My cutting table I also bought at Goodwill. It was a “bistro” table. I bought a sheet of fiberboard and placed it on top. To raise it to a decent height, I used bed raisers under each leg.
Yay for Pfaff! My mom got the Pfaff Creative 2.0 (so sewing machine with embroidery unit but not an embroidery machine) when that came out over 10 years ago and has now bought a new one since the motherboard of that one is broken and they’re not available anymore. It does still sew though, it just can’t “follow” anymore when it’s used intensely and will mess up but after a good maintenance check will work again so I will get that one. Just need to go stay with my mom so she can explain how everything works. I will be keeping the manual old mechanical Pfaff though that I previously got from my mom -which she had bought to take with her when following workshops but when my beginner simple Singer was kinda used up, she gifting that old one to me. These days I am busy designing what I would find the easiest dresses for double gauze that look good on me. If they don’t look good enough it’s still great to wear at home (disabled, don’t go out much) so it’s never a waste and I love brainstorming and experimenting more than printing out and using patterns lol
Another great video Casey! I love the dress and your sew along... I'm SO with you on pockets in seam! I dislike anything that detracts from the style lines especially that could potentially add extra bulk in the hip area..
New sub! This is helpful advice, especially the remark about how the desire to sew ebbs and flows. Yes ma'am, just tidy up when you're not in the mood to sew. Your space probably needs it and that's why you don't want to be there. It will become interesting again before you know it. Something something makes the heart grow fonder and all that.
Hi, Just a slightly different view for you to contemplate. Sewing doesn't quite look like your hobby. It might be a passion, but also very much looks like your best job in the world. Congratulations. I hope your health is where you hoped it would be. Yours, Ann
I have never seen an invisible zipper installed that way- it is different from the instructions that come with the invisible zipper. But it looks like you have so much more control over the finished zipper, that I will try this next time I install one. [My granddaughters (8 and 9) think it is funny that we call them invisible zippers because you can actually see them inside the dress. I think they were expecting something akin to the emperor's new clothes.] You demonstrate and explain your techniques very well and your garments are just wonderful.
Would it ruin the hang of the bias-cut dress if I were to apply a slim line of interfacing to both centre back seam edges, underneath the invisible zipper, to alleviate waviness along the centre back seam? I'm not used to sewing bias-cut garments and am not having much success limiting a wavy seam in this area.
Wow! You’re a terrific advertisement for this pattern. Looks fabulous on you. Tell me, I’m 74. Would. It be possible to add sleeves to this dress? At my age, I pprefer not to show my upper arms.
gorgeous, make a short version with just a little more Aline and it wil be MOD. so glad to see the method to attach the shoulders- wish that was more commonly shown as it is the best method!
Wow! Your project turned out great! I absolutely love the way you merged the colors in your room in a way that unifies your art with your space. I have no idea why, but looking at it is reminiscent of standing in a clearing in the woods…to me anyway. Congratulations. Not only are you very creative, but I love the way you executed the mounting and framing.
The dyeing on your shirt is interesting. I also use DyeMore, but with room temperature 90% alcohol - to dye my synthetic wigs! A brassy blond mistake purchase can be toned to a nicer blond with purple dye. The wigs I buy are synthetic, not human hair. Basically plastic hair. Your tutorials are priceless. I am now going to shorten some pants. Thank you!
Looked here and will view for help! Please do video on how to add various styles of collars to Tee Shirts. Thanks! I have viewed lots of videos on sewing collars but just can't figure out how to get the right circumference, curve, etc.
So interesting to see the comparison of the same pattern and fabric with one version cut on the bias and the other on the straight of grain. Thanks for showing that! They both look super cute.
One of the things I like about linen and other natural fibers is that they have their own character...that is; wrinkles, slubs, little bumps in the weave and color variation in yardage that you work with or lose the beauty. I love this pretty dress. Thank you for your hard work and for sharing your knowledge. You are wonderful!
It's good to see you, Casey! I agree with you so completely about the pockets. I never put them in dresses, or even in gathered skirts where there is technically room. When I did put pockets into some lightweight rayon shorts I made, I found that my phone swinging around in there just annoys me, so not a win either 😂 Love the rust-coloured dress you were wearing towards the end of the video!
Three things: Thing 1, I love your style esthetic. Thing 2, I am addicted to the Fabric Store linen--beware! Thing 3, when you are finished with your move, treat yourself by making a throw for your sofa out of the Textured Jacquard Scroll linen (IL002) I used 2 yards.
Casey! Lovely pattern and dresses. Just bought it! Wondering if all versions on your website are bias cut? Also are all the solid color dresses (black, blue and red) made of linen? Is the long print rayon, by chance? Trying to identify the fabric and direction to take! Thanks ❤🎉❤
Wow,I just found your channel and I’m loving it!!! I’ve been binge watching before I turn the lights out, but in truth I want to keep watching for a couple more hours!! Haha! Thanks for such a great sewing/thrifting channel, two of my favorite things to do……..
Gorgeous dress. Excited about your move. Great opportunity to purge 😀. Can’t wait to see the video of setting up your new sewing room. Pace yourself on the packing!
Great video. Very easy to follow. I haven’t seen sewing techniques like these in almost 50 years. Thank you for the reminder of how we used to produce beautiful clothing on the kitchen table. I’ve been sitting on a glorious piece of linen for almost 10 years waiting for a bias cut pattern but have waited in vain. I can’t wait to start.
Great video! Very cool to know the how-and-why of your business. Also, you are an Architect…Architect of fab clothing! Love your channel and am going to order the great pattern for the blue linen dress you just featured . Thank you for sharing your tips and secrets to creating high quality garments.
