You did a really good explanation of finishing the French seam over a split opening. I’ve read it before but could not wrap my head around it. I’ve got it now!

I'm in love with that fabric and I missed what it is. You are an excellent instructor - very listener compatible. Thanks for the bias tape stretch tip I like the larger straps as they can hide bra straps

Yeah! I've got the pattern and the fabric. Perfect timing! Tip for cutting the bias tape: drape it over the end of your ironing board so you only cut through one-layer. I've ruined a couple of continuous bias tape by cutting both layers.

Thank you , Ann! That is a great tip! I was struggling trying not to cut through the two layers, actually!

Gah! I'm so excited to make this. 🤩 That's a brilliant little trick with the slit finishing with french seams. Such a nice finish! And THANK YOU for the shout out! 🥰 All the bias all the time! 🙌

I'm making this right now in a vintage viscose-y/cottony fabric. I cut it a little wider than I needed (erring on the side of caution) and ended up adding one more tuck on each side. This worked out for me because I prefer the fuller volume. I also unstitched the tucks on the front bodice so they end three inches higher. I should have realized sooner that I'd do this since I prefer a waist that a little empire-style. But it is an easily modifiable part of the pattern.

I just made this version in a white viscose linen. I had to line it, so i sewed the tucks and then used that as a template for the lining and lined it until the slit. I love how it turned out and sewing the tucks was so enjoyable! ❤

I absolutely love this, kept thinking about it after you posted, and bought the pattern last night. I want more shoulder coverage (personal preference) so I’m going use my own bodice block to add a scoop neckline and shoulder seams. Your finishes are always outstanding, and I love the way you sewed the side slits. I learn so much from your channel🥰

I’m curious as to why you think it’s “too young” for you? I’m in my 60s and it’s a pretty basic dress, not tightly fitted or anything. You could always add a shelf bra or wear a strapless bra if needed. Now the “milkmaid” dress, puffy sleeve trend right now is definitely too young for me!

Great tutorial, Casey! I purchase the pattern the day I received the email. The continuous bias tape is a new technique for me. Question, what is the brand of the mini steam iron you use in this video? Thanks!

Thank you, Am! I think that little iron is a Dritz...it is so handy and I love it. I bought it for travel, but sometimes i actually prefer it over my big iron.
