I'm glad you stopped by! Learn how to sew this book sleeve in under 30 minutes. Easy project, yet personalizing it is what makes it special! Protect the covers and pages of precious stories; perfect for a bibliophile or use it to protect a tablet.
Measure your books and/or tablet and make a variety of sizes for what you need. Be sure to add on an extra inch or two. This will allow for seam allowance, as well as extra room inside of the sleeve cover for a thicker book or tablet. The interface was cut one inch smaller on the width, as well as the length.
As you can tell from photos included in the video, I have made this project with different closures. To make closure changes to the book sleeve:

I'm so glad you included a tab! So many book sleeve tutorials don't have one. I've been watching many tutorials because I want to make my own sleeve. And I also Iove the bookmark idea to match. I've just got to figure out that outer pocket. Thanks for the tutorial 🖤
@SewnByNikki
@SewnByNikki Год назад
Let's see if I can explain the pocket ..... The outer pocket, just add on 12" X the width, then fold it in half. Add interface between it. Put wrong sides together so the right side of the fabric is on the outside. Sew 1/8' from the top (to create a pretty topstitch for top of pocket). Next, place it on top of the front panel. Right side of main panel should be facing you, then put pocket on top. Place the back panel pretty side face down. You now have a sandwich. Sew around all 3 sides. ------> Did that sound simple enough? : )

Thanks! Tucking it into the pocket makes it so convenient. I have also made a matching square/corner bookmark, to prevent folding pages into dog ears. : ) I attempt to find any way to use those scraps!

Pressing as you go and after you complete a project really improves the appearance it presents, especially if it’s to be a gift.

What are the measurements that you use to cut for the sleeves?

Hi Nikki! I’ve watched quite a few of these tutorials, and yours has been the most helpful. You throw in so many extra tips that people who have been sewing for a long time, sometimes forget less experienced sewers need. Thank you! I have a question, if I want to box the bottom of the book sleeve 1 1/2”, do I have to add another inch and a half to the height of the fabric when I cut it so it is still tall enough to cover the book?
@SewnByNikki
@SewnByNikki 6 месяцев назад
You are so welcome! Yes, I would add on to the measurements. Fabric cut to 8x10 covers a 6x9 book. That is what I mainly sew. The thicker the book, if the sleeve is not boxed, it takes away from the height, as the bottom would protrude to fit the book. Hope that helps! Thank you for your feedback!

Thank you Nikki for a great tutorial! I have so many family and friends who use a tablet and this would be perfect for both a book or their tablets! Your instructions were great and you are a pleasure to watch. I will be making some of these!

It would be great to see you do one of the fancy stitches as your “top stitch” which would add to our learning. 😁

Well done! Another great gift idea! Have you ever sewn the sticky Velcro pieces to make them more secure? Take care ❤️ 🇨🇦
@SewnByNikki
@SewnByNikki 4 года назад
I have yes. I just didn't want to show people that on video because if they cannot line up the needle with the thin seam area, outer edge of the velcro, their needle will get stuck in the prickly piece and the stickiness will make it hard to get the needle up and down - then affecting the tension. It is easy to sew on if you use SEW ON velcro! : ) Also, I am putting out a few videos of holiday gifts to sew in under 30 minutes, over the next few weeks so stay tuned. : ) Thanks for watching!

: ) Thank you!!! I actually chopped off a good portion of my finger with the rotary cutter..... Didn't know how it got bent - which made it veer off course from the ruler but I trashed it and purchased another! that HURT! :( Thank you!!!

Hello Jade. This would determine the type of fabric labels you have. I will do that because I have several on hand. No problem.

You poor thing you always have bandaids on your fingers!!! I’d love you learn to make this with a boxed bottom and zipper closure. Is there a reason why finding a zipper closure so hard for book sleeve? Did someone patent the zippered closure?

Hi, thank you very much for the tutorial ! Would it be a catastrophe if I did it without fusible fleece ?
@SewnByNikki

You don't have to use the fusible fleece but remember, the goal is to add a bit of padding to the pouch.....

What are the suggested measurements
@SewnByNikki

This would depend on your book. The one I sewed here, the fabric, when cut measures 8x10.

By any chance you have a video where you add a zipper pocket to this book sleeve?
@SewnByNikki
@SewnByNikki 3 года назад
No. I only added a pocket on to it. Are you referring to adding a zipper to the top? If so, you can use instructions for a zipper pouch and apply a zipper that way..... It would be the same.

Good video, but you say "What we're going to do is, we're going to..." and "I'm going to..." and "We're going to..." waaay too many times.
