Thanks for watching! Let me know if there's anything you think I missed! You can read the official article from Ableton on how to do this here: help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209071469-Optimizing-Windows-for-Audio
I've been using Ableton on a Windows Laptop for 7 months, i never did any optimization. I just stumbled on this video and tried out ableton and WOW! Everything feels sooo much smoother within ableton. The whole application seems to be more reactive now. ty so much!!
TNice tutorials is by far the best soft soft basic tutorial, I rember when I just started learning, tNice tutorials was so helpful!! I’ve now been releasing edm
Thank you so much, I’m learning tNice tutorials in quarantine and you made it very simple I really appreciate it, thank you for going over every little
Thx for the review, Alex Regarding pc configuration, it's possible to run fine on it, but for sure you need continously optimization activities, update drivers, regular OS updates, not to forget are all updates for every hardware peripherals graphics card, soundcards etc etc. It's a fact that pc Windows systems need to be optimized many moments in probably 1 month already. To me, I had enough with this. Done with windows OS in my music studio. Yes, I had to invest but it's worth it for sure👌🏼 My Mac Studio M2 Ultra with 24c CPU, 60c GPU en 32c Neural Engine I'll prob be save for at least 15/20yrs. Still no updates upgrades optimizations needed. My advice to all small or big music producers: Macbook Pro M1 or M2 16gb or go pro with a Mac Studio. You'll need to get alerts for taking a break producing your creativity 🤘🏼😎
wow!!! Went through the whole video and followed the steps involved to get my computer up and running for Live 10 lite. Very straight forward. Thanks so much. You, sir, should be a university prof!! Thanks
I have an MSI GE63VR 7F with 32gb RAM and still I can't sort out my latency. Asio causes sound distortion so I uninstalled it. I have a Novation 61 keyboard plugged into it. Ableton changed the latency settings after an update and suddenly everything went haywire. I haven't been able to fix this so now I have to quantize literally everything I play into Ableton and edit each note. It's an awful experience because I can't just okay and enjoy what I'm playing because it throws me off beat and then I just give up and shut it all down.
Yes. That's probably why you're having ASIO and latency issues. The best configuration is using an interface with ASIO drivers made by the manufacturer.
Nice man thanks for this. How did you get windows to remember the bit depth and sample rate? it always resets it to 32/48.. annoying to say the least. cheers
Very helpful video. I second getting an audio interface. I even upgraded my Line 6 UX1 to a MOTU M2 and saw a latency improvement. If you've adjusted Power Settings in Windows 10 but are STILL seeing lag or glitches, check your BIOS. Disable all power "features" in your BIOS. Disabling Intel Speedstep and Powershare on my Dell with a 2nd gen i7 fixed my Ableton 10 glitching.
peace, was for sure helpful, just installed Ableton and never used it am producing dub reggae and just got all my gear to start preparing for my live shows, thanks Arky Starch
I unchecked the exclusive control but I am still having issues where if I am trying to watch a RU-vid video with Ableton open, I am unable to play any RU-vid videos. RU-vid videos work with Ableton closed. Any ideas?
When you go into audio preferences it would say something like "Mackie ASIO" if that's the audio device. Check their website for the latest drivers. If you have an open stereo input you could always run the headphone out to your mixer and make sure windows is not set to use the ASIO driver.
Hi, my version of windows (10 home on laptop) doesn't allow for many (any important) advanced setting manipulation for the battery. What can I do about this?
Davey ' you should lower it if your computer is running too slow, otherwise keep it at 48. If you want to export on a service like bandcamp with your flac or Wav files, then you want the best quality.
Thx a lot for the video, was very useful but i have a question! I Changed ISIO but when i'm when ASIO is on, a have only the sound of LIVE but i don't have sound from other programs, like firefox and so I don't have sound for the tutorial... Is it normal? Do you have a solutions for that?
Hey! Really nice vid! I have some issues with asio. When I select it in ableton all the other application ans windows sound aren't able to play... Did you have any advice?
Hey man, so I have a lenovo ideapad that I got a couple of months ago, and I have 12.4 ms. I can't get below that. I know that's really not a big number at all, but I'm a big keyboard player and I can really feel the delay when I'm making music. Also, how do I know what I can end on task manager and what I shouldn't?
I wouldn't end running tasks. I would just disable unnecessary startup services. I.e. apps that run in the background when you boot up. Just be careful not to disable Windows services. As far as your latency goes that's really dependent on your drivers. What kind of audio interface are you using?
@@DJCouchKing No Audio Interface, I haven't bought any type of mic for recording purposes (yet), I've just been using the Windows ASIO Driver to get rid of some latency. Would buying an audio interface that comes with its own sound driver help with latency?
Hi! What about latency caused by ACPI.sys on op Win laptops. I have to work on windows machines but its just a headache and make it impossible. Thanks for reply.
Hi ! I'm using Windows 10, and I've installed my audio interface correctly on Ableton but I'm not getting no sound! The microphone is not recording anything! I've looked around on RU-vid and it shows that couple people using MacBooks had the same issue, but they resolved the issue by simply allowing Microphone Permission on Privacy Settings. I've tried the same thing with windows 10 but it looks like the Ableton software wasn't even included into the Microphone Permission space with other apps! And I've been informed that some applications don't have to be included into that space because they already allow the action themselves without any extra or manual settings. And it looks like Ableton is among these apps. but I'm 100% sure that I've well installed the audio interface and it's microphone on the software. I record twitch videos using Stream Labs OBS and I also use my Microphone on Premiere Pro and it works perfectly fine! Any help or any suggestions? Have you ever encountered this issue? Thank you!
@DJCouchKing I have ableton 11 on windows 11. Using the Apollo twin. USB.I recently upgraded my pc and I'm thinking I don't have the settings right in my computer because when I do the test in Ableton at 80% I'm getting audio dropouts. I never had that problem before I upgraded.
I'm using Ableton Live 11(Stnd) I have windows 11 pro 128 GB Ram CPU-AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6Core processor 3.5 GHz GPU-AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT VRAM 8176 MB GDDR6 2000 MHz Apollo Twin
I just downloaded Abelton on my windows laptop (i5 processor, 256 gb, 8gb RAM). Nothing serious just wanted to have fun. Using my Sony WH-1000x M3 headphones. Downloaded ASIO and when switching to the ASIO Driver type I receive an error message. "Love does not support 8000 as a sample rate for the device 'ASIO4ALL v2' ". The only options are Driver type and Audio Device so I don't have an option to change a sample rate. Any ideas?
You may need to open the ASIO4All panel and change the settings there. It will show up on your taskbar. Set the sample rate to 44.1kHz and the buffer to 256 samples. The current sample rate should show up under the audio devices in Live.
This video has helped me before but now, all of the sudden, Ableton takes over the whole sound even though I have unchecked the "Allow exclusive" in the system sound settings. Do you have any idea why this is happening? Pretty annoying having t toggle between my audio interface and my computer monitors when I'm watching youtube tutorials etc and playing along in Ableton
This is an issue with the ASIO drivers on some audio interfaces. A lot of people have been having this issue particularly with Focusrite interfaces. Is windows also set to the ASIO driver?
@@DJCouchKing That's a good question - I have no idea... I am using the PresSonus Audiobox iTwo interface. Right now it works just fine controlling the volume of youtube etc through the interface but as soon as I turn on Ableton it takes over and I have to switch sound settings over to Realtek. How can check if windows is set to ASIO driver?
Installed ASIO but if I can hear Baleton I cannot hear anything else such as youtube or video files. It is not working I tried hardware configuration too. Nothing works.
Hi man go to asio4all.org as he said download latest version and it will show scarlett but it will say asiov2 then click on it and it will show Scarlett and u can adjust the sample rates it's awesome I can now live monitor my input plugins without any latency
Go to the Focusrite website and download the drivers for your specific model of interface. Don't use ASIO4All the Focusrite official drivers will work better.
Hey bro, i want to use Traktor + Ableton at the same time, but with ASIO4ALL i can only hear 1 program. How can i listen to both programs at the same time? Ty,nice video
I started having troubles in ableton live trial as the whole program is responding slowly and the sound is lagging a lot...also the cpu level iz around 20% with no clips triggered but just when i press play it goes beyond 100%. In preferences i don't have the hardware setrings options and i can only change the output buffer size. My laptop is about 8yrs old but it has i5 and 8gb ram...is the problem in ableton, settings or the laptop?
@@DJCouchKing the power mangament mode is on high performance...not sure if i changed the time when laptop goes to sleep mode (if that makes any difference i will change that as well)...As for audio output i'm using normal headphones so in preferences i don't see the ASIO possibility
Download ASIO4All. The link is in the description. That should allow you to use ASIO with your on-board sound card. Set the buffer to 128 or 256 samples. An i5 won't allow for a ton of plugins and effects to run but you should be able to at least playback audio and make some music;
@@DJCouchKing thank you will definitely try that option...just curious could the problem be usage of multiple third party plugins at the same time? And if so how can this issue be fixed because mostly all the sounds i work with come from plugins...thanks for answering u r doing a great job
MAAAAN, tnx a LOT, but i still got one problem my youtube sounds and any other sounds besides Ableton automaticly stop working when i start Ableton, any suggestions?
Go into the sound control panel and make sure that under the audio device properties "allow apps to take exclusive control of this device" is deselected.
@@DJCouchKing yeah, i did that actually, you said it in the video... but still nothing i god UMC Behringer audio device, and still nothing... when i switch to a ASIO4ALL it stars to be very slow... :( Been having this problem for a while
Is there a way to change the advanced power settings on a Surface? On mine the only settings I see are for display, sleep, desktop background, and battery.
@@dakodaschwepker6902 I haven’t unfortunately I don’t use my Surface often for ableton, mostly for Musescore so just been trying to fix the latency there first
Well, I had Windows 7 since 2013 and today my friend transfered stuff from my c drive to the d..................then we installed the new c drive, we didnt delete anything from the old c drive, its in a drawer now..... so i downloaded ableton lite again and signed in, my 5 songs are gone. are they likely on the old c drive still in my drawer??? How do I get them back in my file?? I installed windows 10 on the new drive. Is it because i downloaded ableton 10 and my stuff is on 9?
Do you have an enclosure you can put the old hard drive in? If so connect it via USB and copy the old files again. You can open Live 9 projects in Live 10.
Bro I just brought a i9 32 gigs of ram 550 ssd and a 2 tb sata And I’m getting midi lag? What? Lol 😂 I was running on a Mac for years with 8gbs of ram with no latency...
Hi man! Thank you for your support by the way, I have some issues trying to get ableton 10 or even 11 at my PC as a Trial. When I want to install the software (Live 10) it appears a message that says "The Package is not supported by this processor..." and with the Live 11 only say "Installation Succesfully" but it doesn't appear at my Home Menu.
Thank you very much for this! The problems with sound settings on a brandnew powerful PC are so frustrating that I am about to stop using ableton and there is no support from ableton unfortunately. Using Asio driver I can hear Ableton sounds but then I cannot listen to any youtube video in parallel. When I want to record audio I need to switch the audio settings from Asio to the Audio Technica microphone settings and after recording, I need to switch it back to Asio. Midi input works sometimes, sometimes not .... I wish I could just set up the audio settings once and don't need to change them within a project depending on the tracks I am working on. I am about to give up :(
The ASIO/RU-vid issue depends on the drivers. Some drivers such as the Focusrite ones don't allow multiple apps to access the ASIO out at the same time. A workaround for this is running the headphone out from your computer into your audio interface and setting the windows audio to the default output.
does anyone know how to get the ASIO driver to work with ableton link? It is connected but there is no sound input. I am able to change the tempo from the app (grovebox) but there is not sound like i mentioned.
Ableton Link only sends synchronization data, not audio over wireless if that's what you mean. It will sync the tempos but you'll still need to send the audio signal with cables.
Thank you for your help I read an article on focusrite web, so I uninstall the ASIO 4all and my current driver for focusrite Scarlett and then download the latest version of driver for my interface is that correct.
Hi man I have the same problem when I click ASIO I cannot find my focusrite interface as urs appears. Please help Adam has the same issue. Thank you for the video.
Thanks! I just started with this world of ableton and got a midi keyboard, i was expenting everything to be plug and play but its a mess! I dont understand how certain problems are not fixed by this point in history. My sounds seems to be really unstable, like, if the computer goes to sleep and back on, then i get it distorted. Also, ableton sseems to block sound output from other places. For example if I wantt o watch a youtube video it will say ""Audio renderer error. Please restart your computer". This is all a big mess
Set your computer not to go to sleep when you're using music production software. That's a long known issue not related to Ableton specifically. Also make sure you're using the ASIO driver if you're in windows.
@@DJCouchKing I'm in windows and I'm using ASIo. However, it is still the case that when I have ableton with ASIo then the audio from chrome doesn't work
No sound on playback? Or no sound during recording? Make sure the track is record armed, input monitoring is set to auto and that your routing in the IO section is correct.
Hi DJ Couch King, I would suggest getting a Radeon card and watch the Latency Mon drop to almost zero. Nvidia and Audio production (Ableton = spew). Try it. Hope this helps.
Thanks Bra.. Started as a Apple Guy (graphics) and switched to PC, but mostly Linux long time ago. They are way better systems. The only problem with windows 10 is all the garbage they put into that thing. Constantly blocking program reporting back to their source. But Intel rocks. Linux is the best but too bad big corps don't support it... BTW.. have a Focusrite 4i4 and its garbage. There is a issue with a channel when using a mic or guitar. Audicity works great with vocals, but I'd like to hear the abelton track when singing or playing. Maybe a video on the the Scarlite vocal issues, and their ASIO driver is horrible. Gotta run vocals with MME. Thanks for the vid.. My Pioneer DJ console works better as a interface, but too bulky.
