By far the best tutorial on setting up and balancing the cv1 and Gimble. The only issue I had was it was upside down or something. I did have to watch like 6 of these types of videos to get this to work.

@@dbvares8745 My ZV1 arrives tomorrow will see how I go! I actually also got the vertical mounting plate for the gimbal because I mainly do vertical video. Hopefully I can adapt the method to balance it ok using the plate and the camera orientated differently. Maybe an idea for future post(s) might be vertical video tips, gear and guides.

This helped me MORE then the other videos that showed how to balance and once I realized it wasn't balanced on the top or the red one it was a QUICK adjustment and I was Able to correct and NOW I can do the vortex mode W/O the motor acting strange, Thanks. The Last part though with the whole parallel part I had to stop and look at the pic but once I went back and looked at it. Simple. The best video on setting up the M2 with the ZV-1. Unfortunately I am sending the M2 back. The marker pin on mine refuses to budge, and there is a small 'catch' in the arm with the black and gold screw, making it impossible to balance with the Ulanzi wide lens attached.

Thanks David - can you replace a battery without having to re-balance. If not can a quick release be added - and whats the filter on the lens in this video.
Hey Mark, a good Q; it’s not possible to swap batteries without removing the zv1; however with the correct cable it’s possible to plug the gimbal into the zv1 to provide usb power. I haven’t tested this to exhaustion but it will comfortably extend shooting time well beyond just the on board battery. I don’t have a quick release but I know other commenters have used that setup so I think it’s definitely possible. As for filter thread; there’s no lens attachment on the zv1 here but there is an adapter which allows 52mm lens attachments. I have one sold by a company called Profezzion but some accessories lol the Ulanzi wide angle lens come with that same kind of adapter included
great video - I see the Ulanzi lens will work but I also bought a uurig so I can get to the battery door. The plate on this rig looks like it covers the battery which I assume is a pain when the battery goes - did you get around this somehow
Hey GG; firstly excellent name - fully approve 😂 Secondly, you’re right about the plate obstructing the battery, however it is possible to plug the gimbal into then zv1 to directly provide usb power. I’ve not tested to exhaustion but using that approach I’ve never had battery run out while shooting and it easily extends shooting time beyond the on board battery. This video and some of your other videos have been most helpful. I purchased a sony metal plate and it is quite heavy and bulky. Do you think it is safe to use with this gimbal or should I detach it?
Hey MA, you can balance the gimbal while using extra attachments and things but it depends on the total weight (the Zhiyun has a limit of 720g) and the centre of gravity when everything is attached (you need to be able to balance your setup facing upwards like in the video). If both of those points are ok then there’s a good chance it will work, though I’d recommend also setting the gimbal motor strength to high. DB Vares, I’m looking to get this camera at some point, it looks amazing! I bet with the gimbal you could turn off stabilization to avoid the cropping and capture nice video in low light. I also have the M2 crane and These tips help with balancing any camera. Thanks again!
No problem happy to help and I do really like and recommend the camera:) There’s a low light test on the channel too if you’d like a sense of performance-it’s pretty good for such a small camera. Any you’re right on stabilisation, the gimbal does a great job but you can leave standard steadyshot on anyway, only active crops in. Combined with stabilisation in post you can really get super smooth since you can shoot up to 120fps. Amazing for such a little cam:)
It’s actually a little adapter that allows you to attach things like a variable ND, wide angle lens, little macro adapters, so it doesn’t come in the box but can be found for £15 or so on amazon. I’m looking to do a video on how to expand the camera capability inexpensively that way - would something like that be handy?

Hey Stormy, you can balance the camera further away from the motor to leave more space on that side so all the ports are accessible. I’ve done that before to use the charging cable and mic while on the gimbal. All the same principles of balancing in the vid apply but you either use the mounting plate hole designed for larger cameras or fix the mounting late position slightly further away until you have the access you need. So I'ye been balancing my zv-1 withe the camera facing level ,not up. Is this why the gimbal clashes against its self. Also I miss the paring part Why is it that when I power off I have reconnect again? Thanks.

Quick question. When my Sony zv1 ( thanks love it, bought from watching your you tubes) the function sunny weather on the monitor becomes disabled. Any ideas? can t see the monitor outdoors. THANKS

I got an email notification of a comment you made where you got stuck on one of the steps but now I can’t see that to reply to so is this the edited version? 😆 Just in case there’s still any trouble: It’s the ZV where you find the ‘Ctrl with smartphone’ option; it’s on the third menu section of the ZV1 (icon is green with a circle and lines crossing it), from there you should be able to get the other steps working. When I got my zv1 about 5-6 months back I don’t think the crane m2 had firmware support to control the camera so I used manual control or the smartphone remote control (the latter being convenient if you don’t want to touch the camera!). When I control with the gimbal via WIFI I lose face detect, has anyone figured out how to play with settings to get this working? response from Sony below. 4k output select is disabled when I connect to the gimbal it seems. With reference to your enquiry regarding your Sony ZV-1, kindly be advised that You cannot use the face/eye detection function with the following functions: -Zoom functions other than the optical zoom. -[Sweep Panorama] -[Posterization] under [Picture Effect] -Focus Magnifier -When [Scene Selection] is set to [Landscape], [Night Scene], or [Sunset] -Movie shooting with [Record Setting] set to [120p]/[100p] -When shooting with a high frame rate. -When [File Format] is set to [XAVC S 4K], [Record Setting] is set to [30p 100M]/[25p 100M] or [30p 60M]/[25p 60M], and [4K Output Select] is set to [Memory Card+HDMI] -When [File Format] is set to [XAVC S 4K] and [Proxy Recording] is set to [On]
Hey sorry for the delay getting back to you and thanks for watching:) I might make a video to demonstrate how to connect but the short version is: First, make sure you have the Zhiyun gimbal updated to the latest firmware. You can get the software and driver needed to do this plus the firmware update from the Zhiyun website, current link is: www.zhiyun-tech.com/cranem2/en?from=download Next connect the gimbal to the ZY Play app on your smartphone. Within the app choose the Crane M2 as your device then, connect now and choose the Crane M2 which pops up, then select 'enter now'. You'll get an option to select device type - choose 'camera'. then 'enter now'. On the ZV1 go to the menu, tab 3, page 1, and choose 'Ctrl w/Smartphone' then choose 'connection' and the ZV1 will show a QR code. In the ZY Play app on your phone press the wifi symbol in the top right and then choose 'scan the QR code to connect'. Scan the QR code on the ZV1 screen and you should now be connected. The app should automatically recognise the camera brand as Sony. You can now do basic controls, like recording, stopping etc from the gimbal :) Once you've connected once the ZV1 should be stored in the Wifi list that pops up in the ZY Play app to make the process faster, but it can be inconsistent so you can rescan the QR code if needed. Hey Raymund, it sounds like the gimbal either isn’t balanced (and this kind of reaction is what you get if turning the gimbal on with no camera attached for example) or you might have the axis lock on (the little red switch near where the top of the handle). Hey Gamma, that’s right. If you can get your ZV1 balanced with the lens facing straight up toward the ceiling and then power on you’ll get the gimbal working smoothly every time in my experience. Also be sure to balance with how you intend to use the screen (either tucked in or flipped out) before powering on to avoid any need to readjust later. Hi Dave, I love your videos, even though English is not my first language, I can understand them quite well and they help me with the ZV-1. I have now got the Zhiyun Crane M2 and will receive it in a few days. I'm curious to see if it works with my setup, as I'm using a case from SmallRig and the Ulanzi wide angle adapter. This will bring me to 535gr. I have seen that there is an Arca Quick Release Clamp from SmallRig. Do you know it (DPC2508) or what is your opinion about it? Greetings from Germany. Axel
Guten tag Axel:) wie gehts? Trust me your English is way better than I speak anything else so much respect 😂 As for the setup - I know 100% that you can balance the ZV-1 and Ulanzi on the Zhiyun. I’ve also balanced setups much closer to the 720g gimbal limit including lighter lenses on the a6400 and a7c, the total weight should be workable too. The only other question, which I can’t be sure of without having all the case and plate things, is weight distribution. I strongly suspect it will all work and balance - I know another commenter has mentioned using the release plate successfully with the Zhiyun. So I can’t be certain but I think there’s a very good chance that will work fine - you’ll just need to go through the fiddly process of balancing but that’s always required 😂 Hope that helps, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 👍

The whole setup is too top heavy and the handle is too short/small for me personally. It goes back to the shop. I have now decided on the Feiyu Tech AK2000S, it feels more stable and secure, also in connection with the 2nd handle. Greetings Axel I already left a subscription there weeks ago 😉😉
Ok wow. I only just added the Crane to my kit and this does not help at all with a camera with a cage, micro and additional wide angle lens. everything is at extremes and it simply does not even give you the option to balance so perfectly.

Hey Ben, I use the smaller one. Haven’t tried the bigger one but it’s a sensible thought; you’d need to balance all the axes as usual but it could allow you to get further back so that might work. Fingers crossed and hope you get to the solution:)

I really love my ZV1 and I think it’s a great camera with a few drawbacks that you can work around with little hacks (like in some of my vids). I’ll do a detailed review soon now I’ve been using it as my main camera for around 3 month so I’ll think and set out my full impressions but let me know if you have specific questions:)
Hey RS, you’re right - there’s definitely a learning curve doing this stuff initially. However it becomes very quick after a couple of times: balancing takes me about 60-90 seconds now, less if you keep the same camera setup as you can just keep the axes locked in position. The process doesn’t really change with the bigger and more expensive gimbals I have- it’s unfortunately a ‘gimbal thing’ more broadly to sort the balancing. If you want a super easy setup then smartphone gimbals are a lot more straightforward, but you compromise the quality and capability you’d get with a dedicated camera.
