Your work is amazing! Thank you for proving to the naysayers (who likely haven’t even tried it) that a quality phone and gimbal are every bit as effective as a DSLR/mirrorless camera on a huge, heavy rig.
I love everything about your video. Can you please continue to show us in real time what the video looks like as you’re doing it? You started that way but didn’t do for every other shot. Thanks for taking the time to share. I appreciate it very much!!
Thanks so much! You mean like a POV behind the scenes and the shot as it’s being recorded ? Always hard to gauge how much to leave in/cut out to keep things moving and not too boring to watch!

Thank you for the informative video. I just started learning how to use the gimbal. Question for you: Do you use the DJI App at all? Or do you just film with the Iphone camera?
That was absolutely excellent! I am so new to photography. I have a Canon R10 mirrorless and a Samsung 23 Ultra. I seem to favor the 23 Ultra as my go-to camera. I am going to do my first real estate shoot this coming weekend. It's our own property we're selling in the Texas Hill Country - so I've got time. Your instructional will help me get what I need. Thank you. 🤙🙏
The tips and the full video were amazing I'm looking forward to applying them in my real estate business. what program do you recommend to use to edit my video's as a beginner? Thank you
Thanks! I would probably go with Final Cut Pro if you have a Mac. Or Adobe Premiere Pro if you already are using Adobe products. They're both pretty simple to get going in.
Thanks! For smartphone stuff, no. This one still works great, so no reason to upgrade. I don’t really do much with it though except some RU-vid content like this (I use a cinema camera for any client work).
Back to watch this again in preparation for two shoots coming up - and there are a ton of great pointers. Main one for me is S L O W movement! Your short, slow clips keep the momentum going instead of lengthy shots. A beautiful home and you captured the magic of the exterior with the brilliant red foliage. Thank you for sharing your tips!!!!
Have you tried using the DJI app? You can do micro adjustments to get it perfectly level. I usually end up having to rotate the footage some to correct in post too btw.
Hey Taylor, do you turn HDR off or anything on your phone? For some reason when I upload real estate videos and then look at them on a windows desktop or smart tv they don't have the same warmth. I don't know how to explain it. They almost look white washed
Hey! No I think it’s just something to do with different displays or converting it to rec709 automatically. I usually just color grade it and add a little bit of warmth and saturation + lower the exposure a little bit.
Definitely. I don't do it personally since I'm more into the cinematography side of things BUT I see lots of people posting on Facebook groups (and in my comments section + discord community) about It & they have happy clients. There are also plenty of social media / content production agencies running everything on smartphone setups these days.
Just getting started in real estate photography and really enjoying it, and videography is something I would love to add to my business in the future. I’m shocked how great the video came out just from an iPhone! Definitely going to keep this in mind when I eventually come around to making these kinds of videos!
Thanks Taylor, I know this was a year ago, but still a great video. Being new to the DJI Mobile 6 Gimbal, it would have been helpful to know your gimbal settings, i.e. mode or trigger technic on some of your shots. Oh, I see you've done a part II, so I'll check it out!
Thanks!! For phones mostly just tap the screen on the area I am prioritizing for exposure, and hold to lock it in! Sometimes that’s the window, sometimes the wall if I need to prioritize the interior in darker scenarios.
Thank you so much bro. It's very helpful. I got a quick question. As now vertical videos are getting trendy. Can you make a video on how to do the vertical real estate videos? It would be very helpful. I tried the vertical shot several times, but the feeling is not as the horizontal one. It feels so weird haha.
Hey! Yes! I’ve got the whole editing break down here if you want to check it out. You can also do it in a free mobile app called VN editor. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ilf_Tat8Yw.html
Hey Taylor, I am at the very beginning in that field and found your videos extremely helpful, however I have a question regarding settings - shooting on iPhone 14 pro, 4k60fps results in HEVC H.265 (as opposed to everything else - iPhone 30fps and drone footage - which come in H.264). Do you use any specific software to convert 265 to 264 in post processing, or do you edit them all together? I can imagine Premere Pro causing problems if I start mixing them up.
Great question. Pretty sure it will be fine though! If you can choose for it to be a .mov file that might help or worst case scenario you could alway create proxies before editing (in premiere - just right click on the selected footage in a bin and generate proxies at a low res) so you can manage the editing workflow better if it's too hard on your computer.
Thanks!! I attached the gimbal to a monopod & made it a 5ft pole. Fun for “fake drone” shots too for exteriors. Kinda tricky though since you can’t see the screen !
Hi... I would like to use your affiliate link for taking the time to create these videos. Wanted to ask what you would recommend, the DJI Mobile 6 or the DJI SE? Thanks very much. P.S. Do you use the selfie stick to capture any interesting RE shots?
Hey! So sorry for the delayed response. I sent one but it wasn't here when I checked just now. Thanks so much for wanting to go out of your way to help support the channel. If you used another link by now no worries it still means a lot :) Yes - I would definitely recommend the DJI OM6 for a phone gimbal. I still have the OM5 and it's been great. Selfie stick is great to get extended reach for shots too! DJI SE should be pretty good, but if you are able to swing it with the budget the Mini 3 or 4 pro would be (I think) a better long term investment. Better photo + video quality and you can shoot with it set for vertical which is just becoming more and more useful. Im sure you know this but in case it's part of your reasoning behind getting the smaller drone, you still have to get Part 107 for using any drone commercially even if it's under 250g (In The US at least).
Hello friend. I need to shoot a cottage with a swimming pool for an Instagram advertisement. What resolution do you recommend, with the fact that I will have a drone and a dji mobile 5 iphone 13.
Great Video Taylor! Wish I would of seen this week's ago. I'm curious if you have any videos like this with suburban homes that don't have much exterior scenery to capture? Thank you for your time!
Thank you for sharing this insightful video! Have you ever filmed an empty house? I'm curious about how you approach that situation and what tips you might have.
Modern, classical, jazz, future bass, etc. once you download a decent amount it will suggest good ones to you and gets faster. Now I mostly just download things from the suggestions and they’re great :)
Man, I was about to buy a Osmo Pocket but came across your video and now I’m def gonna get one of these gimbals instead. Really trying to start with small investments and roll everything into it. Great video.
Gosh. Thanks so much! I have 4 Airbnbs and live in a somewhat remote area. Getting a real estate photographer here is expensive and limited in variety. I'm hoping to find a video from you on editing now!
Glad to help ✌️ I have several on the channel if you look for them but here’s one for this particular edit : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ilf_Tat8Yw.htmlsi=tFGVzNH4fAFUgtYO
Hey Taylor, is there any reason for videos like this that you wouldn’t stack the clips in order to create more of a “walk through” feel instead of jumping around from room to room? Thanks for the content and sharing all your experience!
Just up to you, depending on your goals! Here's an older video I did breaking down my usual editing formula if you're interested :) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-isBnyh-ETc4.html
Perfect and real video, we saw a lot of shaken as your shoot. In general when you saw a lot of vidéo in other People in RU-vid you didn't see shaken whereas it's too complicated to not have shaken when you filmed with dj smooth
Awesome! I like Final Cut best but premiere pro is great too if you have a PC. Here’s the bts edit from This video if you want to see! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ilf_Tat8Yw.htmlsi=nj-tQeVQwbfKqHY9
Nice job! Two questions that I’m curious about. 1. Is there a reason why you use the phone camera instead of the DJI in-app camera? 2. Do you make any edits with the views as far as exposure, highlights, contrast, etc? Or do you just keep it raw from the phone video?
Hey! No not really, was just keeping it simple for this video. Check out this editing video for more details :) (it’s a full editing breakdown for this video) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ilf_Tat8Yw.html
Great question! Each shot is its own take unless there's some reason I decide to do a few in one. If you want to see the full editing breakdown for the video in this one check this out - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ilf_Tat8Yw.htmlsi=20C39XLvJJjOXXYI
Great question! I think it’s fine to treat them normally and mostly use wide angles so the viewer can imagine their stuff/life there. Window views, appliances, landscaping, interesting design features, built in’s etc. are good for detail shots 👌
Hey! Links are below. I did a full editing breakdown too if you want to check it out. I don't do it for client work (this was just for the RU-vid video). But there are plenty of people filming with iPhones for realtor clients that are happy with it.
Awesome! Glad to hear that. If you want to see the editing process I did a full editing breakdown a few videos after this one. Thumbnail is mostly my phone 👍
Thanks for your video! I have a client that shows his real estate videos that I filmed on tv every Sunday. I use a Ronin rs2 and a canon R. I really don’t like how the videos turn out. Some how I can’t get the windows and the interior look good, is either interior dark and nice window view or bright interior and blown out windows. Besides is getting way to heavy for a skinny 4’10 tall lady. My question is can I film with a phone and get it nice and good for TV?
Haha Thanks for sharing! A lot of that just depends on how bright the interior is in real life. Most cameras will have a hard time getting the interior and window view looking good unless it’s super bright inside (big windows or super bright led daylight bulbs inside). I’d go with 4k30fps HDR and that will probably be your best bet. Cinematic mode looks better but it’s easier to mess up and files are HUGE. How that helps !
Apart from this video, have you ever completed a paid RE video job with your iphone? I highly doubt you can ask for a decent price for service when you turn up with an iphone.
I prefer it (normal video mode) it’s Less likely to have the weird fake bokeh on the wrong parts of the image. But it can look cool some times (cinematic mode)
Hey! Check out this video for the full BTS edit - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ilf_Tat8Yw.htmlsi=20C39XLvJJjOXXYI and this new one I did specifically on that technique - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b_Fb3IUgrl0.html
Nice!! Best bet is to keep it simple and get all the info first then get creative. I have a lot more BTS content on the channel if you want to check it out! Like this one for example on a simple workflow for RE videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TwWImlPQ-w0.htmlsi=hYlHMY3rRpQ6ss_b
In order to use them legally for client work you need to have permission/copyright to do that so by having a subscription on some of these sites, you get permission to use it for creative work. Things have changed a lot though so on social media you can use popular songs like on TikTok or reels and stuff like that so it just depends on what works for you and your client.
Hey! I really like DJI's gimbals for phone or normal cameras. But for phones most of them are generally going to perform about the same. This one is the DJI OM5 (over a year old but still works great and does all the normal things you'd need).
Thanks Taylor. Great stuff! Question for you please: do you slow down the footage in a separate app before adding it the 24 fps timeline, or do you just slow down each clip in the timeline as required?
Hey! Great question. For this one I just put it all on the timeline in the order I wanted, selected everything and changed the speed to 80% then cut + moved footage around (and added speed ramps) to make it fit to the music and flow better.
Hey! I have been using Final Cut for a while now since it's a one time fee that I already paid, but Premiere Pro or Davinci Resolve are great too. I did a full editing breakdown for this one here if you want to check it out - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ilf_Tat8Yw.htmlsi=GOqoLGCuKXWawl6c
Thank you for all your tutorials.. they are great. I got 2 months free of Epidemic Sound. I followed the steps to get the music ( air drop) to my phone. I use lightcut to edit. I cannot get the music into lightcut. Any tips or advice? Thank you
Thanks!! I haven't used Lightcut but it looks like (from their app main page) you can click add music and it will redirect you to finding it. So if you have music on your phone maybe you're able to find it in your files there? Navigating to "files" on phones is always a little weird and takes me a minute to actually find them so maybe it's like that too. Also in case you didn't know, Epidemic has a mobile app that you can use that might help speed up / simplify your workflow :)
Hey! Here's the full editing breakdown if you want to see it but generally 1-1:30 is a good video length these days. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ilf_Tat8Yw.html
Hey! Here’s the full editing breakdown if you want to check it out :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ilf_Tat8Yw.htmlsi=FHQ-LZLAvrq3HiS_ It’s in Final Cut Pro. But Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve are great for editing as well.
I'm wanting to start integrating more video & really know nothing at this point. What is a good software to use for a beginner that's easy to use for editing the video & making it "flow" properly?
Davinci Resolve because it’s free ! And has the best color grading software for when you get into that. Otherwise premiere pro and Final Cut are also pretty simple to start with just cutting clips and editing to music.
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo when I type those in within the apple app store they don't come up, just brings up other recommendations. Also what about gelling the video software with the epidemic sound program you mentioned?
I think they’re all just desktop or iPad compatible. Sorry! VLC is a pretty good iPhone editing option that’s free. I did an editing tutorial with it here if you want to check it out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lXPr13csdlQ.html Also Premiere Rush by Adobe is a bit better
You can do that with the DJI app connected to the gimbal so you can use the button to record where your thumb already is. But for this one I just used the iPhone camera app and use the phone screen to touch the record button. Either way works good
Nicely done! I just got the iPhone 12 pro with the DJI OM4 gimbal, primarily for CubiCasa and walk throughs, but after seeing this, I might leave my pro gear at home and start shooting with the iPhone now. Certainly would help workflow on those multi shoot days!
Hey! If you use an app called VN editor you can do it pretty easily. I edit in Final Cut Pro and have a tutorial showing the whole edit for this one a couple videos after this (holding iPhone on thumbnail image)
Subscribed. As a realtor with a videography background, this is perfect! Just wish I knew what gimbal mode you used. Also, have you changed any iPhone settings. Like HDR or anything?
Hey Taylor. I know for the purpose of this video you were using the stock video app. But what do you use on location? Mimo? Filmic Pro. Protake? There are so many apps on offer.......
I just do iPhone shots with the camera app since it’s easy and that’s part of the benefit of using it for me. But I’ve used Filmic pro in the past (that’s how I started doing videography) and it’s pretty great! Whatever interface you like and works best for what you’re making / how you’re comfortable making it is what I’d go for.
Great video and advice! Thanks! Should I walk at a normal pace (not slow) if I’m going to slow everything down later? I tend to walk too slow then it’s waaay too slow at 80% 🤦🏻♂️
Yeah! Just try several speeds (maybe say what speed it is for your reference on each shot) and see what works for you! A lot of the time it’s easier to get a smoother movement if you’re moving faster too so that’s a bonus!
I would really like to do this. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I bought an Osmo Mobile 3 Combo gimble a long time ago and it's still in the box, never opened or used. Is this sufficient to try what you are doing? Would I be better off upgrading on the gimbal? Is there a basic cheap editing software I can use? I would prefer to use my desktop which is pretty strong. Thank you
Yeah! Gimbal should be fine as long as it can support your larger phone. Id check out Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve. They have a great free version that can do a lot!
Loved watching your video, I can never get this quality from my smartphone so end up using my D780. Incidentally did you notice your camera on the tripod through the window on one of your external shots?🙂
Love this so much!! Thank you for sharing. I'm getting back into photo/video work and doing a test session for interior design / real estate this week and was like "can I use my gimbal and iphone for the walkthrough video? Will they think I'm unprofessional?" but seeing this def gave me the confidence! I also have a gimbal for my fuji.
