said something along the lines of: Page 2 Timer: this is where the timer will be if you have it installed.

Very helpful, been in my house for nearly 3 years and still not learned how to use the timer, about to go away for three weeks in winter so I finally had to figure it out so that I don't get frozen pipes and an unhappy cat! Thought I'd be spending most of my Saturday struggling with this.

Great video. Ps. I don't see sense in switching the boiler off overnight. The room cools and one ends up coughing due to breathing cold air. Looks like personal pref. For daytime when I'm working, it does makes sense.. You're right. Definitely time for a cuppa. ☕🍩

Any advice when dial clearly not in line with black arrow marker. Moved the deal round multiple times, even just using the black hand and the time is just not lining up. Driving me mad needs to be reset somehow

Don't try to line it up, its a known issue, ours is the same and loads I've seen, it always seems to be about 20minutes out. Don't worry about it.

Hi , Thanks a lot, yes found it useful. Question: So during the ON hours, if the temperature reaches preset thermostat temperature then boiler will go Off , right? And during the off hours it would fire at all, no matter the temperature on thermostat.

Yes once it reaches temperature of thermostat the boiler should go off. In the hours it’s set to Off it will never ever come on for heating.

There should be a thermostat controller somewhere in the flat? If not then you can control temp with the front panel, link in description explaining what all the controls do.

If you use the 'always on' option that you mention, where is that thermostat that determines whether the heating should be on or off?

You might not have one. If not you control the heating on the actual boiler.

I am a student tenant and I am trying to figure out how to change the programme. I tried using the middle setting where you say is controlled by the clock, but that doesn't seem to work. Sorry if the questions are stupid, I have 0 knowledge about these things.

Is your pressure gauge working or? Seems a bit low on pressure. Whats the correct pressure (when off 1.8 bar when on 2.4?)

Hi, should this clock spin round and be telling the correct time at all times? Ive had someone out to look at my boiler who says that once you’ve set the time the clock shouldnt move. So if you set it to 9am at 9am it never moves from that position but he’s saying that the boiler keeps time internally without the clock on the outside moving

If I set the timer, will it affect my tap water? I was hoping I could set the timer for the heater, but keep the hot tap water running.

Setting the timer doesn’t affect hot water at all, a combi boiler will heat the water when you turn the hot tap on and you get flow rate, 24x7

Could just be a faulty clock\switch. Ours failed a few years ago and I put a new clock\timer in (quite easy and I made a video on it).

@@WeBeClubbin See if there are any instructions, you might have a room thermostat which is overriding the controls. If the clock is keeping time then it could be ok, might be a different setup to mine here.

@@LurgsHowToGuides unfortunately there aren't any instructions available to me. The clock is keeping time, however, for some reason (since Thursday morning) the timer has stopped working. At first I thought it was because it's been so cold so set it to start a bit earlier in the morning, but no joy.

@@WeBeClubbin oh dear. Make sure the pins aren’t the opposite way, believe it or not some are different and set the boiler on when the pins are the other way! At least you still have heating! Hope you get it sorted soon, all the best.

The boiler should be permanently on though so clock keeps time. Don’t switch boiler off

If it's a Combi boiler then it should fire up when you turn the hot tap on. The switch is purely for Central Heating only and does not affect hot water for the taps.

What do I do with the clock if I want to use a room thermostat to control the temperature? Should it be set to on? Where should the pins be?

It’s up to you. If you put clock timer on then the room thermostat will only for it up when the boiler timer is actually on. Else if you leave it permanently on you could then control it from the room thermostat but then you probably don’t want it coming on when you asleep

@@emiliekozak6688 I don’t think so. The Timer will override everything. Room thermostat will only work when timer is activated or ON. Boiler won’t fire up if Timer is in the Off position.

@@LurgsHowToGuides i went on that did not make much sense as my boiler has a timer on it! The hot water runs out quickly if you use it like if 2 people have shower then it runs out!!! Or after washing a load of dishes then it also runs out but i want the hot water coming all the time as i have a child who need hot water for his daily wash

Ayeshah Kayani Then that sounds like a system boiler where it heats up water and puts it in a hot water tank, as tank empties it can’t heat up quick enough. Hard to tell what system you have but I expect there is a power switch for the hot water tank so you can keep it hot. If it was a combi boiler the hot water never runs out as it’s constant.

Ayeshah Kayani There is no setting. A combi boiler supplies hot water constantly when hot tap is on. You’ll need to find out how your system is setup. Prob need a plumber. Good luck

Could be flow rate is not fast enough to light the boiler, could be a fault with the ignition that lights the gas, could be the temp is not set on the water. Why is my timer clock not going around? By boiler is only two months old I’m trying to set the timer I have followed you video but the hands are not moving ?

Is the boiler switched on at the Mains? There should be a switch somewhere. It's very unusual for a clock to stop working, especially if its that new.

Thanks for replying . Yes the boiler is switched on and works perfect but when I put the little switch to the middle (Timer mode) it doesn’t work😫 as in the black hands don’t go around but when I turn the dial by hand and it hits the time where the pins are pulled out it clicks the boiler on 🤔

Also on the glass panel it says Room stat or timer off even when I put the switch to the middle as in setting the timer mode is this normal?

@@gracecooper5414 I would almost definitely say that the manual clock is faulty. It should keep almost perfect time. Best contact the suppliers\installer and tell them the clock doesn't work. Could be a faulty clock or a loose wire on the clock connection at the back. Good luck and let me know how you get on.

The water works fine but the heating isn't coming on as the radiator aren't warming up, I've bleed the them but still nothing

Do you have a separate thermostat somewhere in a room? If heating control knob is on it should be heating but a thermostat would stop it

@@beardreview Put the heating knob to Max and turn heating on, if no joy you’ll need to call out a Heating Engineer I’m afraid. Odd you have hot water though as that means the boiler does work. Good luck.

Does it come on if Switch is set to 1 (Permanently On) ?

No looks like that doesn’t make a difference either. Our landlord set it up with a remote thermostat too so maybe the 2 are interfering somehow, will have to keep trying

@@charlottec3219 If switch is set to permanently On then you can control it on the thermostat, if you turn temperature up on thermostat it should fire up

I have one of these with no on-off switch. I just want to switch the f-ing water on for a shower and then off, I guess that's too much to ask.
