Country boy blues here been playing the same D-28 Martin since 1974 I play medium-strength on it learning how to play banjo from your videos what kind of string for my banjo
So, you are setting the far end (1st string end) of the bridge at the correct distance (13.5 for you) and moving the near end (5th string end) back "a little" toward the tailpiece? How much is "a little," and why
Thanks for the info, I didn't know I needed to cock the bridge! I got an Alvarez flattop. I took the resonator off because I felt it was too loud for playing clawhammer. Should I scoop the neck so I can play on the neck? Should I get a certain height of bridge to have an action more suited for clawhammer? When I listen to clawhammer recordings I don't feel like my banjo sounds anything like what I hear. Mine sounds way too metallic. How do you know how tight your head should be? Sorry lotsa questions!
Hey Clifton, I’m buying my first banjo right now and I’d really like to learn the song wild bill jones Odeon Charlie parts album “Rooster” I am subscribed on your Patreon and would gladly pay for a tab of this song. Thank you for your time.
You don’t need a tape measure! The octave harmonic (referred to here as ‘chime’) is what the string should sound like when actually fretted at the 12th fret. Adjust bridge until they match. Also, please tell us WHY the bridge should be slightly angled.
The check should be between fretted at 12 and and chimed at 12. Comparing the chime with the open string will sound correct no matter how wrong the bridge is placed.
