Great tutorial!! Love the no fuss, clear basic instructions. I've used your advice to make a Korowai (New Zealand Maori Cloak) for our playgroup graduation❤
Our Gumby who was an Amazon and was 39 passed away September 30, so unexpected and so so so hard on our hearts. We thought we would leave before her….I saved every feather she dropped and want to make a memorial garment….thank you so much for this video 💚#gumbyluvforever
@@farizashar3600 omg what?? I bought 36 feathers for 24 cents, and not even that: my cousins grandpa owns a restaurant and they have a lot of chickens so yeaaah
Great tutorial! I was wondering; when you showed how to layer the feather trim, how do you hide your last layer's ribbon? You were seeing on the "right" side correct? Thanks!
Awesome information,I am sewing a garment of feathers that are on a trim and having trouble with my thread breaking, top and bobbin do I need a thicker thread ,I am using a bigger needle.
Awesome tutorial... 2 quick questions 1) How many feathers on average should I use to make a trim that's about 12 inches in length? 2) do you have any links for wholesale feather purchases?
+Shantz Collymore it really depends on how big your feathers are and how thick you want it. For 12" you'll probably use at least 30 but you can buy always buy a bag of cheap feathers at the local craft store just to experiment with. I haven't purchased feathers wholesale so sorry I don't have a recommendation on this.
+stvnixrcks yes, you can use as @sislertx suggested and use a sewing tape. I used a clear tape that wasn't very sticky at all. Also, dab a little bit of sewer's aid on the needle and this will help too. :)
Thread breaking, I forgot to add that my feathers have been glued and sewn onto trim and have just started using fingernail polish remover on the needle every time I have to re thread. Is this okay?
I want to add feathers to a silk romper I'm making for a fashion show. Would I sew them directly to the garment or on a separate piece of fabric and then sew that onto the garment?
+perry mackay hmmm...you can try using fabric glue. I like using the beacon brand. It works pretty well for me but I've never tried it for feathers. worth a shot though
maybe it test it on a sample and see if it works. I've had pretty good luck with beacon fabric glue so I'm thinking it'll be fine, it might just be a little more messy than tape. :)
if you use a wide zig zag stitch you can probably sew on a few feathers at once but you'll have to experiment with your machine to see what you can get away with
