I’ve been a photographer for over 50 years. I’ve had aperture and shutter priority cameras. I’ve used Kodachrome and Fujichrome as well as other type of print film. I say this to let you know I’ve had some experience. Now my comments. This was easily the best video I’ve seen about shooting in manual mode. Or any mode really. Well done you hit all the “side effects” clearly and efficiently.

@@HyunRalphJeong Fantastic Video mate. No job now, thanks to China. I'm thinking of getting into photography as a hobby. Not too much on my wallet, was wondering if it is good to get a Nikon D90 (body only) used with shutter count under 15k and a 35mm 1.8G prime lens to kick start. TIA

Another tip: If you're a beginner and don't want to do full manual all the time (as it can take multiple adjustments and trial and error to get just one good picture) use the shutter, aperture priority modes. Almost all DSLRs and mirrorless cameras have them and it can be a very effective way to get very creative shots. You adjust the aperture/shutter speed, and the camera auto adjusts the rest. Very useful in a pinch.

As a newbie photographer, I've watched several dozen videos explaining these things and had already gotten a good general grasp of the concepts, but I have to say yours is absolutely THE BEST. The way you explained it, the way you demonstrated it, and the graphic you used on the left were all brilliant. This proves why not everyone who masters something is good at teaching it - you definitely have the gift not only for photography but for teaching. Thanks so much! I'm gonna take a print screen of your graphic and print it and keep it with me as a great reminder tool.

This is probably the clearest and easiest explanation i've ever seen on how to shoot pictures in manual mode working with lens aperture, shutter speed and iso. It can take long time to get a sense of how those three things together affect the final picture, but you have managed to set everything quite straight in just ten minutes . Well done!

Unbelievable! I have been making pictures since I was 14. When I finally got a grip on it and how to use the settings the camera broke. Years later I went to school and I relearned everything 'the right way' I could just never get a clear explenation and kept mixing things up. I lost my interest for many years again but never the love. When I went to study again we had photography, and at that point I hated to listen to explenations and my camera had a lot of limitations. So because I got frustrated with digital I went back to film and loved every second of it. But because of my memory problems after a while I forget why I do settings and then forget how to balance them out. So every now and then I go online and look for clear explanations as refreshers but they only seem to make me more confused. And now I found this, I watched it and everything fell right back in to place. No more frustration ever, because I can always watch your video again, thank you so much 💕 no more feeling stupid, hell yeah

You are incredibly calm and highly focused. The way you explain things is very articulate. It reminds me of the time back in school when I used to tutor my classmates. What motivates me is that the class always fills up with students. Almost all of them show up early in the morning before the regular class begins whenever I schedule a tutoring session. I must say, you are a born lecturer. I started my journey in photography during the 9th grade, which was 15 years ago. I used to earn some money by taking pictures, mainly of students at the time. I wasn't driven by photography knowledge but by my skills in manipulating a simple camera. Since then, I've been capturing family moments and even photos of my kids. Just a day ago, I invested in a high-end camera, and now I'm eager to learn all the necessary photography skills. In this quest, I found RU-vid to be a valuable resource, and I stumbled upon your videos. Well done, Hyun! You truly deserve all the likes, shares, and comments for the sake of RU-vid's algorithm.

I'm new to photography and this is by far the most helpful video I've seen yet. Others spend most of the clip explaining just aperture setting, or just shutter speed with only a cursory explanation about how one affects the other. The manner in which these settings are blended together and how they impact the others is great. Thanks!

This video is a 10/10 for learning. I just got an Olympus EP3 and I’m very new. It seems to me the goal is to keep ISO as low as possible while maintaining the amount of light you want in the picture while balancing how you want the blur. Basically I try to set ISO under 600 if possible and the mess with aperture and shutter speed in any way possible while not losing the feel of what I’m trying to capture.
@palaashbarot5896
@palaashbarot5896 Год назад
Im a newbie too and I guess the hack is to first decide what shutter speed you want (which means, you gotta choose between whether you wanna capture a particular moment, where the shutter speed needs to be high, or whether you want to capture an extended time photo). Once that's set, you select the aperture depending on the object in your focus... And finally you select the ISO such that the photo has the minimum acceptable amount of brightness (or till the bar is 0.0)

I've just adopted you as my favorite teacher. You're the first one to paint a clear picture for me explaining what the settings do, how they do it, and the relationship between settings. Other people confuse the hell out of me.

Thank you! I’ve read and watched a lot of materials on Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO but it’s only watching this video that I understood the connection between the three. I’ll be shooting better from now on!

This is an incredibly well made video, walking through the process, step by step, showing how each thing effects the shot. It makes so much more sense now! I've been fiddling around trying to learn but you have explained this perfectly.

Omg!!! Thank you so much for this video. I’ve watched so many videos and was still so confused until I watch your video. Watched it once, love it. Watched it again and took notes. You broke it down and made it so easy to understand. I loved how you had the simulation on the left side, so easy to follow along and clearly understand. You are the G.O.A.T!!!!! 🙏🏽👏🏼🙌🏽

I would say that it’s still very tricky to understand all this. It takes practice by going out for it to become second nature.

@@NoName-jq7tj Oh, no doubt, but when you know better on what you need to focus, it is much easier to practice!

Best video on explaining the shooting modes and side effects! Clear, simple and fast! Well done pal! Now I'm again getting back some vibes to return to full manual mode, as I started this way when I first picked up a DSLR (started with a Nikon D80). In my case, I always try to maintain ISO below 600.

Most of my pics are taken on horseback so I purchased a relatively small Canon SX740HS that I can carry on my belt. I already have listened to a couple other vids explaining aperture, shutter speed and ISO but yours by far - with the side diagram showing the "interaction" between them - was the most easily understood. And I'm all about K.I.S.S. so your generalized comment about leaving the ISO as the last thing you want to change sure worked for me. I do see now why the larger cameras with all the dials easily accessible is a bit of a step up from my more cumbersome screen accessible options......except I needed something smaller so.......I am looking forward to experimenting with this new knowledge.
