Love it when I find technicalities of materials explained in detail as a self taught sewist I find this information so helpful...that makes such a difference in my projects. Thank you.
im so glad i watched this!! i was just about to sew organza for a puff dress and i had NO idea about the needle size and special thread. Thank you so much!!
This is so helpful! Im working on creating a "shadow" ball gown using just black tulle and was struggling trying to figure out how to pin it for draping and I never thought about using paper! Thank you!
Thank u so much! I'm new at sewing and I've had so many questions that have just been answered by you only with one video especially what to use so my fabric wont get sucked into machine, which happens all the time but not anymore thanks to u. 😊 thank u so much again
its bookweek and I can't sew very well but stand back because if my boy wants a costume my boy gets a costume! thank you so much you may actually have saved me with this video no lie!
Thanks so much for the video! Beginner sewist and I'm trying to glean as much education as I can before I pursue making my wedding dress! I have a general idea of cotton voile as the lining, silk dupioni if I can afford silk (if not, then polyester dupioni perhaps), dainty floral printed chiffon or organza (torn between a couple patterns). On the fence atm about an off-white overlay to make the printed material seem even more subtle. Also debating on which color dupioni. So many choices! Trying to keep the design relatively simple, but hopefully forgiving-a circle skirt, which may or may not have a train, and ruching the sheer material over the bodice of dupioni, so as to hopefully mask imperfections in the construction of the bodice. I'm also debating whether to have the central dress with no train, just a circle skirt. But then have the sheer fabrics as their own skirt with train. So many choices! Wish I had the skills to sketch my ideas.
Thank you, I’m about to sew huge voile curtains and was looking for tips on needle choices, so. The tips on thread were very useful. Hope I can get Invisalign in the Uk!
I'm sewing some ugly sweater Christmas ornaments and I should have used felt but decided on a light with fabric for the sweater. Oh Well! We all learn! I'm trying the tissue paper trick right now!!
I could've used this a year ago 😭 The seasonal fabric I waited for over a year to get was finally back on the shelf; so here I am to take a proper crack at it- this duo-chrome sheer fabric will not best me! 💪🏻
Can you make a video on does and donts of upcycling fabrics and threads? I'm a new sewer, but have already compiled quite a bit of gifted fabrics and threads that are not lebled. I'm not sure what is alright to use with what, especially when it comes to thread and types or fabrics that work well with one another.
Im newish to sewing. Your tips have been brilliant thank you. I wonder if you cn help please. Id like to add embroidered tulle to another base to place inside a Denim Panel taking away the denims and replacing with the panel plus other fabric i.e. plain cotton so it shows the fabric underneath plus the tulle that has butterflies on. Which way would you suggest to attach the layers best please? Could i use the fabric as a stabiliser like you used the paper? Many Thanks
Sewing flower girl dresses for my twin granddaughters, 2 1/2 yrs old. The dresses are satin with a layered overskirt of embroidered tulle with an embroidered scalloped edging. I've sewn difficult fabrics before but really don't want to mess this up - I know ripping out mistakes will not be an option. I'm especially concerned about what happens when I get to the zipper. I'd like to use an invisible zipper if possible; I may try to do a test sample beforehand to find out what can go wrong.
Thank you for this helpful instructional video. Another video mentioned that only zigzag should be used to allow the fabric to stretch. Do you also recommend using zigzag? This was not mentioned so I'm not sure which stich to use. Thank you.
Great tips! Thank you! I must sew a gauze fabric, (not double gauze), and I am so scared….. I am gonna follow your advice… I wonder , if I can use overlock for the edge….
i bought some sheer curtains and they are 84 inches long but bought extra of them becasue i need to add on to them somehow to be at a lenghth of 120 inches . How do you suggest i do this? ty
That's a great question. We would actually recommend extending the fabric using a French seam. This is a way you can hide the raw edges in a little tidy pocket that looks professional. We actually have another tutorial showing you how to do this here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NC5XJPud0fs.html
I am trying to use a sheer fabric over pearl appliqué so that the appliqué is enclosed inside of the sheer fabric when the quilt gets washed or dried. I was thinking to use a queen size sheer fabric over my entire queen size quilt in order to accomplish that
I’m sewing a cheese cloth like fabric, and my machine will not stitch it at all. It seems the bobbin thread isn’t catching the top thread so nothing stays in the fabric. I know the timings right
A regular straight stitch will work just fine. Just remember to decrease your stitch length, especially if you're using the 80wt or 100wt thread to sew with .
You can always sew your seams in a French seam which hides the raw edges in a pocket, or you can serge the edges using the same threads featured in this video.
Hello, do u know does Heavy Duty machine will work better on light weight fabric? I have Singer 7285q it wouldn't move suck on bottom.😫I had just learned sewing during this pandemic to make facemask 😷
You don't need a heavy duty machine to sew light weight fabrics. If the fabric is sucking into the machine when you are starting to sew, you can try starting a little forward and then backstitching to cover the area behind, then sewing forward again. Sometimes there isn't enough stability at the very end of the fabric, that's why it gets pulled down. Hope this makes sense!
1.8 refers to the stitch length in millimeters. Most machines have it set at 2.0 as the standard stitch length, so lowering the stitch length to 1.8 is shortening it to 1.8 mm.
