Great video! I love your content very helpful for newbies. 🙂👍👍👍 A couple of items you might want to add to a future video: 1) Tell newbies to always pull the 7-way plug by the plug and not the cable. 2) Remember to lubricate your stabilizing jack screws. One question I have is should you put a backflow preventer on the flush-out hose at the y valve? I know that may be overkill, but, I would worry you might get some septic back flow when the hose is operating. Just a thought. Thank you for doing these videos.
@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping Год назад
One could put a back flow preventer, but honestly it is most likely overkill. I personally only connect the garden hose to the flush out fitting when dumping the tank and I turn off the valve at the 'Y' and/or completely disconnect the potable water hose to the trailer when flushing out the black/grey tank. There is also a control valve on the clear flush out fitting that is closed after a jet of water is forced into the black/grey tank as well prior to the tank's contents draining to the sewer. The important thing I see people doing wrong (which could truly cause personal health issues) is using their potable water hose to flush out a black/grey tank. One should never use the same hose for supplying drinking water to their trailer/RV for cleaning tanks, washing the RV, etc. Thank you for watching!

If the site looks good and we back in, the first thing we do is check the utilities. I there is no water or electric or the pedestal is wired wrong we contact the manager. If we have to move to another site we won't have to hitch up again. Learned this from experience. Here are my 10 steps to set up our trailer 1. Pull up to the site and look it over before pulling in. Look for overhead branches and debris on the ground, anything that would keep from pulling in. 2, Pull/back into site, check that the utilities work and will reach. Check that the water flows and the pedestal is wired correctly. Spray water faucet with Lysol. Look at sewer hook up for anything unusual. Go no Go. If all above checks out proceed, If not contact campground office to correct problem or get new site. 3. Level trailer side to side and see that steps clear. 4. Chock wheels. 5. Unhook trailer from Tow Vehicle. 6. Level front to back. 7. Stabilizer jacks down. The rest in any order. 8. Connect water, electric, sewer, cable TV, if applicable. 9. Chairs, awning, table. 10. Cold beverage.
@CouchPotatoCamping

Other than the Lysol, we do the same! Nitrile gloves are our choice for the public hookup handles. The cold drink is a must after hooking up! 🧊 😁

Nice video and a good refresher if it’s been a bit between trips. One thing I noticed was your safety chins being held with a cable tie. I have always simply twisted the chains to take up a little slack so they don’t drag (don’t twist and take too much slack to prevent the ability to turn). Saves the trouble of using cable ties and works with any trailer or tow vehicle hitch height.

I’ve never seen some one zip tie he chains up like that typically people just twist the chain to length
@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping 11 месяцев назад
I took the slack out of the chains in that manner since a trusted individual stated (who tows commercial trailers thousands of miles a year) that I should never twist the chains to reduce the slack. It can overtime damage the links and if the hitch breaks loose twisted chains may not properly function. Since that video I purchased a chain slack collar to use when towing. All this said, the last time I rented and towed a Uhaul trailer, they twisted the chains to reduce the slack. 🤷‍♂️

Does it matter where you put the water regulator, meaning right off of the spigot or closer to the trailer? Do you need a LEGO block under your stabilizer on soft or gravel sites? Is there a “hose” connection on the camp side of the trailer? Do you use it for anything?? I am just curious we pick up our Dusk in a few weeks and you are the only video I have found that has a horizon setting up process. Trying to start a how to list or step by step list and assign duties so there is less arguing. I am having trouble understanding the whole leveling process so I know that will not be my job😂😂. I will be watching other videos for help with storage and other stuff. Do you have a PDF of how to set up? That would be helpful or I am going to rewatch and write each step down to make sure I do not miss anything.
@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping 2 месяца назад
Thank you for watching! Here's our comments to your questions: 1. We typically place the water pressure regulator near the source-side of the water spigot and hose. 2. If the RV parking spot or site is on soft ground, such as sand, etc. then we will place one leveling block under each stabilizer to help distribute the load. 3. RV potable water hose connections and fresh water fills are typically on the driver's side of most RV's, though we've seen and toured a few that have these connections on the passenger side of the RV. It will vary by RV manufacturer. Often, RV's have fresh water hose connections on the passenger (camp side) of the RV like the InTech Sol Horizon to wash gear off, hose down dirty pets, etc. I've only used ours once or twice. 4. Currently, we don't have a PDF with a set up checklist - we felt the video format could provide more detail and explanation. However, on our website we do have a first-timer essential RV gear guide: couchpotatocamping.com/essential-rv-gear-for-new-rvers/

@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping Год назад
Congratulations! Multi-fuel refrigerators can run quite some time (days) on propane - they typically are more efficient running on propane rather than the 12v house batteries. We never tested ours to see it’s full timeframe on just propane, since we don’t boondock much. We typically only ran our refrigerator on propane on travel days or the few days we boondocked-we rarely boondocked more than 3 consecutive days. All other times our refrigerator was set to run off shore power when we had electric (120v) hookups at campgrounds. Thank you for watching!!!

Thank you for this very informative video. I have a question regarding the portable freezer/frig chest that is stored next to the grill. When I am on the road and have the 'power' set to propane the chest does not stay cold. Any suggestions to what I might be doing wrong would be very helpful. Thank you!
@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping Год назад
So the portable cooler/freezer next to the slide out grill will work going down the road only if you have the cooler/freezer plugged into the provided 12 Volt outlet in that storage bay. When traveling, and when your RV is not hooked up to shore power, the cooler/freezer will need to run on your RV's 12 Volt system which essentially is pulling power from your RV's house battery. Once you reach your destination - and you're done traveling for the day - you will want to make sure your cooler/freezer is pulling power via its provided 110 Volt power cord that should be connected to the 110 Volt outlet within that storage bay. Your cooler/freezer should have come with both a 12 Volt power cord and a 110 Volt power cord to support these two power sources. If your cooler/freezer is set up properly, it should automatically switch between the 12 Volt and 110 Volt power sources when your shore power is either connected and/or disconnected. The RV's propane will only keep your RV's refrigerator (inside the trailer) cold on travel days - when your RV is not connected to shore power. No propane is fed to your portable cooler/freezer to keep it cold, since it is an all-electric device. The RV's propane system only connects to the following devices on the Sol Horizon: interior refrigerator, hot water heater, interior cooktop, exterior griddle (if your model was provided with one), and the exterior propane quick connect (directly under the slide out griddle & cooler/freezer storage bay). Hope this helps clarify. Let us know if you have any more questions! Safe travels!

How well does your F-150 tow the Horizon? Where any modifications necessary? Would you recommend a 3/4 ton as a better choice?
@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping 2 года назад
Hey! My F-150 towed the Sol Horizon quite well. No additional truck modifications were required since mine came with the factory tow package. I chose not to use a load distribution hitch or any sway control as - after several shake down trips - I felt it was not required. The only major sway I've encountered was out west with 40 mph cross-winds - even sway control wouldn't comletely eliminate sway in those conditions. Most of the time, I hardly knew the Horizon was back there when towing. I don't believe a 3/4 ton truck is required, seems overkill for the lightweight Sol Horizon. My max tongue weight on our setup was roughly 560 lbs. and our max trailer weight has been in the 3,800 lbs range when we had it fully stocked starting out on a 30 day trip out west.
@K-A-RVing
@K-A-RVing 7 месяцев назад
What is your truck fuel mileage like towing the Intech?
@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping 7 месяцев назад
I was getting about 10 - 12 MPG with about 350+/- miles on a full tank. To give some background on my truck. It has a 36 gallon tank with the EcoBoost V6. Under non towing conditions I can get 600 miles on a full tank at about 22 - 23 MPG. The 10 - 12 MPG with roughly 350 mile range while towing held true on our first travel trailer (33' long) and was about the same when we towed our InTech Sol Horizon (which surprised me as I thought it would be better with a shorter and lighter travel trailer). Of course, road conditions, terrain, elevation above sea level, outside temperature, etc, etc. will greatly affect your MPG when towing. All of this is based on us towing both of our travel trailers across country out west multiple times.

We are in the market and saw an Intech Horizon at the Hershey RV show. We absolutely loved it! I’ve been binge watching your channel and taking detailed notes. My question is about the Valterra flush attachment and the split water hose attachment. When I rented an RV a few years back I thought the owner told me I couldn’t use the campground spigot to flush out the tank. We ended up just dumping a ton of water in the toilet to “clean” it out. Is using a split water spigot the key here? Also, how does the Valterra attachment work exactly? When you’re dumping it looks like the waste is hitting the tip of the water port in the clear fitting and that blue non potable hose goes back to the spigot. Is there any change of contamination back to the spigot? Thanks so much for these videos! They are truly fantastic! Safe travels!

Thank you for your video. I alway watch video and your vlog site......If you dont mind, I have two questions. 1) deciding Sol Horizon vs. Tab 400? what do you think which one do you think better 2) If I have a deal intech sol horizon with Rover package and fully loaded ( brand new), for exact $40k, Am I having a good deal? Thank you in advance
@CouchPotatoCamping
@CouchPotatoCamping 2 года назад
Here's our thoughts: 1) We've toured the Tab 400's several times and appreciate their compactness and the build quality of NuCamp trailers in general. We believe the build quality of NuCamps exceed most other travel trailer brands. For us, the Tabs were a little too compact - even though we wanted a smaller travel trailer - we felt they were a little tight for us (Daniel is 6 feet tall). We went with the InTech Sol Horizon because it gave us the build quality we wanted and the relatively small form factor we wanted so we could be more nimble. I'm not sure one is better than the other, for us it was the additional interior cubic feet of space (head height, etc.) that lead us to the Sol Horizon. 2) $40k for a brand new fully loaded Sol Horizon Rover is falling in line with the prices we are seeing. Some are going for $43k or more, but some of that is market area/market segment determining that price (which is prevalent for all RV's). Thank you for the questions and viewing of our website and channel!

Also, this is one more question for your husband, it seems to me he knows a lot of the technical side of campers, haha. I am considering installing the dry toilet. Since I do not like the idea of black/gray water combine dump for Horizon. I am curious about how he thinks about installing dry toilet- Not sure how hard to install myself..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RIQnIbW8vA4.html

To be transparent, we've never used or owned a dry/composting toilet. So, we may not be the best source for that particular question. One thing you will need to consider if you remove the flush toilet from your Horizon, be mindful the floor of the bathroom is the shower pan as well. So take into consideration that you will need to adequately seal the flush toilet opening and any anchoring points for a dry/composting toilet to avoid water intrusion below your shower pan/bathroom floor. Thank you for the kinds words about our channel and website! Much appreciated!!
