Hi Wendy, do I need to set up a page within my facebook account? The reason why I ask, is because I do not see messaging under settings in my facebook account? What I'm I missing? There is no such setting even with messenger settings either!
@@markschrader7869 Yes a page or I believe even a group would work (although I may be wrong on that last part). They set it up for business use, so you can't do it from a personal account for example. It has to be from a page so the message is delivered from the page and not an individual.
I believe that is correct, that it only works on desktop. I know there is a "Pages Manager" app that Facebook puts out, but I'm honestly not sure if you can manage the automated responses from within that app or not. But I know you can't from the regular app.
Hi Wendy! How do you setup/customize the feauture that shows the quick response questions in messenger? For example, if I clicked to send you a message, a series of questions auto populates or I can add my own question if my question is not listed?
So those I am fairly certain are run by a third party company like ChatBot. I don't believe polling or interactive questions are available straight out of the box through Facebook alone: www.chatbot.com/help/integrations/facebook-messenger-bot or just www.chatbot.com/
Nothing is more frustrating than following steps only to find you don't have the same page set up. I DO NOY have a response assistant. I have watched 5 videos, and hundreds for other applications, and as usual, MINE IS DIFFERENT....argh!

Well the easiest way would be to ask your Facebook friends to try it out and let you know what they see. Just post a link to your profile feed and ask friends if they could screen shot whatever they see and send it to you either in the comments or in a private message.

Oh no worries! It's called Camtasia. There's a newer version of it out, but I am using Version 9. It suits my needs so I haven't made the jump to the new version so I can't speak to that one, but 9 has been awesome doing basic effects without a lot of fanfare. :)
I don't know if you're still reading comments, Wendy, but I ran into a problem trying to do a school assignment. I tried to create a set of automated answers for frequently asked questions and it did work, until it didn't. I followed the steps provided and it did in fact work. But right now, for some odd reason, it doesn't. Do you know anything about this? Facebook won't help and I'm nearing a deadline. Thanks in advance!
My gut instinct would be to wait and see... because... Facebook... but since you're near a deadline I would double check and do the equivalent of making sure it's "plugged in." Check to make sure everything is toggled on that should be, and if it is - turn everything off. Navigate away, navigate back, or do a hard refresh to force a fresh load of the page, and then turn it back on and see if that gets it going again. Facebook is always, always updating, and it's possible you got caught in a glitch and just have to remind it to work. Hey Wendy! Thanks for the video. This was very helpful. I'm still having issues with one thing and wanted to know if you've experienced the same thing. Like you said though, it could just be a Facebook glitch right now. My "instant reply" keeps repeating itself even after the first message has been sent. I was in the middle of corresponding with someone and they received my instant reply again. I'm thinking it's because the other person replied to me the next day so maybe if its been 24 hours then it will resend the instant reply. Anyways, just wondering if you have come across any issues with this. Thanks again!
Hey Elizabeth! While I haven't experienced that exact scenario, I have seen it where it repeats. I chalked it up to FB having a glitch like you said within messenger. There are actually a lot of reports of messenger getting confused and resending messages automatically, but the most common one seems to be with an issue with Android settings and regular messenger conversations - not via auto chatbots. So I guess it's possible whoever you were talking with opened it one way and then with Android, which prompted it to goof not realizing it was an existing conversation? It's just a theory, but that's what was happening on the standard messenger side awhile back.
Hi Wendy, thanks for your video! I have a problem concerning Automated Responses: when I edit it and click on preview it works, then I save it, Facebook shows me the general message and not the one that I had written ! I am confused, I don't know why... I would like to know if you have any clue concerning the opening of the messenger window when someone opens our page. I have configured the welcome message but the window didn't open. (the visitor need to click on send message to see it). One last thing, I want this welcome message adapted to the visitor language (It will I think be linked to which Facebook language account is), I know it's possible but I can't find any pieces of information on internet about that. That's interesting. Well, I have a few guesses. 1) Facebook could be having trouble and you just need to try back later, because that does happen sometimes, 2) You're not the top admin with all the permissions, or 3) you need to try to access it from a different device. Like if you're on a mobile phone, try on your computer. I have found that the method you use to access some settings changes both where the settings are located on Facebook and if they even show up. Hi Wendy thanks for the video. I have set up my automatic responses and been testing them on my laptop and my mobile. I have found that on my phone I am not getting all of the options of the menu, I am on my laptop. Do you have any idea why this might be? I can send you my messenger link so you can try it yourself.
Oh yeah the mobile app is different. Why? Who knows why Facebook did that. I'm sure there's some technically valid reason, but it is different and it's weird that it is. I tend to recommend people set it up on the desktop (laptop) version, usually via Chrome, for the least amount of hassle in setting it up. But you're right, they did make it different.
Hi Wendy! I wonder if you could help me figure out something on the "frequently asked questions" section. I got 2 pages and one allows images, videos and buttons but the other one doesn't allow them. Why would this be? I have been looking EVERYWHERE on google and had not found an answer yet :'(
So I had another user say something similar about having two pages and one would allow her to setup the auto replies and the other wouldn't. I never did find a "real" answer, but my theory is that it has to do with Facebook deployments. For example, when FB swapped over to the new profiles, some of us had it right away, some of us didn't. I think they have to migrate the previously created pages in sections to the new page format that was released. So in short, I think you'll get it eventually, but it's at FB's speed.
Rudi at this time I am pretty sure they do not offer this for groups. I wish they did!! And for personal profiles as well because I can think of at least 10 things I'd love to automate on both!
Hi Wendy! I've set up instant reply messages on Facebook but when I test it, it just doesn't work like the account messaging us can't really receive an instant reply.
I would make sure your instant reply is turned on. Here's a screen shot of what I mean: snag.gy/N0K28t.jpg You can also see it at 1:35 in the video. Other than that, not knowing how you're testing it, it could be it hadn't propagated to the other platforms yet. Is it working today? For example if you created it on desktop but were using a mobile facebook app to test it. That's unlikely, but possible. But it really does sound though like the toggle switch just isn't flipped.
I have not seen that feature yet. But that is a phenomenal idea. I have the same issue when I sell on there too. As it stands I have to copy/paste to everyone, which gets old.

Right now marketplace doesn't offer it. I sure wish it did, and for personal profiles too (i.e. if someone's out on vacation). It's asked for often though so maybe Facebook's listening.
Not that I'm aware of. At this point we can't even set it up for our personal profiles. It appears to be for pages only. I would LOVE it if they would role it out for Marketplace and personal profiles. It would be so useful! But at this point if you can do it, I don't know of a way.

Not off hand, but I wonder if maybe it's a caching issue. I'm sure you have by now (this comment is a week old - sorry for the delayed response!), but exit out of it and come back and see if that makes a difference. Facebook can be glitchy with some of their tools, so sometimes even jumping to a different browser to do the edit will make the difference between it working or not.
I cant find the messaging thing and the settings is in an different place can you make an update on this can you start at the home page this time thanks.
I wish I could upload a new video onto this one, but YT doesn't allow for that so I'll try to answer you here by text. From the homepage, log into Facebook and you should see your regular news feed. Navigate to your page (use the search bar or if you have it pinned on the left side menu), and from that point, if you are the page's admin, that should pick you right up where the video above starts at. The automatic facebook reply worked normally in my page when I tested but when I personalized the msg it's not replying anymore and yes instant reply in on :( any idea what's wrong
I wonder if you're experiencing a delay. For example if you write a company in minute one, and then again a few minutes later it may not trigger a second iteration of the same response. I'm just guessing here without being able to see what's going on. Have you tried it since or in a cache free window?
That one I've only got a guess on - try readding your page's profile picture so maybe it will trick the system into reloading it because it will read a "new file."

Facebook did recently update their layout, so some folks are on the old and some are on the new format. If you're on the old one and it looks familiar, you SHOULD just be able to follow the video again as if you were creating something new and it will show up and then you just edit that. If you're on the new layout, you go to your page, on the left you should see "Edit Page Info, from there click on Messaging in the left hand nav, then about 1/3 of the way down on the right you'll see a small link "Go to Automated Responses." From there you can click onto the automated response you're trying to setup and you should see what you've already done. Hope that helps! - Wendy

Anyone having problems with FB Business' automated response? Ours just stopped working about 2 weeks ago. We tried turning it on then off and even recreated the automation but still not working. I also can't find any solutions or even contact support for FB Business. Any ideas?

I believe it's only available on Pages. I know there have been many comments and wishes for Facebook to expand it to personal profiles, groups and marketplace. Hopefully they do it soon!
Well I think that's the problem right there - you've got a group and not a page. The autoresponders only work on pages, not groups. Hope that was helpful!!
@@FinesseMuse Just to be super clear, you're on your page and not your profile, correct? I know it's a generic question but it comes up enough I have to ask. Because if you're on your page and you still don't see your tabs I'm at a bit of a loss. The only explanation I have is that you're not the admin, but that would seem strange if you created the page.
I'm not sure how to help except to say try to access it from different devices and different browsers. Without seeing your screen it's hard to say specifically this is what's going on, but FB is famous for rolling out features at different times to different people on different platforms and I'm wondering if you're just not seeing it because of that scenario. Thank you for the feedback! I am actually in the process of making an updated one for 2020. Not a whole lot has changed, but I'll be sure to include more how-to on mobile in my new video. This video focused primarily on how to do it using your desktop, but now I have mobile recording software so I'll be able to do more. I know that doesn't really answer your question, but I will say if at all possible I would do this from a computer. It has been my experience that Facebook favors desktops for their administrative tasks, and sometimes excludes options on mobile you would have been able to get otherwise. Take care! - Wendy
If on the Settings page you don't show "Messaging" under "General" in the left hand column, then my guess is you are an admin but maybe don't have all the rights. Is this your page or did someone make you an admin of a page?
@@WendyLitteral It's my personalfacebook account but I think (from what I read in another post), I have to create a page within my account and have auto reply respond to that. That is NOT what I'm looking to do. I simply want Messenger (my regular messenger) to auto reply (which I "turn it on") that I am in the gym and can't reply right now. . . something to that effect. Any ideas?
@@RoGard2022 Oh! OK now I understand, yes you absolutely have to have a page to use the auto reply feature. That would be phenomenal if they would roll it out to regular users though. I DO think there is a way to do it though, let me see if I can put a name to what I'm remembering. It's a 3rd party app I believe... brb
@@RoGard2022 OK it's not on Facebook, and I'm sure iPhone has this too but I'm an Android user. Basically you have to go to Android settings, search for driving mode and allll the settings for the different auto replies are in that area of the settings. What I'm not clear on is if it will link up to FB in this spot too but there does appear to be a sea of third party apps that will do this sort of thing like "Can't Talk." But I hope this helps! I will certainly be using this for myself too!

I've run into that before where my system sound was up, but I had inadvertently turned down the sound within the player itself. Thank you for letting me know though!
AGREED!! So many ideas for that! Simple as "can't talk right now, I'm at work" during a certain hours, all the way to vacations or just general "voicemail" style messages. It would be SO useful!
