Rolling shots, aka sitting in a car and shooting another car while moving is a fantastic photo idea. However I personally do it slightly differently. Sit in the boot, camera on tripod and IS on, times of about 1/8 and just go crazy with the burst. You can be driving at 10 km/h and the shots looks really cool with lots of motion blur.
@BigShane1216
@BigShane1216 5 лет назад
MKSpots this works? My mentor tries to beat it into me that if you’re using a tripod your IS should be off. Something about overcompensating...🤷🏽‍♂️

Definitely good tips! I’ve started my photography career at car shows. It’s great because there are a lot of things to shoot, but it’s hard to manage the light, reflections, and people around the car. A good challenge but a lot of fun in my eyes. Thanks Chris!
@akellerseattle
@akellerseattle 6 лет назад
Generally a tip for moving shots or rollers is to match your shutter speed with the speed you're rolling at. So generally if you're going 60mph keep the speed at 1/60th for reference. I've almost always used the highway for a rolling spot and hang out of the car (no more than the waist) and keep the camera low. Just take a lot of photos and you're bound to get keepers. For locations just look at what people in your local scene are using and ask around. Car photography is a lot of fun (and lucrative) but it's all about locations and editing.

If this is *any* indication of what we plan on seeing in the immediate future -- then there is going to be a deliciously good run for this new series of clips! Really helpful to have seen this and now it explains to a considerable degree why the car commercial I'd done with SUBARU for their Crosstrek had the vehicle lined up so and so and so -- in retrospect, it now all makes sense. Great energy on the presentation, as well...it's going to be a terrific fall and winter!

Subbed!! Great info! Rollers are always my favorite to shoot. Behind in the trunk shoot at 24mm f5.6-8 1/25-1/30. Going around 25mph, High and low angles. CPLs are a life saver for automotive, bought b+w and it's insane when paired with my 24-70 or 70-200 2.8ii

Naming the angles earned you massive points plenty are like "yeah i shoot it here, and at this angle and yeah" using exact names helps viewers know the names so they can sound like they know what they're talkin about and and so they can piece term with technique.

I work at a salvage selling rebuildable cars and mostly shoot wrecked cars with limited time and space to do it in while also dealing with customers who sometimes get in the way of the shot. My boss once asked why I can't get the cars to look like the ones in the magazines (Car and driver, etc.) so I asked if I could have several hours to shoot each car and move them to a location away from the salvage. Anyhow, thanks for the video.

Great tips in here man! When I do driving/chase car shots, I usually shoot with a 14mm or 28mm at 1/60-1/100 and have gotten some super clean results! Anything under 1/60 is kinda unusable.
