切れなくなってきた菱ぎりを真似て研いでみました。砥石も同じ物を購入し、研いでみたところ、思いの外簡単に刃が付き、程よい穴が空けられました。大変参考になる動画をありがとうございました。

This was diamond shaped. But he chose to reshape to a flat awl. Like for French style pricking irons.

This shape (like a sword) is best for European style stitching as it makes less wide holes. The resulting shape of the hole is still a rhombus, just thinner, so the resulting stitching looks better.
