would be great if you or someone did a video or review on Best radio(s) for FT-8. New or used, and what features or accessories needed. Kind of thing like weather a FT-710 vs a FT-101. and maybe even some good companion antennas or set ups.
I want to send CQ for a specific Country. I have tried creating a macro, or just enter in one of the 6 lines on the bottom right. When I do this I get this symbol "" with CQ_XXX in between the brackets. I can't seen to find any info in how do you do this correctly. I can see others who are doing it on my screen. I will give you the exact example. Give me an example how to type in CQ P43 xxxx FN41 xxxx would be my callsign Thanks, Ken
Now if only the USB sound card interface was built into the Xiegu...then it would potentially be one of the better QRP portable digital setups on the market.
im having the problem of signalink/ic7k trying to transmit for a couple seconds and shutting down. receive is fine, cat test ok ptt test ok too. you mentioned it in your vid and got me excited then didnt mention it again.. what was it?
Still Enjoying your video’s on the X5105 Josh 👍.. I will post a link to it to the group. You are more than welcome to do this your self when you record any that are related to this rig. 73 de Wayne 2e0bvj
I tried setting my IC-7300 up for FT8. While I can transmit the full 100W on SSB with no trouble... FT8 would consistently pop 5 of my circuit breakers every time I tried to transmit. They are the GFCI type. So I guess no digital modes for me. And no... I wasn't doing 100W on FT8.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Astron RS-35A. I think FT8 basically generates RFI "noise" as far as my GFCI stuff is concerned. Phone on SSB does not seem to have the same problem. I might be able to switch out the breakers for another style... but for me, not worth the effort. Plus, I think the GFCI breakers are "code" and I suspect that most electricians would not be ok with circumventing that.
How do I obtain the FT8 software and which one is best for beginners getting started? It appears that there are several options to choose from. WSJT-X, WSJT, MAP65, WSPR or SimJT? FT4? Which version? Cost? My mind is blown!
Great video thanks! Wondering if you have done any experimentation with the hackrf and connecting with WSTJX for FT8? If so could put do a video how it is connected and setup. Thanks George Alberta Canada 01/02/22 -35c
I have ppt transmit working and waterfall appear on fldigi app when I am trying psk31 on 40 m on my ft-450. Issue is I get garbage letters on receive. Any suggestions on what could be wrong. Regards.
You might pick up some garbage due to noise picked up on the radio. If you’re getting a lot of garbage try lowering the input volume some or the threshold for decoding in the app.
Excellent video. Could you further explain each of the connections to the X5105 and the CE-19 step-by-step? I am going to try to duplicate this set-up (if I can ever get the darn CAT connection to work). I have the cable that came with my X5105 for firmware updates. Is that the cable I should use for CAT? I also need to figure out why WSJT-X doesn't see my incoming audio. Fun, fun, fun. Love trying to figure all this out. :-)
@@HamRadioCrashCourse I'm back to trying the X5105 and CE-19 again. I have the audio cables, now I just need to figure out which connections on the CE-19 I should be using. I also got a WolphiLink. I'll try that too, but I'd like to be able to reliably use either and double my options. :-) Have you done much with JS8Call yet?
@@VideoENG Its either the acc or data port on the CE-19. You have to split that line to the input and output on the computer. I have a Y cable I use to do that.
Thanks so much for all of your very educational videos! I've learned so many great things. Question: I just received the Lab599 TX-500. Absolutely a fantastic QRP rig! It comes with a REM/DATA connector with no audio wires from the connector. The manual shows the wire configuration, but I have no clue how to solder the wires for the connector, or what type of wires I need. Do you know if someone makes these? I don't have a soldering iron small enough and I must admit, I really don't want to attempt this. Any leads on where I can purchase these pre-configured for the Lab599? Thanks in advance. 73 DE KL5CS
Where can I find this audio cable? Any TRS splitter comes up with mono outs, not two band like shown here, or can I simply use the mono to the sound card, and choose mono in wsjt-x?
Josh - you mentioned that on occasion you start the transmit but it stops after a quick moment. This happens all the time in WSPR mode and occasionally with FT8. What is the root cause here - How do I correct? KC1NRj
I am sure you know what you're talking about but I couldn't follow you. For example, you talked to testing the PTT connection but you never showed how. I was able to get my IC7000 connected and hit the test CAT button which worked, but I was never able to get the PTT Test button off of being grayed out
Maybe you could consider if you really need 60fps for a video like this. In my opinion it doesn't add anything at all to the video, yet it uses a lot more processing power to playback, and uses more bandwidth. My laptop was dropping frames badly trying to watch this video and I had to switch down to 480p, which is a shame when it's available in 1080p. 60fps is mostly only useful for videos with fast moving action.
Hoshnasi, I would love to see a set up with signalink. I'm trying digital with the x108g and cannot get it to connect in anyway. Any tips or help would be great
I managed to get it to hook up to FLdigi Rig Control as of now. None of my cords worked, until I used my Samsung phone cable. So, on the working on it category. I appreciate your help.
Can this be set up without the interface? I have an Icom ic746, can I use the c-IV cable to the PC and then an 8pin din to 3.5mm wire to the sound card dongle? But then only one 3.5mm will be plugged into the dongle. Can I buy this interface seperately or one like it?
Hey - THANKS! Now (after I get back from town) I gotta see what I can do about my IC718 and Win8.1 laptop! Tried before but had problems getting the audio in/out and haven't gotten back to it. Is it ok to set the radio power out to a much lower level, like 10-25 watts instead of the 100? Any pro/con comments on doing that? KF5AQF Jim
Fyi, The accessory/data cable for icoms will fit in the radio UPSIDE down. So ignore any markings on the cable itself and be sure to visually check the pins when inserting into the port to make sure they match up properly. This had me stumped for about 3 weeks. Hth
I have a FT-450d w/ a signalink setting up my radio with wsjt x when I test cat cont it turns green but when I test ptt it stay red and won't turn green and stop xmiting and yes radio is trnsmitting, I have to press the ptt test to make it stop. I let it run for 2 min. Any suggestions?
Yes, I use WSJT-X to control the rig via cat control. I purchased the MFJ interface to go from CAT cable to USB into the computer. Then I have another USB audio device (simple dongle) for the audio.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Thought you said you used the firmware update cable. I can not make the settings like yours. Instead of a Com port you have something put int there. It doesn't carry over under PTT control like your. Mine stays at COM1. Frustrating.
Can someone please help?? I've tried to get this connected to HRD and the WSPR software but with no luck. I connect the ACC cable to the CE-19, connect the AF CON from CE-19 to laptop audio in plug and Com out on x5105 to USB in on laptop. I set HRD to IC-7000 just as recommended but it never connects. With WSPR software, I get RigControl error. EDIT: Got HRD to connect but no PTT. What's the secret there?
wat the heck is ham lib? I cant pass the CAT test and it keeps mentioning ham lib. There should be a set up video before set ups for idiots who generally are idiots. Computers and radio don't work. Dongles just require more drivers that'll fuck up your computer and make things not work. Unfortunately there's really nobody to call for assistance, just more you tube videos that.i hope cover somethings over time.
