Sharpening Dies or Thread Chasers for Geometric Die Heads. This is a Geometric 9/16 D Die Head. I use the Die Head on my Turret Lathes. I make a nice jig to hold the Thread Chasers an duse my Surface Grinder for the grinding. This works great. This is well worth the effort since chasers are $100 to $200 a set. By sharpening you get a lot of life from them.

Used to work with various dieheads many years ago, Coventry, Landmatic, Namco, Wagner. The best were the Namco which had round chasers. Each type had it's own fixture for regrinding and as you say angles were different for each material.

This is great! I picked up a geometric die head recently, and despite being a God fearing American, I find myself wanting some metric dies but cant really find any. How difficult do you think making some would be? What steel would you recommend for this? Thanks!
@RRINTHESHOP
@RRINTHESHOP Год назад
They can be difficult to find. I get mine from MSC link: www.mscdirect.com/product/details/75242255 as a reference. Metric are even harder to find. I think they are made from HSS.

Randy there is a RU-vid channel called MUSEUM OF OUR INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE. It is mostly about Greenfield Ma. They have a video that was made in 1954 by the Geometric Tool Co. That was a very interesting and informative video. I liked the silent movie and piano music a big improvement over the techno music. Yuchol must of been hard on you. Thanks Andy

Hi Randy, somewhere i have the Coventry die head, that's the English style of chaser arrangement, made sharpening jig for their chasers, can't for the life of me remember where I put it but it is only a few years deep in the clutter so should be able to find it. When I do, would you like to see a run abound it? It might have some features you could copy, but i have to admit i have never used it myself so not particularly au fait with its finer points. ATB c

@@RRINTHESHOP When dovetail and circular forms are designed you have to account for the form deviation when top rake is applied. If you change the top rake the form will change.

Thanks for the video Randy, Just in time for I have a 10-32 die that is getting dull and I'll need it for an upcoming job and I had no idea on how to sharpen them. (can I borrow your pattern?) Some of my dies look like someone did them on the pedestal grinder!! Did you say that you had a PDF of the book?
