Garden Answer says to cut them of at the main stem of the plant. Confused!

You have both options. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-37QLDhwcV8M.html Here is another Shasta Daisy Video if you are interested.

Helpful video. I have some Shasta daisies , have had them for a few years now, but their stems are just so long! Not sure why or how I can get them to grow shorter. If that makes sense lol
@MonekoStudio
@MonekoStudio 3 года назад
Thank you for this video! If the stems are woody (mine is very old) should I cut it down more after the flowers are spent? It's quite tall right now, almost 3 feet. Thanks!
@GreenBeeExplorer

Its up to you. If you see nodes don't cut to the bottom. If you see new growth then you can cut to the bottom.

When I deadhead I run my fingers through the center of the bloom. I don't even know if those would be considered seeds yet. I have never been able to get an answer on that. I'm a lazy throw stuff in the ground type of gardener. But my yard is full of plants and looks great. When neighbors ask me what type of plants I have I just shrug. I don't know if I will ever actually learn about the plants that I have; but I should try
@GreenBeeExplorer

Haha. I throw most of my plant cuttings and deadhead on the ground too. Quick compost. Try the app "picture this" to identify your plants.

There are many factors. What zone are you in? How deep did you bury it? Moist or dry soil?

I have hydrangeas right behind the Shasta Daisies but I can’t see them. Would it hurt the Daisies for next year if I now cut them back about 2 feet?
@GreenBeeExplorer
@GreenBeeExplorer 3 года назад
Once they bloom you can cut them back but make sure you leave a node .
@keithduff5971

@@GreenBeeExplorer how do I find the “node”?
@GreenBeeExplorer
@GreenBeeExplorer 3 года назад
Look for another stem or leaf developing. Those are nodes.

I deadhead my daisies and left the buds that I could see but none of the buds opened so I’ve been left with no flowers for the rest of the summer. Did I do something wrong?

So many things could be an issue. But give them time too.
