The Bigger Story:
I will be giving a guitar away that might resonate with fans of Prince and fans of Cloud Guitars. EMG Pickups, Schaller Hardware...own a beautiful custom guitar! "Lets Build A Guitar" and give it away! Would you consider partnering with me through Patreon to make some dreams happen? Let's give this world something to smile about and fight for JOY! I have been building guitars for 12 years. Some of my guitars are played by professional musicians, including musicians who played with our Minnesota's Own Prince Rogers Nelson (Prince). I thought it would be creative and bring some joy to the world if I found ways to give some guitars away. For this to work, I will need patron support through Patreon. The more support, the more guitars to give away and I will film it for your pleasure! I've gotta pay for parts somehow :) The first guitar featured was in process prior to developing the idea and already has a destination, however my hope is to continue building guitars and giving them away to individuals who need a boost in life. This might not be the criteria for every guitar given away, but it will be for the majority. _____________________________________________________________________

I have found to leave my nut locks loose for a few hours of playing 🙃 using tremolo excessively to stretch strings 🙃 tune one final time with fine tuners at the 3/4 up position because most of your tuning will be tightening strings now mostly as they stretch. I find if I leave them at the halfway position I will eventually run out of adjustment as strings get a month or so old ,I only get about 60 days out of a set of strings if that and once you are all setup and insinuated it definitely seems to be faster to just replace 1 string at a time and it always comes together perfect, I have found the heaviest sustain block 😀 and some hair ties or rubber bands will dampen the spring vibration also.and always have a hardtail to just grab and play as much as I love the floyd rose it just doesn't ring out or have the sustain of a hardtail,lol.i will always have a full floating tremolo there just to much fun .a surface mount one way tremolo is a little better solution if you want the stop ✋ of the one way and a halfway hardtail sound.once the overdrive and distortion along with a big amp come together ❤ it kinda hides any sound discrepancies the floyd has when playing it unplugged 😆 hardtail definitely has the cleaner sounds 👌 but I still live in that 80s zone .long live on the sound of evh Eddie was the master original trickster of the floyd rose.peace and nice informational video for the guys still fighting with there floyd 👍 😀

I do mine a bit different, I fashioned a block that fits in the back between the fr and guitar body and holds the saddle flat while I back off the spring screws. Tune it up (which will be a lot faster cause your not fighting against the fr) slightly flat before tightening nut, so that it will come back to tuned when tightening lock nut, fine tune it then start tightening spring screws just enough to where the block comes out (will have a liitle bit of resistance, but should come out easy), everything should be balanced perfectly. When I first started out had an Ibanez and had no clue how to setup trem and could never keep in tune so i locked the saddle and had no trem. then ytube came out n I learnt how to setup a guitar properly, went out and bought gauges and files and stuff. I've also seen a guy use a bunch of picks instead of a block cause not all guitars are the same, and he didn't want to be making blocks all the time, but it is tricky to hold those picks and slide them in without loosing one and they all fall. I go through these steps every time I change strings even if theyre the same Guage, because not all strings are the same, and you want that thing perfectly balanced, spring tension and string tension should be same. Anyhow thought I'd share for the beginners watching. Also get a Floyd rose intonating tool

Floyd approved trems will all have 3 adjustment intonation positions for the Floyd saddles. You missed the key trick with Floyds, you leave the springs in and block it in the back to keep the trem perfectly level while you're working on it. It essentially turns into a hardtail and completely eliminates the hours of frustration people go through tying to balance it. You then do the typical relief, action, nut triage, then intonation, and finally at the end, you leave the block in the trem, then very slowly start loosening the springs at the back until the block falls out. The block with be tilted ever so slightly forwards, but just retune it and it'll balance out to perfectly level. Boom perfect Floyd rose setup in under an hour. Any tech charging extra for Floyd setups either has no idea what they are doing or are gouging.

Use the tremolo Bar to lower the Spring Tension when u set the Action on the Flpyd Rose, the way you do it is damaging the Studs
@Qban220
@Qban220 Год назад
I stopped watching after seeing this. Ideally you should adjust without ANY tension from the springs and the strings. Otherwise you'll damage both the studs and the bridge. This is the main reason why FR doesn't return to pitch after using it.
@MadJDMTurboBoost
@MadJDMTurboBoost 11 месяцев назад
This doesn't do what you want it to do. The pressure of the knife edge on the studs will always be there no matter what position you put the tremolo bar. The only way to reduce the pressure is to either remove the springs or detune the strings so they are slack. At that point you will notice that the bridge knife edges are off the posts and there is no pressure. If you just lower the tremolo bar, this reduces tension in the strings, but increases tension in the springs and vice versa when you raise the tremolo bar. The overall pressure of the knife edges on the studs remains constant until you detune or remove springs (or both).

nice video, just a word of caution, try to avoid raising and lowering the action on a Floyd with strings/springs at full tension. Minor adjustments are inevitable but lowering a few turns like you did ruins the knife edges of the floyd. Best to loosen the strings and remove a spring or two before doing major action adjustments

You move them until it’s intonated. You need to keep checking to see that it’s in tune at the 12th fret as well as in tune when playing the string open. If your open E is perfectly in tune, then your goal is for your 12th fret E on the same string to also be perfectly in tune (not sharp or flat)

Can anyone tell me how to stop my saddle lock screws from touching my strings when i pull up? is this a standard floyd rose problem?
@letsbuildaguitar9230
@letsbuildaguitar9230 2 года назад
I’m not exactly certain I know what you’re referring to…but I think you’re talking about pulling up on the bar…to the point in which your strings bottom out on the saddle screw below them. While players will often do this , the Floyd isn’t designed to be pulled up…it’s designed to push down….it can be a cool effect when pulling up though….without looking at your setup, my assumption is that the bridge is set with too much rear movement in play….the bridge should be parallel with the body….if it’s angled down with the back higher than the front …it would allow to much movement when pulling up…the bridge should bottom out before strings hit the screws….the spring on the back can be tightened to make the adjustment.

I don’t understand why you have to worry about being demonized, if you’re playing an EVH song. I understand if you’re using their music, but if you’re the one playing the instrument, it’s never going to sound exactly how EVH played it. I’m still new to guitar, but I was an aerospace welder for many years, and I could look at a weld and knew who laid the bead. I feel an instrument is the same way; no two people will play in the exact same way. It’s like handwriting I guess.

It really is a personal preference as to what you prefer….without knowing the exact pickups in each, it’s hard to say! @letsbuildaguitar9230
@letsbuildaguitar9230 11 месяцев назад
I would not say a neutral position….what is key for saddle placement is that they are positioned for perfect (or as close as you can get) intonation. Intonation determines where the saddle is placed on each string. Do some research on how to intonate a guitar. Play an open E on your low string….make sure it’s in tune…now play the same string on the 12th fret just pressing hard enough to make the note ring…is it sharp or flat? It should still be in tune…that’s intonation. Take note the harder you press the string or if your bending it, will make it go sharper…try to make the note sound without excessive force. The saddle will need to be moved forward or backward depending on how flat or sharp that note is.
