Good Video. That QSC amp has a built in XO. You can just flip a switch next to the inputs. You could skip the XO/you would loose some control, but it does the job. Also gain staging!!!! You don't need or want any amp cranked to 10. It's a process, every instrument down the line needs to be around "0" or unity(to start), where the input equals the output. Use meters and your ears to find where things peak or get distorted from signal source, to mixing boards, to amps, and finally to drivers. when it is staged properly you can crank the main fader on a mixing desk, before the amps, and get even more DBs when there is some headroom. If the amp is cranked it will never get louder, just crappier. You get more clean tones and more volume thru gain staging. Other people have said this way better than me. Research gain staging. That mono sub switch is cool too. Keeps the tops stereo, sums out of a single output. If you have two sub cabs just run them in series.

I am trying to figure out how to let my 15" 2 way main speakers go down to 50Hz & be able to allow my 2 Subs to play 30Hz as rated to overlap the mains up to 300Hz. Because the Mains have great punch when they hit 50 Hz. DBX didn't figure that one. I just got a new DBX 223XS & I also ordered a New line of XLR Cables from SVS who make Home Stereo Subs. I can say the SVS XLR is about a 1/3 overall improvement to my sound system, I had Peavey XLR 10' cables at less than half the $rice for the SVS. They are worth the extra $. Good vid. I am looking for what benefits I can get by adding built in Crossover to my 18" Subs. I see Most Crossovers in Speakers have Copper windings & the DBX has no Copper windings at all. I hope to learn this Crossover Science.

I have the same crossover, and my question is that why is that the low level knobs have to be almost at 90 pct wide open for the bass to be even heard. Compared it with an ashly 2 way and the bass knob on it is at 12 o clock, same db level with the dbx. same gain structure, just an A and B test.

Because the Ashly probably has a higher "signal to noise ratio" than the dbx,

Hey buddy I know this is video quite old but I came back to it because it helped me tremendously in the past. I was hoping you could help me with current setup and issue. I'm running 3 amps, crown 9000 (for subs) and 2 crown XTI 2000 (linked together for tops) with a 3 way behringer active crossover. I would like to know how to run my subwoofers on mono and my tops on left and right full range specifically. As I've found that when running subs on Chanel left and right with the tops I get good base However no mids from the tops! I have to turn the subwoofer gain up to get the mids I desire from my tops as all I hear is the compression drivers screaming. However this overdrives my subs. So I would like to run the sub mono 3 way wile using the tops on left and right that way I can use the low gain to turn the mids up on my top speakers not the subs. If you took the time to read all this much appreciated and looking forward to your help!

Currently, i am running R and L from mixer to each side of the Crossover....so Rt is to Ch 1 and Lt is to Ch 2. From there, I have the highs out from Ch 1 of the Xover to channel one of the amp, and Lows from Ch2 of the Xover to channel two of the amp.... is this the best setup I can configure? Thanks!

Quick question would the circuit breaker trip if you were to plug 8 power amplifiers into one breaker
@AVMEVideos
@AVMEVideos 3 года назад
i.e lets say each amp Max power is 500W so 8x500 = 4000W You would need a 16A circut breaker i.e 16Ax240V = 3840W Once power goes up 3840W the breaker would trip. Thea's why you need power conditioner ( surge protection and voltage regulator installed with your kit ) so it protects your kit. Power distribution should be discussed , design & implemented properly with an expert electrician , above is just any example for you to comprehend .

@AVMEVideos
@AVMEVideos 8 лет назад
+Raymond Nakamura , Crossover is just tool to forward high/mid and low frequencies to destined routes. To shape up the sound you need to apply effects like Dynamics( compressors , gate , deesser , limiter ) , Filters ( EQ , HPF , LPF) , Time based ( reverb , delay etc)Modulation ( phaser , chorus etc). Now a days a lot of digital mixers have variety of on board effects so no need to purchase dedicated effects units. A high end DSP unit comes with loads of effects as well.

@@AVMEVideos Yeah I understand that. I'm not saying outboard equipment is a bad thing, they often have useful features that integrated stuff doesn't. I certainly miss the ability to switch on/off sub or midrange frequencies with the push of a button if altering settings and comparing the sound, or if I don't want the subs on, just switching them off on the fly. Doing this now means messing around with gain controls lol.

Would a active cross over be needed with a intergrated amp 380 watts rms per channel and a power amp 900 watts per channel rms. I use instrumental woofers, no subs. The inzergrated amp is used to play 450 watt speaker for music listening and the power amp powers 900 watt 12" instrumental woofers. If have guests use both amps together to use for loud karaoke. No need the deep bass of sub woofers. Mostly just listening to top 40 pop music of karaoke singing.

the integrated amp driving the passive speakers ( speakers have tweeter and woofers ? )
@mikga45
@mikga45 8 месяцев назад
@@AVMEVideos yes 240 watts 6.5" mid and 3" 80 watt tweeter. The power amp is powering the large speakers, no sub woofers the 12" woofer is instrumental. The intergrated amp a joson Jupiter v1 is powering a pair of kevler kv 450 speakers. The power amp I think I'll keep the 400 watt live woofer 12". I was going to put a 900 watt instrumental 12" woofer I think that will be to much for the 900 watt challenger ca 9 power amp that is upgraded to 10 pair of transistors and 12 capacitors for a total of 900 watts RMS per channel. The sound speaker which the power amp will power is a 700 watt crown bf1268. Both of the 700 watt speakers have passive crossovers inside that control the mid and tweeter. Just did not know if an active crossover would be needed because I don't use sub woofers. The 12" instrumental woofers put out enough bass for me. I just wanted to know is it better to just link the 2 amps because I have no sub or would it be better to connect the 2 amps with active cross over. Both speakers have a 12" instrumental woofer and they both have good base. If I use an active crossover and make one channel low and the other high I will lose some of the base in the speaker hooked to high? Right now I have a 6 channel titanium mc6 mixer and a dbx 215s equalizer.

Hi, did you use 4 speakers? 2 for the lows and 2 for highs, or just one in each channel? Thanks.

hey buddy, thank you for the information loved it !!! im a bass player in a band and im looking after the sound, my issue is to take bass guitar and the electronic drums bass pedal to my bass bin, here is the setup 2 x Alto TS15 for Mids and tweeters, 1 x Alto TS 18 bass bin my mixer is Soundcraft UI16 digital mixer even tho its used the dbX plugin it still does not bring out the crossover perfectly, watching your vid explains how im going to get my sound clean and channel the correct frequency to the right speakers.. so getting the DBX 223XS will help me to get that perfect crossover sound right?

@AVMEVideos 8 лет назад
+Jacques van zijl , Yes this mixer does not have a built in dbx crossover signal processing , it only has dbx 4 band parametric EQ and dbx compressor/gate processing. You need a external crossover for what you are trying to achieve.

@djahoufe9411 9 лет назад
Hi please do you have to use compressors gate and limiters as well to protect the speakers or you can just run it with the active crossover and the EQ Thanks
@AVMEVideos
@AVMEVideos 9 лет назад
+DJ AHOUFE , Sorry for late reply , The dynamic tools like compressor , gate , Limmter & expansion are to setup thresholds and to control the input signal. For DJ the tracks you playback , the dynamic tools are already applied in studio during recording & mixing . Dynamic tools are more for Live sound like a band performing on stage or Live conferences , not playingback tracks. This applies to Spectral tools like EQ as well , the tracks are already EQd in studio so apply as less EQ as possible if needed. If you DJ indoors then only thing i would suggest to apply is Time based tools like Delay & Effects tools like reverb to better distribute and shape the sound according to the venue if using mobile DJ equipment. Hope this helps.

quick question.. what if i dont have a subwoofer how do i connect crossover to amplifier to speakers? do i connect the the low and high from crossover to one speaker?
@AVMEVideos
@AVMEVideos 8 лет назад
, you need speakers that support bi-amp . Also u would need two amps , then just follow the signal flow from crossover to amps to speakers as explained in the video. if ur speakers don't support bi-amp then no point using active crossover .

For a live band, are the mics suppose to go in the the subs? Or only the the top speakers? I'm using a active crossover as well, and I noticed the mics or always weak in the subs.

Depends are what the mics are doing. If the mic is a a vocal then no. If the mic is a kick drum then yes.

Question I have an titanium mc6 mixer and 2 amps. A challenger ca 9 the updated version with 10 pairs of zransitors and 12 capacitors watted at 900 watts rms per vhannel at 8 ohms and 1350 at 4 ohms. Second amp is a joson jupitor v1 at 380 rms per channel. I want to link that as my secondary amp it will be used mostly for listening to music outside in my make shift gym with 450 watt kevler kv 450 speakers. The jupitor has the mic pre amp that i use to song karaoke with. The new amp has no pre amp so i ordered and inline pre amp so i can go right in to the mixer without the intergrated amp. Why is the signal on the mixer so weak? Its the 3 rd mixer i have had and always end up using the mic output on intergrated amp. Its a shame cause the mixer has 256 effects for mic but weak signal cannot use my high power speakers wash out the sound plugging right in to mixer. But plugging into intergrated amp has power but i no longer can use the 256 effects on amp plugging mic into 8ntergratted amp and not mixer.
