I’m SO glad I found your channel when I did. My body is a whole new shape than it was even 6 months ago and I’m jumping back into sewing, but I’m now finding that my newly plus size body has straight straight size proportions and I’ve been lost and discouraged. I just finished my knit bodice block and I’m so excited to make summer T’s and layering pieces with your incredibly approachable tutorials. Thank you for sharing!
I’ve been sewing for about 60 (!!) years and tonight I drafted my first pattern ever! I love your cardigan and hope mine comes out as cute. Thanks so much for your inspiration!💜💛💚
Not only do your videos give people clear set of principles to self draft an item, teh best part for me is that is shows me many possibilities for pattern hacks and how to do them. Thanks :)
Nancy, you hit the nail on the head - that's what I try to do to encourage people - to pattern hack, to think outside the box and have fun! So happy to read your comment! :)
So happy to have discovered your channel!!! I love that you’re demonstrating how draft a pattern from scratch. If only my local fabric store carried such a beautiful knit!
OMG you are my new favorite person to watch!! I saw you wearing something similar with these sleeves in another video and I thought to myself, “I bet she made that!!” And here I’ve found the video for it YAYAYYYYYY!!! I love the way you teach!! You are so thorough and detail oriented. And despite qualms about your voice (my voice is naturally similar), you didn’t let that stop you from sharing your wonderful talent. I love that you are self taught and your vision of relatability is totally what drew me to you… even the way you introduce your sponsorships. THANK YOU for all that you do. I’m a beginner and love Love LOVE your videos!! 🥰
Fabulous video! Your instructions and visuals are top notch! You remove the fear from self drafting. I love all of the full sleeve trends: bishop, puff and gathered, etc.
You've impressed me with this video. I've watched many of your videos and love it. But this has me excited. I can finally going to draft my own pattern. The steps you show are so clear you have me motivated to take the attempt. Thank you
Wowwww, that looks soooo nice & neatly made..!! Luvvvv it. I'm creating a sleeveless cardigan right now. Just gonna have a collar. For the summer time. To go with some flowy beach pants.
If i finish my stuff im working on today i will make this cardigan 🤗thank you again for the very explaining videos i was never able to make top pattern before properly ❤
Pavla, please accept my biggest CONGRATULATIONS! Wow, so happy for you! Babies are the best and sewing for your little one - oh, nothing can be better! I am so happy for you and excited to hear that you started sewing again! Again, many great wishes for the baby-to-come! :)
I have been looking for a cardigan pattern for a while now as I have a nice piece of fabric I want to turn into one and this one finally speaks to me! I want to change the sleeves though, but with all of your videos that I've watched I feel confident that I'll be able to do that. For now I have a few other projects to do before that. I'll make this cardigna out of a lighter fabric for summer evenings when it's just nice to have something to throw over your shoulders when it gets late and you're out with friends :) great video as allways!
I listen to your videos all day long at work. Even tho I cannot watch, I get a lot of good tips and make note of the videos I want to watch at home. I have a high-stress job, and just the sound of your voice relaxes me!! So for those full-time working sewists out there, even if you cannot watch Alisa, you will be surprised at how much you will pick up just listening. Sending warmest greetings to Alisa and all my sewing my friends!!
Susan, so sorry to hear that you have a high-stress job (I can relate), but I am really happy that these videos keep you company and help you relax! Thank you for this thoughtful comment and sending you sweet wishes as well!
OMG..😍 you're such a darling ,loving you and your work all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦 ... listen you are the best 👌no regrets even e sec following you here and on IG....thank you so much 💞
I love your videos! I followed a pattern to make a cardigan a while back. It was too difficult for me and it didn’t turn out well. You make drafting and sewing my own cardigan looks so doable. I’m so excited and can’t wait to try again!
Finding your channel is like finding a treasure!!! Such a fun and easy tutorial. I do however feel like the cuffs are difficult to sew given they’re a small loop, esp on a serger. I can imaging how tricky that would be fore me
Beautiful! And the idea of a mini capsule fascinates me. I would love to have a me made wardrobe and the only way I can see that going is capsule. Is there a capsule play list?
Oh your instructions are just fantastic - so easy to follow. Thank you for sharing this lovely project with us. I can't wait to try it in a lightweight stretch fabric. It's Autumn (Fall) in Australia, so just the perfect cardigan for the slightly cooler weather.
Cynthia, hi! Not a problem, at 00:28 in the video it says what fabric/stretch and at 8:23 I show a tag of this fabric that I got from fabric.com. Any medium weight knit would be good!
I would test the pattern first with some cheap non-stretch fabric first - because 1) although it is quite roomy - you need to make sure you can wear it comfortably without stretch 2) you need to make sure that heavy wool fabric falls nicely due to drop shoulder 3) test the bishop sleeve cuff so that you can get your hand in there without stretch
Hello hello, I see you have been binge watching, he he :) About the question - it depends, I have some VERY fine faux fur knit that would work for it, but regular faux fur you would buy at Jo-Ann's would be too thick, you would also need to line it.
Hi Alisa. Thank you again for the video. I am thinking of using this pattern to make a bath robe for my daughter. I would like to adjust to smaller width at the wrist. Can you please advise? Thanks alisa.
It is very simple, let's think about it - the sleeve is all one width, which starts at the shoulder. So to decrease the width at the wrist you either need to make the wrist smaller (just like in a regular sleeve, the tutorial is on the channel) and then connect the top of the sleeve with the bottom with a straight line, or you need to adjust the entire sleeve smaller in width. Remember that this garment is made from knit, so it stretches. Just take a piece of paper and draw it out in sma scale and think about the sleeve. It really is super simple.
tHE CARDIGAN IS GORGEOUS. i AM NOT FOND OF WEARING OPEN FRONTED CARDIS (oops - sorry for shouting - its dark in here and I can't see the keyboard!). I am too large to wear a belt. Would it be difficult to add fasteners/buttons to this style?
Hi! I had so much success with copying the pants pattern that I want to try this one! Would 2 yds/2 meters of fabric be enough to make this cardi? Thank you! :)
Samantha, hi! I think I did it out of 1.5 yds, but of course will depend on your measurements. My best tip is to make the pattern first and then lay it flat to see how much fabric you will need. I am sure you will make a beautiful cardigan!
@@MM-gr1bn just please watch the video again, everything is mentioned: at 0:32 READ what it says on the screen - it tells you what fabric you need to use, at 8:22 PAUSE the video and read the label - it tells you what fabric I used.
Hi I'm sorry I know this is 6 months old now, but I just found your channel. I am confused and this is how I mess up I think in the past with other you tubers. You take your largest measure and divide by 4. How does this allow for room to move in the item besides giving it some extra room to go over clothing you are wearing? Is there an amount being added that is not shown if so how much? Thank you
Okay, let's think for a minute. 1) Take your largest measurement between the 3 (bust, hips, waist), usually your hips will be the largest measurement, but not always 2) you're using knit fabric, which stretches 3) this is an open front cardigan 4) you're adding a band down the center front and the neckline that will also add width to it. If you're concerned about the amount of ease you need, then take more. I am using my hips measurement, which is 9.5" as it is largest of 3 (and my bust is 8.5" for comparison).
P.S: that's why making a sample garment, if you're drafting your own or working with a store bought pattern, is so VERY important, so you can experiment, practice, analyze and see what works and what doesn't.
