Making DIY cloth napkins are quick and easy when you use a serger sewing machine. This tutorial will show how to make cloth napkins using a serger rolled hem and stretchy thread.
The stretch thread helps to cover the edge completely and gives the napkin a nice finished look.
We selected some Christmas holiday fabric for our napkins, but these could be made for any holiday or as everyday cloth napkins. Select some fabric to match your decor and make a stack to use everyday!

I have a new 4-thread Bernina, and for my machine they recommend the right needle is used versus the left. Did you use the left needle for a slightly larger stitch?

Thanks for your question! Yes, for a standard rolled hem you take out the left needle. See my upcoming video releasing on Saturday! For this project, I wanted a wider hem to show so I used the left needle instead of the right.

Is this settings from all serger? i have a brother

I would think that the settings would be close to the same for other brands of sergers. Test it on a scrap piece of fabric first to see if the stitches look the same. I also don't know if others have the rolled hem lever and this could be different on your machine. Happy Serging!

If I used regular serger thread, rather than stretch thread, how would that affect the needed tension on each dial? Thanks for the video.

Hi! This is using a rolled hem. I have another video for rolled hem that gives you the settings for the regular thread. You can see it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XY4EMPny3o4.html Happy Sewing!

I tried and it looks sooo beautiful BUT, some spots on it look messy… like tiny balls of my fabric showing… I tried changing settings, but nothing really seem to work. The hem looks beautiful but there is tiny fabric showins and after washing looks very very messy.

Sorry to hear that! I wonder is it maybe folding too much fabric under and it's not being fully covered by the stitch? My problem sometimes is that I go off the edge so it doesn't stitch fully on the fabric.

I don't understand your question?

Thank you for answering me. I saw the additional video how to tie your quilt. It showed hoe to use floss to tie each square. I understand now. My grandmother tied her quilts with yarn. I love your video. They are concise and precise and I learn so much

Do you absolutely need to have stretchy thread? I have all regular thread
@Needlepointers
@Needlepointers Год назад
I haven't made them with regular thread but it should work. It may not completely cover and fill in like the stretch thread does. You could try it on some scrap or extra fabric and see how it looks. If you like the look, go ahead with it! If you would like to find sources for stretch thread, check near the end of our written tutorial here: www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=520
