How to sharpen your pottery tools. In this video we will be going over how to clean/ buff/ sharpen your pottery trim tools and keep them nice and sharp. all you really need is a Dremel tool and the willingness to maybe burn your hands a little.
this one is a different episode as we are testing out memes ;)
let me know how you like them.

Thank you! I bought an entire studio of equipment from someone who bought it all used 5 years ago from a pro and then stored it. Everything is high quality and rusted and dull. This is very very useful.

As a former jeweler who had to file and file and file - never air file. Put either the tool or the dremel (I use a Flex Shaft) in a vise for accurate control, better edge etc. Thank your for your video.

Very helpful! I'm still using some beginner tools, but I've grown up quite a bit and have bought more advanced tools.

Donte makes dirty potter jokes all the time. Here I make a joke about pulling 6" and it goes over everyone's head. It's all about execution I guess :). Sweet video Donte. I need to sharpen all the tools I have. I've been trimming rock hard clay this week thanks to Ontario's dry ass weather.

Dante could you please make a video of how you made the plaster bat beneath the tools? I need to figure out how to make a small wedging surface for home.

Thumbs up. It´s better for the planet, it´s better for your wallet, it´s just better... to sharpen the tools you already have instead of buying new ones. I do it with my kitchen knives and scissors too but obviously not with a Dremel.

Shouldn't sharpen high carbon steel with a Dremel or grinding wheel, it heats the metal and ruins the tempering. Should hand sharpen all high carbon tools. Dolan tools has instructions on their website. I use a whetstone for mine! Dremel or grinding wheel are good for stainless tools though

You might have to take that one up with mudtools I got these instructions straight from their website the link is down below. I'm sure they'd love to know that

@@EarthNationCeramics I'm sure they know. It just makes the steel softer so you end up sharpening more often. Not a huge deal on the mudtools ones because there's a lot of steel to go through when sharpening, but the pear and other ribbon tools are thin so can't be sharpened too much

Yeah I noticed they would start to dig in the tools sooner or later so I tried to use a very light touch.
