My daughter and I spent a lovely afternoon making a skirt together. She is thrilled with it meanwhile I'm amazed we managed it with my basic skills. Thank you
That is such cute fabric for a skirt for your toddler!! She’s going to love it. When I make things like that for my grandchildren I usually go to Michael’s and get a t-shirt that matches the skirt or pants or shorts and put a little patch on the shirt to match. In this case I would cut out a donut and appliqué it to the t-shirt!! Such a cute skirt and a great video - thank you!
What a wonderful tutorial! You explain and show everything so clearly 👏. I'm completely new to sewing and everyone says to not immediately start by trying to make clothing, but to do something simple first. Well, I think your tutorial might actually be perfect for a complete beginner and it's... a wonderful piece of clothing. 😊 I'm gonna try it, thanks so much!
@@tiinywa6315 If you want a more fitted waistband you will have to add a zipper to the skirt seam, gather the fabric onto the waistband and add a buttonhole or hook for closure. It's not hard, but takes a little more work. Get that sewing machine out and have fun learning something new!
You are so awesome, you endeavor to bring tutorials that are easy , simple projects anyone can do and with creativity , we could mix and match and put together and create a garment that can be gorgeous, thank you!
Hello Alisa! I really like the pattern, it's beautiful. And the skirt is so easy. You always come with a different topic. You're inspiration for me. Thanks.
I DIDDDDDD IIITTTTT I used this video to make an Izar (Muslim Attire) for my son. Thank you SO MUCH I wish I could post a pic for you to see my finish product 😊. I subscribed and will be using your channel to start my sewing journey.
That's great! I normally gather the fabric first and add a waistband. This is a much simpler alternative! I also do the hack at the end, sewing across the elastic to stop it twisting! I made it up but you also do it! I bet thousands of people do it, because it just works!
Yes, ma'am! She does - she is currently into dress up stage (toddlers, you know how it is....) and with pants she sometimes ends up with two legs in one pant leg, so... skirts are easier, he he ;) great scrap buster too, if sewn for little ones.
That's exactly what I was thinking with this tutorial - easy, yet practical and wearable. And.... Artemis is into dress up right now, so I can use my scraps for these little skirts for her and keep her busy for a bit :)
Very helpful the tip about of much of width we need for the waist and the elastic final stiches was very helpful.. since the other day I attend to a gather skirt .. it came out very square on waist it did not gather much.. I was very disappointed. And it was left in much closet ... These two tips you now mentioned for sure will help me ... Thank you Alisa 👍😍🧵😊🙋🏻♀️
I make tons of play skirts for the dress up box for my daughter's PreK class. I use remnants and fancy used clothes from thrift stores. I have even repurposed lace curtains. ( all gently used fabrics) For cutting cottons I use the rip method to get straight of grain.... much faster. For fancy fabrics I use rotary cutter and quilting ruler. I love this style of garment sewing because it is fast and easy. Love your serger hints because I just got one and am learning to use it. Thanks for your videos I can see they will help me in the future.
I just joined your membership! Your tutorials are so so helpful!! I have made myself a t-shirt dress from scratch with your knit t-shirt tutorial and got tons of compliments! And I am making this skirt for my daughter right now! :) I am a beginner and was afraid of sewing for a long time! Thank you for making relatable videos and being so kind and encouraging through the whole process - it’s like having a friend helping me in person!!

if i can do it then you can do it as well,at the beginning of all the videos, always gives me inspiration! 😂 i made my first draft.. tossed it on the ground and 5 minutes later i remember you saying “dont give up find out what went wrong” now i have a perfectly fitting draft! 💕 your videos are the only ones i can seem to understand ,thank you so much for being the person you are ,you truly are amazing and talented ,also great with fashion choices!
Another adorable project that is great for all ages, different fabrics, etc....looking forward to doing mine over the weekend!! Thank you as always...Easy, breezy....oh the twisted elastic, thank you 😊
For the quarter inch turn down on waist and hem I have learned in my sewing class to use Wonder tape. It works pretty good. You have to get used yo it. It later washes out.
This is a very nice tutorial, and loved your tip in the end, but I'm a newbie and I believe is easier to me to sew a rectangle first, so would be ok if I sew the hem and the elastic tunnel before closing the side?
I LOVE THIS. I CAN'T WAIT TO MAKE MY 3 GRAND DAUGHTERS THESE SKIRTS. THEY WILL LOVE THEM. THANKS. WHAT IRON IS THAT YOU USE. I NEED A NEW STEAM IRON, MINE OF 40 YEARS STOPPED STEAMING ALTHOUGH IT STILL GETS HOT ENOUGH TO IRON, BUT I ALSO WANT STEAM. THANKS. PLEASE REPLY.
Hi ma'am I'm from Philippines I love watching your videos repeatedly it's a lot of things ideas and tips you shared.. sometimes i Cannot understand the word you say because it's so faster.. sorry couse I am a tagalog language but i also understand English.. 🙂 so when I cannot understand the words you say I just reduce the speed of the video.. and that's it I understand.. thank you for your kindness
Alisa, serious question this time, do you have any good resources for sewing a mens pocket t-shirt. my dad wants me to turn a long sleeve tshirt into short sleeve and use the cut off fabric to sew a pocket on the front. i want to get the proportions right.
I have never sewed before. I bought a machine to learn, just so I can make a skirt for my granddaughter. Do I have to use elastic, or could I use cord for a drawing??
Georgiana, you can - however that is the method that I would never use, as it really does not provide much of finishing of the edges, and with time it will unravel anyway. Hope this helps!
Hi what serger do you use and sewing machine. Love the skirt however I have a bit of a stomach can I just use my waist measurements without multiply by 2? I really want to make this skirt. Thank you so much for sharing you talent for sewing.
Question .. I sewn a gather skirt with a fabric similar to Drill fabric.. it ended up bulky in front and in the back... Is there a solution for this .. very disappointed ☹️.. pls advise
You're such a lady. I love how gently you speak. So rare in today's world. P.S. i am the complete opposite and I wish i wasn't. That said, today is a great day for a dirndl
Esther, I think we all bring something to the table, the key is in the good intentions, then I think all is good :) thank you for your kind word AND... isn't any day a good day for dirndl? :D
