How to setup and use another ford key if your is damaged 

Hi. I know this is an old video but I’m hoping you’ll see this comment. Thank you for posting this. You’ve just saved me £130 at Timpsons. My key fob became faulty on my 09 connect. I tried replacing the battery. No better. So I bought a replacement key from eBay for £10. Followed the fob programming from the van manual. The new key would then unlock the doors but not start the van. A red light on the dash would flash. Was about to get my pants pulled down by timpsons. Then found your video. Five minutes to dig out the chip and now my new £10 key works a treat. Thank you. Awesome video.

Just saved me a hell of a lot of money....bought a second hand key fob for £3, after my ford focus key fob mysteriously died after changing the battery...so been having to manually lock and unlock for the past few months. Followed your video and I have a working key again! Thankyou so much!

your a star bro...just saved me £90 ....got my replacement fob from the scrappy £3 out of a bucket of fobs .... did as you suggested... took a few goes but bong....press door lock button ....bong .... job done .... this works....thanks for posting

Top man! thanks for the video. I bought a replacement key case from ebay but afterward its didn't start but remote lock works. After watching your video, I realise I didn't take the infrared out.

This worked a treat thanks for posting. I can confirm you *can* just swap the back together with Transponder chip (l could’nt remove my chip as it was glued in) and snap together with new/donor buttons section then just push your old key onto it. The programming took some attempts but works l couldn’t be happier!

What an absolute legend 👍🏻👌🏻 my buttons have never worked on my key I’ve tried new batteries then played around with the contacts to the buttons and I gave up in the end thinking the key was knackered and just used it manually to lock and unlock and it’s the only one I got when I bought my van . Just followed your advice and now it works remotely 🤘🏻🙏🏻 thank you kind sir 👍🏻

Thanks, this worked for me, I had recalibrated the key no problem so that it would lock and unlock the car but it would not start, I swapped over the glass thing and that did it, key now working fine. Bought key on Amazon for £11.00. I have been without a fully working key for months if only I had known it was that easy.

I have a Ford Ka 2003. Remote was suddenly not working anymore. Tried the 4 times on and off. No sound, but the red light in the clock stayed red for some seconds and after that the remote works fine again! Thank you for the video!

Mate saved me £££s in mine, bought another blank key for £5 off eBay for my fiesta, programmed it and it locked but wouldn't start. Found your video and now it runs perfect, thanks again 😊

It's Called A Transponder Chip. Fine for all pre 2007. You can not do this for example with the blue key like on mk7 Transit. However this is a handy video that can save you pounds. You do not need to steal a key as breakers have tons & will only charge maybe a fiver.

Thank you for the video, but there are a few issues, not least that the key has no IR component at all. The glass transponder is an RFID chip that is linked to your ECU by a collar that wraps around the ignition barrel and needs to be in very close proximity to work. Different transponders can be programmed in, but that requires a special tool. The wireless circuit on the fob is linked to the 'Comfort Unit' that controls the central locking/doors etc. This can be programmed using the ignition sequence fairly easily. That is 433 mhz, again, not IR, which is why it can work in your pocket. The car doesnt need a wireless fob to run, it does need the RFID chip which is the immobiliser linked with that specific ECU.

Just got a key off eBay, the circuit board hasn't got all that the old one has on it, I've done what you said, replaced old chip thing in new key, (new key didn't come with nothing) when you turn the key on and off, do you have to do it slowly, or fast . I can't get mine to work 🙁

I know this is an old video (I'm posting on 31st Jan 2023), but this is the information I needed. My remote stopped working after a vattery change and just won't reprogram. The key still starts the car. I obtained a new key, which is now able to unlock the central locking but won't start the car. So your video shows how I can fix it. Thanks.

Try just swapping the battery side with the chip to the replacement no need to dig the chip out .

How about taking the key side that contains the battery and infrared chip and couple it with the other side gotten from the junk yard that the buttons?

Mondeo key, can you program the inferred on the key.

ive had this issue with ford mustangs for yrs. from 96 to the 2009 i have now, ive had 3 the top part ends up coming loose an out of 4 mustangs its happen on all or was already like this from the time i got it an i was lucky at times an was able to catch it an didnt lose the metal part of the key or the black plastic part but ive also not been so lucky an ended up losing the key an only have the black plastic part left on my keyring an in that case i had to hold the chip section up next to the ignition as i started the car with the original door and truck key, if u just used the door an trunk key it would start an then shut back off with the anti theft light flashing. just picked up a 2009 mustang gt about a week ago an it was the same way as the one i lost the metal part of the key with so they had the black plastic chip tapped to the door an trunk key, it works fine but its a sticky mess an its even worse for wear then the 96 gt i had cause the loop that u would attach the black plastic part to a key ring had been ripped off an this seems to be really common but i own 3d printers now when i didnt the last time i dealt with something like this so ive come up with a 3d model quick that will hold it all together as one piece an keep from having to worry about losing any of it but its what u would imagine it would be, really really thick cause its basiclly stacking 2 keys ontop of each other so id like to get my hands on one that i could start cutting away the plastic to see if i could at least get it back down to the original thickness and if i can manage that ill be extremely happy. but one of the reasons ive always had to do it this way was cause i was never able to get a key cut an programmed cause they always told me the car was to old to have it done so i was pretty much told to figure it out. i was always lucky enough that i could manage to keep the cars going but if this happen to someone who wasn't someone who dealt with cars alot they would be stranded. for anyone who has this issue ive had countless times an has 3d printers, www.thingiverse.com/thing:6145698 hers what i came up with to just to keep the parts together an usable like a normal key, the thinner u can get it the better just sand away the material thats not needed or reach out an i'll make the changes to the model itself if u manage to get it really thin plus id like to know how it goes for anyone who trys to remove as much plastic as they can from the chip side.

Is it ok to use a ford key that matches mine apart from the shank on donor key is flat where mine is round ?, great vid ;)

Hello sir, I want to make 2nd key bcs I lost the 2nd. So I purchased new remote 4rm Amazon. Remote is working new key is made by key maker. It opens the door with remote nd wt key but how to start the engine.. Does this remote comes wt the chip...? Waiting for ur rply. Thxs & Rgds

what if you just put together half of the original key with the IR sensor and the other half of the donor key with the buttons? I presume the radio sender for central locking is in the half with the buttons, not the half with the battery? Should work without having to get the IR sensor out?

What if you popped a new battery in the fob from the get go? No need to go nicking keys from a breakers .

I have a 57 plate focus with the door opening button not working. Brought a new fob and just used the button top half from the new fob and the bottom half of the old fob with the battery in and it works fine. You have to code the door locks by turning on and off 4 times in 6sec then theres a beeping noise and then pressing any button. Then there`s no reason to have to program the transponder (BOTTOM HALF) as you have used your old one and saves having to pay Ford to program it.

I think that you are wrong about the infra red (IR). I think that it is radio frequency (RF).

I just bought a 54 plate fiesta. I think at one point in its life it had a replacement drivers door. There is s key with buttons on that only open the drivers door and another normal key without buttons that opens the boot door and starts the engine. The buttons on the button key do not work at all what should I do?? I have to lock the passenger door from the inside because of the central locking not working
