Ali Land I'm doing the same I feel so bad for my rat as I got her Friday and have never had one before and google only told me so much. While petsmart upsold me that and the breeder I got her from didn't mention that they sis better in 2s so here comes a bigger cage another rat and a Crap ton of toys. Thank god I found this video! My rats have been in a tank (which is horrible please don’t put rats in a tank) and now I’ve found them a big enough cage and now I know how to set it up as well.

I'd it a bit like that because they said their girls are older so just pit lots of ramps and ladders so they can get everywhere and hammoxjs incase they fall from yhe top.

I bought a super cute plastic hammock/hideaway that had a ramp attatched... both my ratties love it. But it's super cute how one never use the ramp and climb the bars of the cage, jump on top of it, then jump on the ramp and go in. Kinda different, but it is so cute when rats monkey bar the cage!! 😍😍

it's too bad rats ears don't keep growing like peoples do. old ratties with giant ears, so cute, lol. they've bred hairless rats, all fur types and colors, dumbo rats... now they need to make big-eared rats! oooooh my imagination is having a field day. bat-eared rats... brats... lol

I actually used bed slats from my old bed to make ramps for them, they arent steep, but very long, and they LOVE racing up and down them and to get everywhere. Easy to clean and safe for them to chew on as well :)

during the summer when it gets really hot I use a paint roller tin willed with cool water and frozen peas to help keep my 2 rats cool and something fun to play with as they pull the peas out of the water

I have a double critter nation for my 4 boys. I have one that is over two years old, so I did not remove any of the ladders, floors or levels, so he still has a lot of floor space if he has any difficulty climbing. There’s also multiple water and food sources on both floors just in case! I still find him in one of their sputniks at the very top pretty often, so I assume he’s still good!

My friend has 6 ratties; Storm, Sugar, Zuzu, Dusky, Frizzi, Spook, Gigi, and Meika. She makes "rat packs", which is basically a lettuce leaf that she filled with Orbux (whatever its called) food, and she slices up little carrot bits and sprinkles that on top. She uses a cooked spaghetti noodle to tie it shut and gives it to her rats as treats! And Dusky has a sweet spot, if you tickle her left front paw she'll kinda chatter her teeth which i heard was rat's way to purr.

Advice for people who bought a cage with small doors, remember, put all big toys that don't fit through the doors in FIRST! It is a pain to try to get them through later. Also, for those who are looking for a rat cage, I advise you look for one with LARGE doors.

Double Critter Nation cages are the best, and the only ones I think are really suitable for rats. A lot of people will get defensive at my saying this but anything smaller is really torture. Unless they are very old rats (who need a much more comfy cage than in this video) in which case, they mostly hang out on the bottom, and you can adjust the shelves to be closer together, making the ramps very shallow and easier to get up.

I don't have rats but I do have a helpful tip. If you choose to litter box train your rats its best to get corner boxes.

Your big investment will be their cage. For toys and stuff though, hit the dollar store and bust out some arts and crafts skills! It's mostly about avoiding the things that aren't safe, I'm finding. Anything else can be turned into a toy.

At what age are rats considered "older"? I have 2 girls that are just about 2 years old. Should I be redesigning my cage to be more 'easy access'?

+Daka W it really depends on how capable your rats are of getting around. I have a couple of girls who can't climb as easily anymo, and one who suffered a minor stroke a few months ago and lost a bit of mobility, so she can't climb at all aside from the ladders. If your rats can move around just fine, no need to change anything :)

thank you so much for this video... i have to re-haul my cage for my boys. i dont have much in there because i thought more room would be better, and i dont have the wire floor covered (so it gets MATTED with fleece constantly!) really, thanks for these amazing tips! i'll take a before and after (I had to throw out their box/hammock recently so its even more barren than normal right now ^^')

This was so helpful... I will (hopefully) be getting 2 boys in a few months and I have money for the critternation... I was piling up stuff in a wishlist wondering how the heck I was going to organise the cage... you saying thet a degree of clutter is good made me happy as I will have a fair few things to fit in... I also now have the cozy-fun scale to help with layout... thanks again and wish me luck on asking my dad for rats (my mum said yes if my dad says its ok) :)

I would just like to say thank you for your very informative videos. I had a rat a few years ago and had no idea on how to take good care of her. I feel horrible now looking bad at her cage and what I feed her. I had NOOO idea what was I was doing. I was a bad rat mom, but I just bought a nice sized cage. And now that’s I’m older I looked up good videos to watch and be a better mom. I’ve watched at least four of your videos and I’m ready to buy my next rats now. Thank you soooo much for the advice. His books are a fun read, that and his philosophy was pretty spot on. I used to own the Satanic Bible, Satanic Witch and the Satanic Rituals, all were a good read. What I got out of it was that it was basically atheism with some ritual magick sprinkled in for fun and good measure. I do believe rituals are good for focusing your goals and intentions. btw, your rat video series are amazing, I've never seen anyone put so much work into rat videos. The graphics you work into your vids are top notch, very professional grade. You ARE the patron rat saint.

My neighbour has two rats they live in a big good cadge he doesn’t feed his rats vegetables often he only feeds them vegetables once a mouth his rats have bad respiratory issues because their parents smoke and the poor things are sneezing and coughing he won’t listen to me that they have respiratory issues what should I do I’m worried for their health okay so I ended up telling him all about this stuff at first he didn’t belive me I kept asking my mom if I could have them because I loved them so much and visited them all the time they ended up giving the two away to another owner. I hope the rats are happy there anyway thank you everyone for your suggestions

The weird side of RU-vid Hi Id beg to differ because there’s a really good no kill small animals only shelter in my area. They have many fosters and people who care and know lots about the animals they foster. I wish everywhere had small animal only shelters like rattietattie rescue in Ohio.

I've invested in a "critter nation" cage and, oh boy.......it does everything that it says on the tin! i urge each and every rat lover to save up your money and try this for yourself....i promise it's good...it is AWESOME! I'ts expensive, but trust me and the rat guru: It's worth every pound! I've had a stroke and am on JSA but the benefits are exceeding my losses.....i.e there are no losses! peace and love and rattie kisses x

nice cages. i made an awesome hangout for my chewie too. i made it out of a regular 100$ three level cage complete with hammocks,two water bottle sections blankets and wooden houses i made myself. also additional platforms from an old hamster house i used too own.
