Very basic guide on how to start, shift, move and stop a Ducati Monster motorcycle - nothing new to most of you but maybe it would help someone :) The one I'm riding is a 2006 Ducati Monster 620 - at the time of making this video I've only been riding for a very short while.

a ducati is like a ferrari or a lamborghini. odd characteristics? yes. uncontrollable beast like tendencies? yes. ride it. live it. love it. you'll never want another bike. it kicks, growls and snarls at you, and you will come back for more.

You just summed it up pretty much perfectly. This machine is not for everyone. Obvioiusly if you just want something reliable with no issues or soul - you get a Japanese bike :P Gotta have the LOVE to get a Ducati and keep it.

I have a S2r 1000 the bike I had previously was an R6. This ducati has far more character than a Japanese bike could ever hope to have. When I set out to buy a bike I wanted something that spoke to my soul and this bike delivers in spades. My bike hates a constant speed and it love to get beat on, 4k-9k are just magic. It make funky noises, snaps crackles and pops. It's subtly styled and is obnoxious when you want it to be. I'll die on this bike before I sell it.

I feel like how to ride a Ducati should be more about it quirks and imperfections. Which add up to make it the most perfect machine. A plug at the end for the motorcycle safety foundation would be worthwhile.
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 5 лет назад
When I made that video I pretty much just started riding - so I actually had no business teaching anyone how to ride and didn't know much about the bike as of yet. MSF is also a good point - thats what I did and recommend it. I should do a new version of this vid, years later.
@revmatch8240

Ducati NYC Vlog apparently I don't know how to internet cause I didn't see this was years old. But yeah. A part two three years later would be cool. MSF is really great, any time I had to take time off from riding I'd take a course before getting back on a bike. It's crazy how much you forget/remember by takeing a refresher.
@Paulomico
@Paulomico 4 года назад
Man, it's not a wise idea to tell people to skip the rear brakes as much as possible only because the front brakes got aprox 70% of your braking power. When you're riding faster and you only use your front brakes, in the momentum of the stopping process, all the weight of the bike will be transfered to the front part of the bike, making your (i dont know in english the word for the bar that got the commands such as thr clutch, lights and the front brakes) really heavier and therefore harder to control. You guys should ALWAYS use both brakes.
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 4 года назад
you are 10000% correct and came just in time for my updated HOW TO RIDE video I posted yesterday - now that I've been riding for more than a year and I 100% recommend using both brakes. always. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--aP2yYaYC6o.html

@tamasbiro1364
@tamasbiro1364 4 года назад
@@ducatinyc My point here is, if you are a biker you should know the stronger bike is harder to handle. I recommend everyone to start on lower cc to learn than climb the ladder. I know many bikers who started on 600 or 1000 cc and tought if they can go by 300 km/h they are pro riders. And a lot of stores ended up in hospital, with serious injuries, because they could not control their beasts. It is easier to learn to ride, and corner on bikes with less power. Obviously you can start on 600 or 1000cc bike and you can learn but in my opinion it is dangerous. Im not saying you are wrong and Im glad if it worked out fine. I like your bike tbh and in my country we say to our fellow bikers "Have a wide road" Cheers

Absolutely. I started on this used 620 with zero riding experience. A 696 is just the newer slightly faster version of my bike. I say get one ASAP!!!!! :P Sup to fellow NYCer!

I am searching hard for a good one currently, will definitely link up with you as soon as i get it. What's a good price to miles ratio to look out for?
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 8 лет назад
EmporioArmaan my buddy is selling his 620 for 4200$. Not sure about miles. I got mine for 3,900$ with 1,400 miles - got lucky. Found it 6 hrs north in MA.

Great Video :D One question: why Do you Prefer ducati more than a Honda for example? ^^
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 8 лет назад
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Great question. I guess I just wanted something a bit more rare and special and I've always wanted a Ducati - Monster specifically. A Honda or Suzuki would be half the price and much cheaper to maintain but there is something extremely special about riding a rare beast like a Monster. Only 30k bikes were made that year by Ducati, and only like 20% of them were 620's that year - so there is only a few thousand of these out there. As opposed to a million Hondas made that year. :)

Ducati NYC Vlog Thanks for your answer! Yes i totally agree. Ducatis are just ...special ^^ I will buy a ducati monster in january 2017 too. I think it will be a 620 or maybe a s4r. Have a great day :D

yeah Ducati monsters are fast and mean but seat height is not a problem, the double exhaust looks awesome but you gotta be into naked bikes

The engine of a Duck is unique no matter the engine size.. I've had Cycle Mechanics and more seasoned riders come up to me in a restaurant when they see my gear on and ask if that was my Duck that they heard a moment ago. They are solid bikes and you know where your monies are going, but I would recommend doing 75% of your own maintenance if you could. But this is a great vid for someone whom is thinking about getting a Monster or just a straight up bike.

vassili1234 As far as I know, having the clutch partially engaged causes it to heat up and eventually burn out. That being said, do what ever you want. Your bike, your rules ;) Greetings from Coney Island!
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 9 лет назад
SimmanGodz Coney Island woot woot! :) Yea, i was doing all the extra clutching for demonstration. I don't normally ride with it engaged all the time. At the same time, don't want to pop that clutch out too fast, that's how wheelies and burnout drift starts happen. Thank you for watching!
@deans4x4
@deans4x4 9 лет назад
+SimmanGodz It really depends if you have a wet or dry clutch. A wet clutch is way more forgiving.
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 9 лет назад
+deans4x4 Yes, that is what I heard - wet clutch is a bit more forgiving. None the less, i think my clutch is slippin and is ruined :P

I got. Ducati 795 - but after 20km ish . The engine shuts off. Everything feels so hot. Am I riding wrong ? When is best to shift gears on a Ducati ?
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 3 года назад
Hmmm there has to be some other issue. Hmmmm. I'm sure you're not doing anything wrong and shifting fine. Obv shifting depends on your speed.
