Works great for hatchling-juvenile size corn snakes! After that they’ll be able to be safely housed in a secure tank or terrarium without the worry of them escaping!

Alex’s Agamids can I keep a 4 mont in it and if so how long
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 4 года назад
Typically with snakes. He rule of thumb is to keep the snake in the enclosure till it measures the length and width of the enclosure. Every snake grows at different rates. So I can’t tell you exactly how long that tub would last for a young corn snake, because some may be three feet by a year of age. Whereas others may only be around eighteen inches long!
@obviouslyalesbian4595
@obviouslyalesbian4595 4 года назад
I wouldn’t recommend using a deep water bowl . Baby snakes can drown because if they get in they might not be able to get out . So maybe get a shallow water bowl .( or just don’t fill the bowl up with a lot of water )
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 4 года назад
That’s typically what I’d do. I’d only fill out half way so if the little guy wanted to soak, he wouldn’t overflow the enclosure.

That snake isn't a baby, it's a juvenile. That tub is way too small too, that snake should be in a 20 gal by now.
@AlexsAgamids

He’s in a 32 quart tub now. The setup was to show how to setup a baby. I agree he was way to small for that tub at that size. He was a mear example. Thank you for your concern though!

do you think a 20 gallon tank is too big for a baby corn snake about 10-14 inches??
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 4 года назад
As long as you have a lot of hides and visual barriers within the enclosure. A 20 gallon would be fine. The key is to make sure the baby doesn’t feel open or exposed. So as long as lots of hides are used. There shouldn’t be any issues.

@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 2 года назад
Honestly, by six months of age he may be a bit too large for this terrarium. At that point you should focus on doing a larger tub setup, or anything equal to a 20 gallon long glass terrarium.

I want to get a corn snake, but my parents don't like snakes. Any tips to convince them? My teacher said I should take them to see a baby
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 6 лет назад
When I first brought up the idea of owning a snake to my parents, they shut me down and said “no”. How did I end up with the snakes I have now? Improved I was responsible. I saved up birthday money and even did chores to earn a bit from my folks. Saving up money to provide the proper housing for these animals. The main reason I’ve found parents say no to pets is due to their fear of being the one who takes care of their child’s pet. I can’t speak for you, but my best advice is to prove to your parents that this would be “your” animal. Not theirs to care for. I hope this has helped you a little bit, and bessst of luck! (Snake pun intended!)

When I first thought of getting a corn snake my mum went along with it until I gave up wanting it, 2 years later I finally got. I would just recommend showing your parents you’ve done your research, show responsibility so they can believe that you will look after it and if they fear one just take them to handle one and they won’t fear them. Good luck

Fluminox 5284 my mom absolutely hates snakes but she doesn’t know much about them like I do. I waited for my birthday and bought a snake. I have it to my friend. Then I had my friend come over and he brought me the snake in a box and we acted as if it was a birthday present from him. At first she demanded it would be kept outside but by the end of the day after learning that corn snakes aren’t poisonous and aren’t going to hurt her she allowed me to keep it in my room. Although she’s still nervous and makes me keep my door closed at all times, it’s way better than the outcome expected. Good luck convincing your parent and maybe do that same but if your birthday is too far use Christmas!

Hey, this video is very helpful, as I just got a hatchling cornsnake - she came from a breeder about she's about 12 weeks. Super tiny. I have a bearded dragon, and have been told by the breeder that for the time being, while she's in a small terrarium, it would be okay to have her on top of the beardie's viv to absorb the heat from that. Once she's bigger, she'll have a larger viv of her own. Would you say that was okay for the time being? Or should I go and get a heat mat?
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 4 года назад
First off, congratulations on your new corn snake! They truly are the best starter snake. To answer your question, I would suggest avoiding setting her on top of your lizards enclosure as you may not have a constant source of heat for the snake (The lizards lights go off at night and then the snake doesn't have a warmer area to attend to). You'd be better off using a heating pad controlled by a thermostat to ensure your snake has access to the temperatures it needs as opposed to "guessing" how warm the snake may get by placing it on top of the bearded dragon enclosure.

So is it fine that the probe is creating a gap between the heat mat and the enclosure?
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 5 лет назад
Yes, just make sure to adjust the thermostat so your corn snake is at the proper temperature. For example: Set the thermostat to keep the heat pad at 92 degrees Fahrenheit. Thus making the spot under the tub where the corn snake would sit being 86 degrees Fahrenheit. (Since the gap will allow some air flow, temperatures inside the tub will be cooler, this needing the heat mat set to a higher temperature.)
@ye5021
@ye5021 5 месяцев назад
Yo your not supposed to put the thermostat probe under the box like that
@LizaLavolta
@LizaLavolta 4 года назад
At what point do you upgrade them to a larger pad?
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 4 года назад
I upgrade the heat pad size according to the enclosure. For example: a 30”x12” terrarium May need a standard “medium” sized heating pad. Whereas a terrarium measuring 36”x18” would require a larger sized heating pad.
@xsnowdizzle6559
@xsnowdizzle6559 5 лет назад
The heat mat don’t melt the plastic tub?
@AlexsAgamids

As long as it’s on a thermostat to control the precise temperature. You’ll be perfectly fine!

@danruben1735 5 лет назад
Wromd you put heatmat on the enclosure them put prob inside enclosure
@AlexsAgamids

You can do that as well. But being that the hatchling enclosure is made of plastic. I wanted to have the thermostat probe directly in contact with the heat pad.

I got a baby corn snake from pet smart. And as I was transferring him to his new habitat he regurgitated. Is that because I just got him and he was threatened or afraid? I fed him a few hours after he regurgitated and he seems fine now. But any tips would be appreciated.
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 5 лет назад
The moment very likely stressed him out. I’d suggest that next time you feed the corn snake: feed it in its enclosure so it can eat at its pleasure, then hide to feel secure (this will reduce the risk of regurgitation)

the probe does not go on the heating pad it goes in the cage where the snake will be sitting to cuntrol the temp
@AlexsAgamids
@AlexsAgamids 3 года назад
While that is another great method! The only issue that can result from probe placement within the enclosure is that your snake may sit directly on the probe, thus the probe reads the body temperature of the snake and causing the heat source to overheat, leading to possible thermal burns.
