People who are "doing it on the cheap" usually also know nothing about how to set it up. I am thinking most people in that category don't know what a bus is in audio engineering terms. So you may need to a part two to this to show HOW not just WHAT. Also some people may have a setup where they actually want to use the AUX outs or another type of out which may be XLR not 1/4 inch so a slightly different cable may be needed

Hey! I love this series! I'd love for you guys to do a video on the best in ear headphones for under $100! That would be a great video to see and to help churches or young up and coming worship leaders!

At our church, we use the 4 channel Behringer headphone amp that Brian mentions (Behringer HA4700). I highly recommend it. First, it not only has 4 headphone outs on the front (1 for each channel), it also has 2 additional headphone outs PER CHANNEL on the back, for a total of 12 sets of IEMs. It also has Bass and Treble EQ for each channel, a big plus if you send the same mix to all channels, but everyone has different headphone types. We just run some long headphone extension cords to each worship team member from the amp. It's not the prettiest setup, but it drastically improved our overall sound to eliminate the floor wedge monitors. Brian, just wanted to say I love WT and have all your Pads, Bumper Music, and other resources. God has blessed you with the ability to teach and equip others, so keep it up! Also, how long till the next version of Bumper music comes out?? God bless!

Your video was very informative, thank you for taking the time to make it. This looks like a good solution for us, although I wondered what your thoughts were on somehow limiting the signal. I'm not too concerned about the other musicians playing too loudly, but if someone pulls a cable or something shorts out somewhere, it seems like it could cause some hearing damage. Not sure if my mixing console has limiting capabilities or not.

Hi Brian, thanks for the tips. Our team is starting to use in ear monitor but we are not sure how to setup. It may be abit difficult but can you show us in live how to setup in church. How your church setup, what type of monitor you use and how it is wire and preferably wired in ear monitor because will be mostly using wired... Thanks. Looking forward for more tips. God Bless

Wow! A year later and I now understand and can't figure out why it was so hard before. Multiple connections and connection types, cables, ins and outs can be real confusing real fast if you haven't got much experience with this stuff. That said, I REALLY don't want to be tethered to anything. I know how that is going to end already . . . Not Well! Lol.

I purchased the items you have highlighted here for use primarily with vocals. 1-first problem I encountered after I made all he connections, was no sound. Realized I needed to remove and replace the stereo/mono clip. Very delicate operation. Could not access it with my needle nose pliers. I had to edge it out with very slender dental style pick. Once I replaced the clip in the proper position it worked fine. 2- I ran my mic directly to the board, which seemed fine. But then I picked some additional so mic Xlrs, so I tried running the mic cable from the mic to rolls unit. Then to the mixer via through Xlrs connection. Again no sound. I could hear everything in my IEMs (mix, my voice) with the mic volume controlling the amount of volume in my era. Thought it worked great until I realized my voice was not coming over the pa. Any ideas as to why this is occurringr?

Squishington hi can you make a step by step tutorial on how to set up this rolls to a mixer
@Squishington3rd
@Squishington3rd 6 лет назад
Hi Joseph, Each desk is slightly different but you need to connect one of the bus sends (aux outputs) to the Rolls. The input on the Rolls is the monitor input socket, you'll need a 1/4" TRS jack plug on the end of the cable going in here (stereo jack), If your desk has xlr output then the other end needs to be XLR, if it is jack out then you'll need to check with the owners handbook on what type of connection that is, it is likely it will also be TRS but I couldn't say for sure without seeing the handbook myself. To get the audio into the rolls each channel will have a corresponding dial if an analog desk for that aux output or it might be on the channel setup page if it is a digital desk. I tend to throw 15% of each instrument or vocal wanted and go from here, you can always turn one up more if you want more of a specific person/instrument. Better to send the signal through low to start with and increase the volume than to blow your eardrums out on the first note.

We have the Behringer headphone mixers at our church, my only concern is that the congregation will only hear the drums since we are trying to lower the stage volume since we already play as loud as the drums do. We have really high main FOH speakers but not sure if the people in the front will hear the the rest of us and only hear the drums.

@Squishington3rd
@Squishington3rd 6 лет назад
Generally yes they are the same principle but it depends on the interface as some digital desks use a stage box over a network cable rather than connections on the back of the desk which then get sent over a loom/snake. You plug the headphone amp/IEM into one of the aux send (Bus) channels out of the desk or stage box and then on each of the channels set how much of each channel goes into that mix.

Hey man so I’m looking at setting up in ears for all the musicians and then later on the singers. I’ve heard that HA8000 is a good headphone amp to use. I want all musicians to be able to hear MD mic and multi tracks (2 channels). And then maybe each musician could be able to hear themselves using the other channels. Let’s say I have about 6 musicians and 4 singers how could I set up HA8000 so that each musician and the 4 singers have fold back, but all of them can hear the MD and multitracks?

Hey, I would like to know, why is Behringer frowned upon? He states that they reverse engineer the other brand with cheaper components. I'd like people to confirm if this is really true, because we use one.
@therumbler
@therumbler 7 лет назад
Tony Lancer the pre amps in behringer mixers are average, at best. Also, the potentiometers ("pots") in my Behringer 5 channel utility mixer are super noisy too. Noise started only 6 months after purchase. Avoid Behringer equipment if you care about quailty.

our church uses a full size behringer x32 and it is amazing as a mixing board and can do some pretty cool things with it.
@lozleo
@lozleo 6 лет назад
+Tony Lancer Yes, it is true. Behringer has been considered since the beginning, entry level equipment. They have improved a bit over the years, but they still make shitty stuff because they use cheap components so they can pass the savings on to their customers. It truly is a case of you get what you pay for.
@loganpierce3163
@loganpierce3163 6 лет назад
Idk behringer is sort of known for having faulty equipment, though my bands sound guy has a high end board made by behringer that sounds/looks amazing
@HaShemMetal
@HaShemMetal 6 лет назад
It's important to note some things about Behringer. Yes, old products and some new are reverse engineered copies (using cheaper components) of other well known products. HOWEVER, it should be noted that as behringer has grown, they have purchased other companies, and now have a pretty impressive array of products using their own entities. Behringer purchased MIDAS a few years back, which are known as makers of quality mixing gear. They have incorporated MIDAS preamps and tech in newer mixing products (like the X series digital mixers). Also, more recently Behringer purchased TC Electronic, who are well regarded in the studio effects and guitar effects world. Safe to say that while past products and methods might be suspect, Behringer as a parent company has a great team of engineers across their brands which spills over into their behringer branded products these days.

@Squishington3rd
@Squishington3rd 6 лет назад
Hey Logan, you'd have to connect one of the Aux Send (bus) channels to the snake at the desk end (they might already all be plugged in, depends on your individual set up) but you do need a spare send channel not currently being used for front of house speakers or monitors unless you're going to have exactly the same mix balance. You then connect your headphone amp to the same return channel at the wall plate.

Hey man, really great info, I just have one question, are the aux sends stereo? I see you're using stereo cables from the aux send to the headphone amp, so are the aux sends stereo? thank you.
@RussHollinshead
@RussHollinshead 7 лет назад
No - the guy missed the point of why you would use a "stereo" lead. The aux (e.g bus out) sends are mono, but you send it down a balanced cable e.g. a TRS balanced cable. This means you can run longer lengths of cable without signal loss. A balanced mono cable requires three cables inside - like your standard xlr mic cable. Same theory, different connectors, thats all. An unbalanced stereo connection requires three cables - but you will lose signal over longer lengths. To do stereo properly, run two of the mono balanced TRS cables (or a two core loom) to a stereo headphone amp. This will require the use of two auxes from your desk.
@bastianmaze_beats8730
@bastianmaze_beats8730 7 лет назад
+Russ Hollinshead thank you so much, you didn't have to do this so I appreciate it, I'll mess with it trying your suggestion = ) Much love.
@tonylancer7367
@tonylancer7367 7 лет назад
Hey Russ, interesting point you have there. I have a question. If there is no panning on any of the other channels, it would be futile to send two mono sends, because they would sound the same, correct? If so, is it possible to recreate a studio like mix (panning essentially and stereo)? Does this need a highly sophisticated sound board?
@RussHollinshead
@RussHollinshead 7 лет назад
Tony Lancer it's generally more common place to do stereo aux mixes on a digital desk as the software generally allows you to pair two auxes and give you a pan across those two aux sends. You can still do it with an analogue desk but it's less user friendly. For example, if aux 1 is left and aux 2 is right, to have something like vocals to be in the centre of the mix, you have an equal amount of send from the channel to aux 1 and 2. If you wanted a bias of the vocals in the left channel, you'd send more on the aux 1 compared to the aux 2. Hope this makes sense.
@niklase5121

Instead of a 50 feet cable a stagebox monitor channel should work better. Most churches with modern music have one. Stereo is not very important on stage. The headphone amp should have xlr inputs of course.

Hi Brian! I reaaaaally pushed my church into in-ear monitoring a year ago and went the Behringer way, as we needed 8 people on stage at the very least. Our mixer (A behringer) only has 2 aux sends and 2 fx sends (which we also use as sends for recording since we need more aux's) so I could only set up two mixes. The problem is, we sometimes struggle with distortion in the headphones... specifically with the bass drum and snare drum... we basically can't add them at all to the monitor mix and the Gain is already at its lowest in the mixer... What can we do about that?
@worshiptutorials
@worshiptutorials 7 лет назад
+José Ignacio Echeverría make sure the level you're sending to the headphone amp is t clipping it. This would be different than the gain structure of each individual channel - the overall level. You might try turning down every channel (the level of each to the bus mix). I haven't used the behringer in a while, but it should allow you to monitor the input level of the signal you're sending it. If it clips, it's going to sound bad.

Yes the aux or bus mix that goes to your in-ears is completely separate from the main mix. Every board handles it a little differently, so my advice would be to read the manual for the board you're using and learn how to set it up.
