Great overview! I didn't think I'd use focus modes when first released but it is a very useful feature. I recently created a focus mode specifically when in my car and with the additional lock screen widgets in iOS 16 it makes it very useful when driving.
Haha they’re great! And group chats will get muted during focus if none of the members are allowed. Or you can swipe on the group conversation and just hide alerts that way
Hey, great content. I am considering subscribing. Quick question - Sometimes, silenced apps notifications, still show up and appear as "While in Personal Focus" - I don't want to see them at all. Also, are you able to apply the messages tip to whatsapp? I do get some work messages on whatsapp and would be great if I am able to hide (not silence) them during my time off. Thanks in advance!
I just found your video. I have iPhone 14 Plus in the notification options there is another option Silence Notifications: which one should be selecting While Locked or Always? Which you I’ll be recommending.
You can’t allow specific contacts in third party apps like that, unfortunately. If an app builds in support for focus filters like Fantastical, that could work. But I don’t think WhatsApp has done that
Hi 🙂 I've got a question for you and I wondered if you could explain why some countries have all the new features directly and others don't ? For instance, I come from Belgium and we never have the chance of having the new updates. We don't have Siri on Apple TV, our Map is really old and doesn't have the 3D looks, we probably never have Apple News or Apple Fitness+. As our neighbouring countries have these, it becomes really disappointing and I bet that a lot of other countries have the same "problem". I thing that apple has been designed for America and I understand but, despite the language, why prevent other countries from having the new features? Love your videos by the way Cheers,
Hey man! Came across your video and I really enjoyed it. Very helpful! This is my first time watching your video and I just wanted to say you have a great speaking voice. Keep it up brother!
If you don't activate any focus modes and disable all schedules you won't ever enter a Focus Mode. But you can swipe down for Control Center and change or turn off focus mode there as well.
When i choose one app from “suggestions” after a while the whole apps in “suggestions” have been selected even tho I didn’t selected them and they come back after I remove them, what should i do?
Hi, is it possible to set up focus mode that will basically put my phone on silent mode based on my location? I want to receive all my notifications but without any sounds.
@@beardfm I don’t want to see certain messages from the Messages app while I’m in a non-work focus mode. I don’t see them on the phone or iPad but still see them on the watch.
Please show how to trigger focus modes using shortcuts. I’m trying to have a certain focus mode enable when connected to CarPlay. Is there a way to do this?
CarPlay isn’t a trigger, but you can create a Personal Automation that trigger by connecting to a Bluetooth device (like your car) and setting the Focus Mode that way
I’m only able to create new home screens for the default Apple focus modes. If I create custom focus mode I have to use one already created. Is this an oversight? Same for anyone else?
No, you have to create all the Home Screen first, then you can “uncheck” certain home screens from being active in default mode, and choose different ones per focus. I explain more here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mv66hG8Ykpc.htmlsi=WntG_ciMgnm1ao0i
I think I figured out the trick. Use an unused default focus to create a new screen, then they will be available for selection in custom focuses after which the default focus can be reset or deleted. Thanks for the response@@beardfm.
Thanks for a bunch of useful tricks. Great job !!! However, do you know how to switch on FOCUS mode automatically when a meeting on the calendar is due?
You can choose “automatically activate” and it may enable it with every meeting. Or if there’s an app you use during meetings, you can make a Shortcut automation that says “when this app opens, turn on this focus mode.” But unfortunately I don’t see a way to create a command “when events on this calendar start, activate focus mode.”
@@beardfm Thanks for replying. My issue is that I have ChatGPT and Bard set up in my tabs list to use while studying in Focus Mode and yet I am able to open Twitter or any other website. I would love if it just stopped me from any other website or tab while I am studying. Please help me with this.
Great video!!! I would just like to know the people that you have selected to receive notifications from, do their notifications come through on all apps or is it just for calls and text messages?
Can you select widgets for the custom home screens? It has apps you can put in but widgets aren’t there. So do you turn on the focus mode and change it on the actual Home Screen if you want to add widgets?
Just getting back into the iOS space with 14P and iOS16 - looking at creating a some sort of focus mode for when I am at church - but I would like to see the notifs - just not hear them...haven't see a way to do that yet...I can create the mode by location and time but still trying to figure out how quiet every thing. Can't wait til Ventura and 16.1 for the iPad so I can share across these devices...
Been trying to think of a way to do this. The only way to mute notifications is the physical mute switch so don’t think you can make a focus mode mute notifications but still show them on screen. But you can still show notifications on Lock Screen from apps you allow.
@Bearded Teacher thanks. Just trying to find a way to remove volume which I typically forget to hit the mute switch until after I get my first notification.
Is there any way that your Mail and Calendar will not show up in notification center during a 'off work' focus mode? I don't even want them to show up in that list!
This is an awesome video. I just upgraded to iOS 16. Is there any way to do an auto respond to texts on something other than driving focus mode? I use that but then I have to turn it off to use my phone. I get constant texts from clients and it can really mess up vacation.
Thanks! And there’s not an ideal solution for that, unfortunately. In the Shortcuts app, you can create a Personal Automation for texting, but you have to choose what contacts will get a response manually. Then you can create an auto-respond message, BUT you have to tap on the Shortcut notification every time it runs. Shortcuts won’t auto send texts without your approval.
Great video thanks … is there a way to allow the list of people that you want to receive texts from …when focus is on …to be able to see that your focus status is on do not disturb. My friend is on my list BUT it’s for emergency purpose but now she doesn’t know when I’m on do not disturb or not because she’s on my “ allow “ list .
Thanks! And yes on the Settings > Focus page toggle “Focus Status” on. Then anyone who tried to text you from an iPhone will see you have notifications silenced. You can also go to contacts individually in the contacts app and choose whether a person sees your focus status or not.
Hi again , thank you for the info … I did all that you suggested but for some reason .. people on my allowed list do not see the silenced notification … I’ve tried everything. Up until the iOS 16 update It was ok … but now they don’t …even with the shared focus status on with each individual .
