Thank you so much for this video. A friend was trying to set up a work station at home with no IT support from her employer. I found this video and it is amazing. Part of our problem was they sent the wrong cords. Your instructions were so specific I figured out what she needed and ordered the cords overnight from Amazon and had her up and running this morning. I am a school bus driver so have absolutely no knowledge about this techy stuff. Your instructions were so easy to follow. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
THANK YOU so much! I was plugging in USB C wrong and could not figure out why it wasn't working! The world needs people who are helpful techies like you.
Thank you so much! I spent an hour trying to figure out how to get my new thinkpad docking station working with my laptop and just couldn't figure out until I found this video! Thank you!
THANK YOU!!! One day my work laptop and monitor decided they didn't want to talk to each other so I figured I should reconnect using the docking station I've had in a box for over a year. This video got me through after two hours of confusion.
Starting a new remote day job tomorrow. Had a ton to unpack and this video was indescribably useful. Thank you very much for taking the time to post it. It'll give me a real hand up.
I’ve been watching a lot of videos trying to figure out how to set up my monitors and your by far exceeded the previous videos I had seen. Thanks for dumbing it down for people like me!
Best video yet. I am trying to set up my docking station and was having trouble after watching other videos, but your video was very clear at showing all the different courts up close thank you thank you.
3:13. Magic words. Plug into the back, not the front. The diagram is wrong in the instructions I got with the unit is wrong. Thank You for solving the mystery.
I am setting up my work station with 2 monitors and a laptop. I am treading in unfamiliar territory but you made this quite easy to figure out.Thank you so much.
Was having issue with my office setup I have used 2 HDMI cable’s one directly from thinkpad to monitor and other to the doc and it worked moved to new place and one 1 monitor was detecting and have attached both monitor together and as I unplugged one the monitor which is detecting the other popups else it wont detect, tried updating drivers but as we dont have admin rights raised internal ticket and this video pop up. just switched one cable from hdmi to display port and it worked thank you for the video.
Thank you so much! Very clear and concise instructions. I attempted last night, but made a couple of missteps, but your video showed me where I went wrong. Can't wait to get home and try again using this info! 🙂
Thank you. Unfortunately the docking station does not seem to connect the monitors for my work laptop. It works well with my personal laptop but when I connect the work laptop the keyboard and mouse connected to the docking station work well, but it the monitors. Funny because my work computer (also a thinkpad) works well with the same type of docking station at work! So what am I doing wrong?
Amazing! Quick question. when you said that with the USB-A will only work data, that includes the HDMI and DP? I have one laptop that doesnt suport usb-c so I am looking a docking station to connect 2 monitors.
Thanks for this. Do you know if there's anyway to turn off power delivery on this dock? I have a gaming laptop and the power delivered isn't enough to keep it going so having to use the power brick alongside the dock power.
Thank you for the very informative video. My Lenovo Legion 5 has the USB C port at the back of the laptop. The power port is on the left side and is a yellow square identical to the one provided with the power supply brick. When using this docking station, can I use the USB C port on the back of the laptop or should I use the provided usb adapter and plug it in the side of the laptop? Thank you
Would Ubuntu linux work with it well? Can I connect 2 laptops to the same dock? If I need to switch between 2 laptops? Would it work with 144hz monitor?
Should I be able to use the usb ports while dock is plugged in but laptop is off? I mean, for charging only, since data doesn't have anywhere to go? I've set up a smartwatch charger in one of the ports and it it constantly starting the charge then ending it, like it can't draw enough power from the dock? When the laptop is on, it charges without issues
Will the USB3 adaptor to the power cord do screen sharing? I have an old (T490s) with a docking station and multiple screens and it's working fine since the cable from the docking to the laptop is one and the same (USB-C ports). Now I have acquired a Lenovo Ip3 laptop and doesn't come up with a USB-C port. Which adaptor do I need to buy to connect the docking station to my new Lenovo IP3 laptop?
If you close the laptop so that the screen is touching the keyboard, do the monitors shut off? I know for Dell if you plug in the docking station while your laptop closed, the monitors still display and function.
Hi, I'm admittedly clueless as to why you have a docking station. I have an Acer monitor (R240HY) and Thinkpad 15 gen 4. Want to have an extra screen. Is there one cord that would work for that? I have rewards at Lenovo so trying to figure out what accessory cord I could buy and it would work to make that connection. Thanks for any help!!
Hi! Thank you so much for this vid. I'm setting up my home office with one monitor. I don't have the ethernet cable - do I need that? The dock is working, but my monitor is not.
It has to be a USB C or Thunderbolt cable capable of 60 watts of power delivery. Make sure the cable is rated for 60 watts before using it on this dock.
Question: When the Docking Station is connected by ethernet to my home notework, are the ports available for use? Can I use like a hub and utilize the usb ports or, is everything only functional when the Thonkpad laptop is connected?
The Display Ports and HDMI located in the back should not stack each other. I am unable to use my third monitor, is there a fix or loophole to bringing my third monitor to life?
I came across an older generation of this dock at a thrift store. It was missing the USB C cable. I imagine I can't use any random type-c. What should I look for when buying a new cable.
I have a lenovo ideapad 3i and an L15 portable monitor that uses usb-c any recommendations on an adapter 😭 pls help I’ve tried using an hdmi to usb and doesn’t work and a usb-c female to usb male and it doesn’t work either…
can the display port have a regular HDMI connected to the back of the monitor? i am using this type cables but my monitor is not detecting the signal...any ideas?
I have a Lenovo T490 laptop, and a Dell Monitor. The sound (for Teams/Zoom) stops working when I connect to the docking station. How do I remedy this? I have had this problem before, but, can't remember the solution. Also, I guess it's easy to use the monitor only when the laptop is closed...what setting do I need to adjust to make this happen?
Hello Ilyas, I would start with verifying compatibility with the computer first, if the dock and the computer are compatible, I would suggest verifying that all of your connections are plugged into the correct ports and that the cables are fully inserted. Lastly I would suggest verifying that your cables are correct, please keep in mind that some cables are directional and will only pass data in one direction.
hi um i was wondering what cable i should order for my laptop i have the same laptop as urs intelcorei5 so what cable should i by and am using a coby as my gaming monitor
Hello Richard, in your situation the cable that you would need, would depend on the output that your laptop has and the input that your display has. Please keep in mind that some cables are directional and will only pass data when connected in the correct configuration.
I have a macbook pro at work, I have two monitors. I connect via the usb C to the correct port in the docking station. My issue is that I have to unplug the laptop sometimes to travel to different locations, When I come back to my desk I expect to be able to plug in my usb C to the laptop and it connect to my monitors and other equipment. However sometimes it won't recognize or wake up from the connection and I ultimately have to unplug the power and reconnect to get it to reset and take the connection again. I am confused if this is user error or if this is just a bug with Mac's. please anyone have any similiar issues and can help. thank you.
I have tried everything, but my monitors won't detect with my dock. I have restarted, drained power, bought new HDMI and display port cables, they just will not detect! Any troubleshooting ideas?
The set up at my office works perfectly fine. Just connecting usbc to my thinkpad laptop charges and mirrors screen and everything else. The one I have at home is the same but doesnt charge the laptop which is super annoying..
I would like to ask, I have a lenovo T14 thinkpad laptop and I wanted to have 2 monitors display but the other monitor is unable to detect. Im using VGA to HDMI for both monitors. One hdmi is connected to USB-C adapter (right side monitor - display 2) and the other HDMI (left side monitor - display 3) connected to hdmi port in the laptop but this is not detected in the laptop... please advise how to fix? Thank you.
Thanks a lot, very detail review I just wondering that I am using the T14 AMD and X1 Nano Intel i5, can I use this dock for both my devices? (Because there is no thunderbolt on this 40AF0135US dock)
Not sure about your specific machines, but you can check on Lenovo's accessories lookup for compatibility to see if they match that dock: support.lenovo.com/us/en/accessorieslookup
Hello Jia! I am sorry to say but the remote power button feature will only work with compatible Lenovo laptops connected to the docking station. The other features of the docking station should function normally via USB-C.
Can we use this docking station (connected to the laptop), without plug it in to the charger? Sometimes I just wanna use it to read my USB A flashdisk for a brief.. as my laptop only have 2 USB C ports for the external connection..
The docking station must be plugged into a power source in order to turn on and allow you to read a USB A device that is plugged into it. A USB-C to USB-A adapter might be a better fit for when you need quick access.
Light turned white, mouse and keyboard plugged into station work, but screens are not working. Went to settings and multiple displays, clicked detect, and nothing.
If you review the video at 1:51 is where I go over the ports on the back of the docking station, this particular docking station has 2 sets of both HDMI and DisplayPort, but only 1 port from each set can be used at a time.
