This tutorial shares the technique I devised for making realistic looking wool feathers that contain a wire spine. The wire spine not only adds a natural detail to the feathers but also allows them to be posed in a variety of positions. I spent a long time thinking about how to achieve a thin, wired feather that could be made in multiple colours and in the end the solution I came up with was simple! These have a slight fluffy appearance and are great for adding to larger projects. The wire can be inserted and glued into position on needle felted sculptures too.
