To be honest, I am not someone who is going to be taking many photos on the bike - I just come for the fantastic and consistent quality of your videos! Keep doing what you love and sharing it because your content is top notch.
Great video! Enjoyed the photography and found myself having to re-watch sections a few times because I wasn't paying attention to the explanation, but the visuals🤣
Great series, Tristan. Love your attention to details. But honestly I'm surprised you never mentioned leg postiton and this is kind of crucial in my opinion. It effetcs how body posture is percieved by the viewer. Bad leg angle can ruin even the best photo. Basicly majority of your photo-examples have a slightly bend leg. This makes weird and unpleasent short-leg-long-body effect, it gets even worse with the upper camera angle. My personal trick is to pay close atention to the leg angles. There are two great leg postions: my fav is full down extension (i.e. 6 o'clock) and full bend (knee on the top tube ). It makes body geomtery look the best and adds to overal vibe of the picture. Cheers!
Dude, I have to be honest - your videos give me envy. I love the sun and cycling, and I live in a country with long and harsh winters in a big city where I have to get through a lot of traffic to get somewhere I can enjoy the ride. I have to find a way to reorganize my life and move into that video. Thanks - not only great photo-taking tips but also inspiration.
Thanks man. That sounds a little like the life I was living in Australia, without the long harsh winters. I was just sick of riding in traffic and found Girona provided everything I wanted. It’s worth taking the leap if you get the chance…
Thanks Tristan! It appears you're not using the selfie camera when filming video of yourself, but instead you're turning the backside of the phone (and thus the main lens) towards yourself? I'd love even some details and insights as to how you film the videos on your phone (not just photography). Like how often do you take your phone out, how long is a typical clip you film, how you postprocess them etc? Thanks again!
Excellent advice, much appreciated. Great shots, helps riding in Catalonia ! ever dropped your phone? I find them super slippy and difficult to hold securely off the bike, never mind descending one handed...
I’ve dropped it once, while getting it out of my back pocket in the rain before I had cargo bibs, about 5 years ago. I’ll probably roll out the door and drop it next ride now I’ve said this…😂
Thanks, Tristan, for another follow-up video. I have really learned some good tips and improved my photography skills. I wish I had known about that. Hey Siri, take a picture before, as that really helps. Also, when you're wearing gloves or it's raining. However, with that being said, with the iPhone 15 that I have now, you can just hold a button on the side, which is really nice. It's called the action button and it has one more zoom.
Before I purchased the new iPhone 15, I can't tell you how many times I have dropped my phone. Not because of the rain, but because of wearing gloves when it's cold. If I would've known about "Hey Siri, open your camera," that would have saved me so much money on broken phones and headaches. So, for people that don't have the iPhone 15, that's the best tip, in my opinion.
Great series, one thing I’d love to know, how would you take a self portrait? Currently I’m recording in slow motion and taking a screen snap. Not the best quality, but haven’t worked out a better way.
Thanks Tristan, I really enjoy your videos, I can’t believe your model never say hi… anyway thanks again and I hope to get some good photos like you do
Interested to know which way round you have your brake levers installed. I feel like grabbing at your front brake when shooting photos could go bad quick. Loved this series, appreciate you making it!
Best series out on cycling photography, I have learned so much and will be riding later in the day now for some epic light. Question in a few parts when you were taking photos were you hitting the volume button to take so many pics at once?
Man, light until after 7PM I would relish that right now. Here in US in Midwest sun barely stays up past 5PM currently. Are you shooting and holding the button on the side / top single button? Hard to tell as it appeared you were not quite bursting
Longer days are coming, thankfully. And yep, I shoot with the volume button a lot of the time - you can see the other method I use at different points in this video. I don’t use it on burst mode though, just individual clicks.
Hey Tristan great video as always random question can u please be my cycling coach I'm not training up to something i just want to get the best out of me and my bike. love ur work
Watching you grabbing your phone and rotating it into landscape mode, all one-handed while going downhill, gave me extreme anxiety. I wonder how many times have you dropped your phone...
