Good video. Nice to have someone being helpful and talking through what they're doing, rather than having wanky background music and leaving you to suss out what they're doing from their actions - nicely done.
Quick tip, just use antifreeze, exactly same as pump armour, and can get 5lts for 20quid, used it for years in my impact 440 and airlessco's, can run it through those then stops any freezing issues over winter as well
Nice video mate, am looking into getting one of these. Great top tip on the wear down when using the tip in reverse to clear tip. Not heard anyone mention that yet.
Nice one, had one of these for ages but never used it more than twice, ball ache to clean it out....until I saw this video again !!!! been used on every job I do know, the finish is excellent takes me a few minutes to do what took me ages, your right about there's a fair bit to remember, but its not rocket science and takes 5 mins yo clean it, just need more dust sheets !! Great Video 👍
Great vid. Just got the gx21.. wanting to know more about the gun filters you get in the gx range and pressure needed from lpff tips. Only doing misting coating while I learn. And lots of practice in my garage. Thanks.
Good video thanks. What I'm wondering is how long you can leave the machine idle with (water based) paint in the gun and the system? while you have lunch, overnight, couple of days? If you were going to leave it a while what precautions would you take, maybe wrap the gun up, leave it in a bucket of water? Thanks
Hi, i personally dont leave material in the pump any longer than the shift im working....ive heard others doing so, but i wouldnt recommend it tbh....i always flush the material out after each use, and if i have to wait a few hours inbetween drying times...i just remove the guard and tip , and cover the gun . Cheers, Joe
Hi Joe, good vids mate. Can you do a video on how to approach spraying a new build house start to finish from mist coat to completing skirts, arc and frames etc spray finish? Also on bare plaster how many complete coats do you need once it is mist coated? Is it just 2 passes at 90 degrees to each other as per mist coat?
Hi, I personally would not use an airless for cabinetry spraying... Only if it was air assisted. I would most likely use a hvlp stage 5, or a decent compressor set up in a workshop. If I had to use an airless, it would be with a 310 tip mostly. The reason for not using standard airless is to reduce the amount of overspray /waste, and the fact it is too fast and has less control in tight spaces. All the best, Joe
I personally wouldn't run anything other than water based through an airless unit. I would use conventional hvlp/lvlp or a turbine hvlp due to them being easier to clean
Just bought one and noticed you didn’t mention the filter, not the gun filter but the filter inside where you attach the hose by the pressure gauge. Do you use that filter or just leave it out? It’s not convenient to get to, also I wondered if it might cause stress on that small pump motor to push paint through that filter and the gun filter properly..maintaining proper pressure.
Tbh ive only ever replaced that once( a wjile ago now and it is awkward), and the gun filter not so many times but i don't spray on a weekly basis. Not having a manifold attached like bigger models does effect the max pressure slightly apparently, and does mean there is little more chance of tip blockages. You can actually have a manifold fitted to this sprayer.
@@JoeProDecor I also asked Sprayaholic, who uses it a lot, and he says he just leaves that manifold filter out. I agree and will rely on straining the paint and the gun filter.
Joe I’m in the market for a sprayer to do walls and ceilings which one would you recommend the FF or the 21 the GX FF is marketed as ideal for trim and doors but I see you doing walls so would the GX21 be better for me
The gx21 is better suited to spraying larger area's (over anything that takes more than 5 litres really as the hopper on the gxff means refilling more often compared to working straight out of a 10 or 15 litre tub when spraying emulsion. Tbh... I have the tubs lined up and simply pour into the hopper as and when... And because the gxff is ideal for Woodwork ect... It's the perfect pump for me. They both do the same job so it's just whether you prefer to fill the hopper or work straight from a tub.
JoeProDecor cheers Joe based on your info I’ll go with the gfxx I just like the hopper thanks again for replying and keep them vids coming I love them. Go easy buddy 👍🏻
I've always been told that it's not safe to spray solvent through an airless so I've never done it tbh... Hvlp & compressor set up no problem... But I've not attempted with airless.
Hi Andy, it is fantastic for professional work... Its just not up to day in, day out use tbh. It sprays most emulsions without trouble although I do usually have to thin slightly for masonry paint just to avoid putting too much strain on it. I don't spray that often so it's perfect for me on the odd refurb job, or large domestic. You might want to consider the gx21ff if you plan on spraying emulsion more than trim paints Cheers, Joe
If you are doing new builds, or spraying on a regular basis, I recommend the graco 390 classic as a, starting point. The bigger the pump, the less stress there is on the pump.... Its a bit like a car engine really.
Mate your vid saved me haha didnt have a clue how to clean it. What filter would you use in the gun if your spraying zinser bullseye 123? 60 mesh or 100? Only 2 i've got mate
Not sure about tile paint, but it can spray masonry paint thinned a little. I wouldnt recommend this for spraying masonry though as it will put it under more strain. I would go with a bigger pump.
Hi Andy, I will do one next time we have a spray job, but we dont actually do many spray jobs compared to brush and roller. But tbh, it's not too different from this video when setting up. The line has to be ran through to clear the lubricant from the factory in the same way you clean it after use. Many thanks, Joe
Great informative video Joe. My question is, have you sprayed water based (not acrylic) undercoat, gloss or satin with your machine and how successful was it? Thanks.
Yes very successful, and requires little or no thinning like hvlp or xvlp.....but.....the only downfall is generally more overspray/waste, and you have to be alot faster with your technique to avoid too much going on and causing runs. The only paints I have had issues with are hybrids as they tend to cause tip blockages. This is also more likely with these paints on this particular pump because there is no manifold filter. Thanks, and all the best, Joe
Great video , I just bought one . Where do I get graco armour from mate ? How do I know which tips are finer finish etc ? All the ff numbers are mind boggling 😂😂😂😂
I'd say always worth the extra for a bigger pump if you are going to use it more often. But this gxff is fantastic for the money. Occasional use and very versatile
No as far as i know, they are all that loud. The bigger units msy well be louder in fact. Ive used the bigger graco 795 unit and that was at least the same, or louder.
The 390 is more expensive becsuse it has a bigger pump, and a built on manifold filter. The bigger pumps can produce more pressure resulting in being able to spray thicker material, or work less vigorously to spray the same thickness material. A bigger pump will be under less srain meaning it can last longer and run more continously. Having a manifold filter means it will minimise the risk of getting tip blockages.
Great video and thanks for posting ! Do you use as much White Spirit/Turps cleaning out oil paint ? and do you reuse most or all of your spirits ? I'm thinking of getting one of these for both oil and water based for woodwork, thanks again
Hi there , I only use airless for water based paints as there are health and safety risks when using oil....somethinvvto do with the pump having to be earthed. Thank you for your comment 👍
@@JoeProDecor thanks for the reply Joe, much appreciated,I didn't know that, I'll check it out further cheers 👍 P.s would love to see you doing woodwork with it at some stage
Hi there, yes I have...you have to be really quick with an airless...but works really well with experience. It's best to use a smaller tip on spindles like a 108/110...then go onto a 208/210 when you get used to it. But I used a fussy bloke 4 inch sleeve on these and layed off as benjamin moore scuff x flattens off really quickly
Sometimes in domestic properties, it's more hassle than it's worth spraying...especially when the clients are in the property as all the doorways need masking off. Plus you have to consider how much more paint you will need when spraying, and benjamin moore is very expensive as it is
@@JoeProDecor hi mate, Cheers yes I've sprayed woodwork finish before when I leaved in Canada, but it's years ago , so out of pactice, but sure be fine getting back to it, I'm going to use it on site, and run electricity cable to the sprayer instead or the 110 V which should have.
