Thank You 💐 Thank You I not only finished 2 "Trial" towels by using an old hand towel🎉 BUT🎉... Learned how to use my Auto-Buttonholer. Last, but not least, I learned what that funny Blue presser foot was for 😂 Yes, I did attach my very first button via machine after 56 years of sewing🎉 Thanks again for this Tutorial❣️ It was Beyond Excellent 💖

Thank you Debbie, for making the old fashioned versions my Grandma used to have in her kitchen. I don’t care for the modern square type that everyone seems to be doing. Thank you very much. Oh and I love the color choices you picked.

The best tutorial I have seen on making a towel holder and I have watched 90% of the tutorials. Yours is definitely the best and I will be making these for christmas. I made a pattern which I changed the top to have a point on the hanger much like a pocket on a western shirt.

thank you for all of your explanations. But since I'm a beginner, I had to go look up a video that explained what you were doing or rather HOW you did the basting and gathering on the towel. Other than that, I love your videos and plan on doing a few of these projects (towels, basket, purse). So again, thank you.

Nice 👍 really clear instructions! Thanks. It would be fun to have a blue button for the pink-view flap closure, as contrast. Mr. Domestic more recently (in last couple years) posted a similar tutorial but for gathering the towel use the machine to handle all gathering. Advantage to the old school method is more direct control on how the gathers are placed.

Interesting! Cutting the towel in half first wouldn't have occurred to me. Nice tip on how to align the button before sewing it on, too. I'm glad to have found this video; the sewist from whom I used to buy pot holders, hanging towels, and aprons moved to the other side of the country (I know, how very dare of her, LOL!) so I'm using RU-vid to learn how to make my own. Your tutorial is very clear; now I just need to buy some towels so I can add the toppers to them 🙂

@@leighreid1476 I had an old one that was damaged, so I took the towel off it and traced around it to make a template. It's about 10" tall, and 8" across the bottom.

The bobbin thread gathers better than the top thread. Also two rows of gathering stitches prevents most of the thread breakage. Rather than gathering the terrycloth, I like to pleat the toweling. It’s less bulky.

I use a couple of rows of gathering seams for strength and one can also use nylon thread in this case because it will slide in the towel fibers easier.

Using button thread in your bobbin works fabulously when gathering. No wax, little fraying, and strong enough to gather without breaking.

I am an advanced seamstress with many years of experience. I liked your ideas very much but would suggest stitching at least 2 rows of gathering threads. That will do 2 things. One, it will help avoid a disappointing break. Two, it will give you a nicer band for attaching.

Such an easy process. Wonderful video!! While viewing your video I had a thought. Instead of using a button why not replace with velcro? Still using the button on the front and sewing velcro on the underside of the flap instead of the buttonhole . Then the other velcro piece where the button would have gone. Whew. Just a thought.

I’ve used some with Velcro. Easy process, but is areal mess in the wash attaching to other objects. Decided I’d never use the Velcro.
