You are so sweet to share all of that information. I think a lot of shops don’t share things because they probably think “well I had to do my research, you go do yours” lol like it took me 2 years in my business to get a rollo printer and realize I could save a TON of time and money taking care of all my labels at home and just dropping them off. I was curious about the rigid mailers on whether they could be considered flats. I’ll have to give that a try when I open my 2nd shop ☺️

Hi Jordan. I've tried twice to let you know that those postal measures are sold on ebay. Try typing in USPS letter measure shipping tool. Thank you for all of your information.
Non-machinable letters cost 0.99cents and you have to ask them to stamp the letter "non-machineable" in the post office. I've called, I've gone there, I've asked. If you don't pay the right amount and don't have the stamp, there is not guarantee they won't try to put it through the sorting machines. Moreover, I've had terrible luck with letters. USPS has lost around 10% of my letters, and since they don't scan them (even the pitney bowes letters that purport to have tracking), it always comes back to hurt me. Letters suck so much. The big problem I have with Etsy is that they make no distinction between First Class subcategories. You can offer First class Mail and... that's it. Is it a letter? Is it a package? Who knows! As such, there's no way to offer a Letter AND first class package. Say, for instance, I want to offer the cheap free option with less safety (a letter), and an upgrade option for safety and tracking (a package). Nope, no way to do this without jumping all the way straight up to Priority. So, on my listings, It's Free shipping with a letter and an upgrade to freakin $10 for priority. They seriously need to fix this. I've called and emailed them complaining about this and they just don't give a shit. They read from their script and ignore my questions.
I’m having an issues and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’m selling stickers packed in a simple envelope. In the Etsy store under packaging weight and size. When I type in the same dimension it’s saying shipping price is $4.00!!!! That’s ridiculous for a envelope and a stamp only cost 50 cents Does anyone know how to help. Please and thank you.

OMG! This was INCREDIBLY helpful! Any chance you know if there is a way to do Etsy CALCULATED shipping with letters or flats? So far, I haven't been able to find any resources. It looks like because you do all of yours as a flat rate, you avoid running into this problem! That's awesome! I do have some items in my shop that always have to ship in bubble mailers and some that always have to ship in flat photo mailers, so I'm curious if there is a way to set that up that you know of?? I'm asking you because your video is the only helpful thing I've been able to find regarding anything with letters or flats :)
Did etsy change the options under the drop down "package type"? 15:48 "letter" is not an option for me, i only have package/thick envelope, mailing tube, or roll. I've just been shipping with untracked postage for my other sticker orders, but i have an international order that i thought would be easier to buy a shipping label through etsy...can't get it to work though, it wants to charge almost $30 for a standard letter envelope lol
Jordan, really enjoying watching the videos. I am trying to print cards that are 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 flat cards and my printer is not cooperating nor does it look professional like yours. What types of printing services should I look into? Do you have local ones you use or are you using something online?

Nope, you don't have to do a stamp! If you are in the Etsy platform and it fits the requirement for a flat or a letter (even cheaper than the flat) you should see the option "letter" or "flat", this will let you print all of it right from the platform, even for the letters which cost less than $1. You don't have to purchase or use stamps or anything extra. I hope that makes sense! ❤️

Can you explain how I can test it? Anyway, can you just confirm for me if I am using the 8 x 6 x .50 rigid flat mailer (non-machinable), between 2-4 oz, selling greeting cards that can get a little puffy so according to the P.O. it’s considered a LARGE envelope because of the thickness, would I still use the “flat“ in Etsy and would I put in those dimensions to get a TRACKABLE label? If I put a 2 oz + a 1 oz stamp, as of 2/23/23, it would be $1.50. All of my listing descriptions say it is going non-tractable, so I would have to change all these listings as well. Really appreciate your help with this.
Ohhh good point! So a clarification that should have been made: if it is truly a nonbendable rigid mailer, it needs to be mailed as a package. If it bends and is flexible, it’s a flat. The rigid mailers I use have some give to them which makes them pass as a flat. Most rigid mailers do have some flexibility and bend to them and can pass as a flat. I’m sure there are some though that do not. ❤️

There are packaging supplies you can get free. You may do better shipping straight through usps because of their loyalty program. Also they have some boxes that is a flat rate no matter how much you put into those envelopes. If you want to talk more about this let me know and I will send you an email. I did send you an email.
